Maybe. I am not saying it is Gears, just that it may have the same impact.
Gears hit around the time the PS3 launched as I recall. This of course is a different situation where both consoles were released around the same time.
So we have a different situation. MS got straight up Bioshock, Oblivion, COD2 as exclusives for awhile just as a matter of existing sooner.
Neither console has the straight up advantage of simply getting 3rd party exclusives because of timing of release. This is new. PS4 is getting 3rd party advantage by being a more powerful machine. Games just play and look better on it thus far. The MS advantage is exclusives , and that is arguable. But I do not see Infamous suddenly becoming super compelling unless it is simply an awesome game that cannot be ignored. And Sony is not putting anything close to the marketing for Infamous, which is middling when it comes to sales historically as MS is putting behind Titanfall.
Not that it matters which game is better or gets the most press. But Titanfall has the benefit of the complete backing of MS and EA, and Infamous, as far as the marketing I have seen, has been presented as another game in the PS4 library. Again, we will see. One game IMO has been well marketed as an event, and the other despite potential quality, has Ben marketed as a part of a library of games along with third party games that appear on both systems.
