Pokemon TCG Pocket just dropped

Live is glitchy.
Yeah I have a massive stack of codes for Online/Live that I never used (not even sure if those still work?) but every time we tried to play it, the absolute wreck of its interface, crashes, etc made it a waste of time.

It's sad, because I'd happily play that as well for a beefier experience. But they need to fire every developer on it and remake it with the fast, clean interface of the new Pocket app.

I've been on a decent luck streak. Yesterday, I pulled 2x Mewtwo ex, holo Gardevoir (first time), Lapras ex, Articuno ex (first time), and just now I got a 2nd Articuno ex. I'm still missing a bunch of the trainer cards to go all out meta decks.
I will try some versus games (for the event) tonight when I get home from work, but I'm kind of expecting to get destroyed by optimized meta decks.

My problems occur during matches and not when redeeming codes. Have you tried the PC (Windows or Mac) versions?

Anyone playing it?

Best card I got out of like 20 packs in terms of rarity was a Wigglytuff EX. I also got an awesome looking foil Charmander. Some of these card's artwork is abhorrent though.

I could download it in germany (Play Store)

Been playing some matches. Never played the original game but what's here seems fun enough, although I'm not sure about the strategic possibilities since so far in my experience the person with the better cards will win 90% of the time.

In any case, I'm a total noob so I hope I'm mistaken and the game has more depth than it looks. I'll keep playing the game and see how it's later on.

Oh and here's my fren code: 1533-2731-0157-1939

Feel free to add me. I won’t be doing too much battling, just adding people to hopefully trade with.

It's been a little while fwiw, but we tried the PC version; I have a high end Mac for work but I don't generally let my son play on that.

There was also a version we tried on iPad and it was a total wreck with crashes. Maybe I'll try again. Do the old voucher code cards from packs (some of ours are a decade old) still work?

How the hell do you deal with Pikachu EX decks? Once they get pokemon on the bench its basically over. Some of these cards need to require more energy to retreat, especially ex cards. Tried to use Sabrina to put Pikachu on the bench just for them to bring him back immediately with X speed. Zapdos EX should require 2 energy to retreat

No idea. Both the Pikachu and Mewtwo decks seem to be very overpowered compared to anything else.

If you can’t beat them, join them.

I've noticed how ppl make it sound like it's the most common thing to have (multiple) optimized meta ex decks available, while that's only doable if you're extremely lucky and or have spent a good amount of money. Half-assed meta (ex) decks just won't cut it.

I found a decent and affordable strategy for versus (event): go for a fully optimized low tier (non ex) deck from any of the Pokémon TCG Pocket resource sites that counters the meta types. Maybe spend some pack points on low cost (trainer) cards to complete it. There's a really good one in particular that counters Mewtwo/psychic. I've been able to beat some of the common meta ex decks this way.

Really wish you could at least pick the energy you want for each turn, or flip a coin for the one you want, or something…

Every deck I’ve tried with around 30/70 ratios have just been a disaster because of the randomization.

I’m definitely sticking to single-energy decks.

They don't outright beat it every time, but I find Venasaur (w/ Exeggutor) & Maraowak (w/ Primape) to be good matchups against Pikachu.

Leaf - Exeggutor is a high HP shield early, and hits hard. If you can draw an Erika and can build a Venasaur in time, you have enough health sustain to beat and outdamage Pikachu.
Fighting - Yeah the EX is a coinflip, but it can hit hard and quickly, same with Primeape if you use the new Mankey, you can end it if they brick early hands. Type advantage.

If this ever happens, then there will be a reason to build and run multi-type decks like the normal format. RIght now, particularly with how weakness is calculated and theres no resistance from memory, they want it to be just a simple 1-type game.

The "weaker" cards seem to be more useful, since you can do damage much sooner rather than waiting for 4 energies to accumulate. I really expected some of these cards to be stronger considering how they were in Gen 1 but I regularly get my ass kicked by weaker decks who attack on every turn while I need to evolve my Pokémon 3 times and wait to gather a bunch of energies. I think I'm over the novelty of this game, I'm just gonna collect the two free booster packs every day and grow my collection without any battles.

I think an Arcanine needs two energy and will 120 hit and kill 90% of the cards. You need the bulky health of the EX

Arcanine or Arcanine ex (if such a thing exists)?

Lickitung is pretty good as well

Edit: just reread your post, you meant Arcanine EX. I've been opening MewTwo packs almost exclusively so I don't have Arcanine ex, but hopefully I can get one on a Wonder Pick

Yeah definitely seems like that’s what they’re going for. Needs to be way more consistent. It’s just not viable at all currently.

From playing a abit of Traditional Format and now this, this what I think makes it feel inconsistent:

- 2 card limit doesn't feel right, feels off that a Basic Pokemon and EX are both equally capped.
- The game needs a new Poke Ball, but instead of randomly drawing a Basic, you draw a Stage 1 or Stage 2.
- We could just wait for the new set, all types should benefit and the Meta Decks should become dilluted by nature of there just being more options.

Some dude played 2 Misty cards, got tails first on both and man I'm still laughing. :lollipop_content:

When I migrated my account from Online to Live last year I couldn't complete a battle for a few months but I still managed to redeem some codes I got from Reddit. You couldn't migrate over cards from HeartGold/SoulSilver expansion so I don't think really old codes would work. I am unsure if codes ever expire (for eligible stuff). You could still try.

Having a lot of fun with the multi-player event that's going on, my Pikachu EX deck is making me win lots of matches but also losing many as well. Like 50-50 I'd say. Wish I had better cards, some people have really good decks out there.

I just saw some of your cards and I want your Gyarados.

Do Want Give It To Me GIF
And I don't even have a Magikarp lmao.

It's just a very cool looking card. Haven't played much of the pvp event yet. Kinda scared to. I like making decks and doing the the Lampras EX solo battles on auto.

Nothing to be scared about fren, some of the solo battles sure feel easier than the last Lapras fight against the Lapras EX + Starmie EX. Seriously, the later one seems super broken to me, 90 damage with just 2 energies is way too much. :goog_relieved:

The Auto battle AI can do some really dumb shit sometimes, like giving your energies to non-active pokemon when one more energy on your active pokemon could win the match, or always making MewTwo use Psydrive for 150 damage when the opponent has 50 or less health, etc

Don't really understand why they couldn't integrate these graphics into the real tcg client. Now we have a mobile game with good graphics/collecting but battles suck. Then the TCG client does battling well but sucks at everything else. Thus none of the problems with the digital tcg format are solved.

Kind of sucks that Icon Missions are single card specific.

I’ve got 5 Charizards (which is the criteria), 3 EX and 2 regular. But only the regular ones count towards the reward..

So is your Mewtwo one!

I love the art work on these cards, they’re fantastic.
Yeah, but I mean your card is very powerful in battle as well. I already had two other MewTwo ex cards (the less rare ones) with the exact same stats so this new one isn't going to help me win any battles. But the damage and HP numbers on your card are pretty impressive!

Is anyone running multiple instances of this game on different devices? I have a spare iPhone and an iPad, I think I'll use them to open extra packs until trading gets implemented

Finally managed to reach the 45 victories goal and got a badge out of it. Last encounters were hard, fought against some level 25+ whales but managed to win against a few of them!

My current setup is Lilligants feeding my Parasects, seems to be working more or less well so far.

After a bit of save scumming on my second phone, I was able to pull a pack with two gold crown rarity Charizard Exs and one 3 gold star Charizard Ex, along with two other three gold star cards:

All from one pack. This is the guide

I wish I'd known this when I first started!

Having opened several packs in the Charizard, Mewtwo, and Pikachu boosters, all I can say is Pikachu packs are straight garbage. Only thing I'm ripping is farts.

Have you tried re-rolling? The game gives you a shit ton of booster packs when you first start playing, which eventually slows to a trickle after you complete the beginner objectives. Re-rolling involves deleting your save file and restarting the game and opening those 15-20 packs the game throws at you to find 'God Packs' i.e. packs with 5 rare cards, like this:
