PC Bros: This GPU generation is a massive FLOP!

This is also valid for AMD.

Gaming is 7.4% and trending to shrink. They have consoles, imagine that.

Everything is datacenters now.

Sounds more like a thread to hate on amd just because Nvidia screwed up so badly.

I doubt I'll get 9070 since I have a 7900 xt. But for the price if you need a new gpu it's defiantly the one to get.

OP you already have a 4070 I don't know what you expected... Immediately buying the next series of card after getting one was always a stupid move. Only upgrade in two to four generations later.

Yep. I'm on a 3080 and I'm not really excited about upgrading to anything right now.

The 5080 seems disappointing, but it is about double my current performance. That would be fine for $800. No way I'm paying $1,600 for that though.

The 5090 seems like one of those bad decisions that would be fun to make. But I have no interest in a part that might burn up due to poor electrical design...

9070XT is just not enough of a bump to justify it at all. Maybe next gen if they do a higher tier card.

I upgraded my 3080 to a 7900XT. Not a huge jump frame wise but the VRAM upgrade noticeably helped at 4K

My 1080 lasted 6-7 years. Maybe just wait out the generation. But for me, I would like to go 5070TI or 5080.

I also upgraded to a 3070 for $100 which could get me by. But honestly, I’ll be repurposing my old pc into a mini pc that will be my steam machine for the living room.

That feels a bit overdramatic IMO. You shouldn't be getting a new GPU every year. For those that have a dated GPU, I feel it's safer to go AMD for a lot of reasons. But for many of us with decent cards, there's no reason to replace what you currently have, at least not right now. Of course that's subjective though. Hell, if you're riding with a decent/above decent card, and you still want the newest to replace it, god speed, lol. I personally feel like if you have a 4000 series or 7900 series, you shouldn't jump to replace them just yet.

I went from 3080 to 7900 XTX, I traded in via Newegg (the trade-in value honestly wasn't bad), and I paid a difference of about $250-$300 at the time? So I'm good for awhile. I think this year made it clear that waiting is the right thing to do, unless you're really hurting to get something more recent/up to date.

I felt the same way until today I got an email from Nvidia saying I had priority access to purchase a founders edition 5090 directly from them today. The wait is finally over.

Well, supply and prices are bad, and the lower ties cards seems to be only marginally better than the 40-series versions, but my experience with the 5090 have been nothing but awesome.
It's a a great GPU for sure.

For those looking for a card in a lower tier than the 5090, it's probably only worth it if you're coming from the 30-series or below, which I guess most folks who's in a hurry to upgrade does.
But in that case, the new Radeon cards is probably worth considering too.

This feels like nothing to see here generation. Prices are horrible though so wondering what happens next when 6xxx gen hits for decent performance uplift.
Some years ago you could basically build some 2-3 full on decent mid PC from current 5070-5070Ti prices... WTF is that?!

Feel like pc gaming is becoming more niche every year with huge price increases and and poor performing games, strange thing is console gaming don’t seem to be benefiting at all, it just seems as gamers leave, new gamers are not replacing them. They seem content on playing fortnight and fifa.

that is also dated due to lack of RT performance and bad upscaling. You can't win! :messenger_face_screaming:
Fake frames and shiny water puddles that kill frames per second that you cannot notice unless you pause and zoom in 500%

Play the ACTUAL game native at 1440/4k depending on title and forget the hype bs spin marketing talk.

Quick sucking Jensen’s dick the NPCs in here saying “it’s all about AI now” got their talking points from their Lord and Savior Jensen

I said upscaling not multi flame generation

and either way the shiny water puddles are only optional for so long my guy... We're already seeing it with games like Indiana Jones, Outlaws and MGS Delta requiring RT capable GPUs. It's only a matter of time before it becomes enforced on a game you want to play.

Every time I go into a PC thread to read about PC's there's people who don't like PC gaming telling everyone how PC gaming isn't for everyone and how according to the Steam survey most PC's only make toast.
I need to make liberal use of the ignore I think.

At 4K, that would make sense. I'm on a 32" 165hz QHD monitor so I can run pretty much anything above 60 with nice image quality.

I'm not really interested in upgrading to 4K for more resolution, but OLED makes me drool. I just haven't seen a model that has pushed me over the edge yet. I'm waiting for a 40" curved model. That adjustable curve LG they showed off at CES looked amazing.

Ah yeah. It’s an HTPC, I play on a 77” Bravia 8 OLED and the 7900 XT handles 4K/120 on it nicely

Nvida:
-Lied about MSRP (even from their first parties you cannot get any 50xx series at MSRP)
-The bullshit 5070 can outperform the 4090 lie
-The pathetic launch stock
-Missing Rops on some 50 series cards
Nvidia just took a Giant shit in consumers faces. The sad thing is that some of the loyalist will gladly Toss that Salad.

AMD:
-The Price is ok but not going to convince many to switch. That is only if they can be had at MSRP. If it's another Nvidia situation the cards are another mediocre AMD Showing
-Performance overall even on the XT is not that great: I was itching to upgrade my dated 4070 but Most games in benchmarks by digital foundry and what not, there is less than 10 frames difference between my old 4070 and the newer 9070 xt
-FSR 4 is an improvement but still does not hold up to DLSS. Also FSR 4 especially at launch and for the near future will be a lot less supported
- I just don't see a reason to upgrade if your coming from a high end AMD last generation card or even a middle tier 40xx series cards. AMD has to do something dramatic to convince the masses to make the switch and the price to performance is just not good enough. It's good price to performance but not great.

Overall this Generations of GPU's:

book mot peterborough
just watched a few hours worth of reviews for the 7700XT 7800XT and 4060, 4060ti and 4070 and it was sad to see how they compare to their previous gen counter parts. In a lot of the cases the cards have actually regressed - what actually caused this? Gamers Nexus 7800XT benchmarks stated that on average the 6800XT is a better card, even though its cheaper - how can that be possible?

I feel like on Mvidias side it's all a massive flop. AMD is about to release their most exciting product in donkeys years.

What we need to hope for is that enough people buy AMD to drive nvidia to rethink their stack/pricing.

I highly recommend anyone looking for a GPU under $800 buys the 9070 XT. Even if you can afford the 5070ti. I’m buying one myself for my Wife’s PC. I’m certainly sick and tired of supporting Nvidia.

Only good generation from a performance to price ratio was the 1000 series and before with the 1000 series being the best by far where a decent amount of people still uses 1060s to 1080s even today.

I still remember my first gtx card which was the gtx 260 being able to play even something like RE6 without too much lag or problem and the GTX 1070 which I'm still using now gave me almost a decade and will probably reach that amount because even though there's good games today still but none are interesting enough to make me wanna spend that much a new PC which are overpriced. Modded Fallout and Elder Scrolls are all I need. GTA VI would probably be the first game in a long long time that would motivate me to spend the money. Especially if Elder Scrolls VI and Witcher 4 are also coming out afterwards.

Some pc gamers just enjoy tinkering and upgrading more than actual gaming. For those types, this gen sucks.

For everyone else who realizes games can still be incredibly fun on “only” medium settings at 60 fps, it’s not that bad

This is why i laugh at people who want Xbox to quir console market, it's going to be just as worst as this shit if Xbox leaves and PlayStation gets the monopoly of the console market
The market is split between PS and Nintendo and will be more healthy without Xbox.

Also, at this point, it's almost like Xbox doesn't even exist anymore anyway (hardware).

It feels like AMD almost operates like controlled opposition lol
Given that gamers treat AMD as the "Nvidia discount service" is that surprising?

If you have a 4070, how about you shut the fuck up and wait a generation. 90% of PC gamers would be more than happy to upgrade to that level of performance, forget about more.

So? Why should anyone do that anyway? Why not wait 5 years like a sane person?
Consoles only get updated every 7 years for a reason.

You gabe-obsessed, balding, nerdy creatures should learn to be patient.
