Dragon's Dogma - PS5 Pro - finally achieving 60 FPS in the city areas...

... NPCs now "pop in" right next to the player avatar instead of 10 feet in front of them!!!

Seriously though, this game, good as it might be, is very poorly optimised on all systems. The way NPCs fade in close to the player is just embarrassing for a 2024 title. The RE Engine just is not a good fit for open-world games (which is also true of the recent Monster Hunter Wilds beta test that uses this same engine).

So, how about PS Portal and PS5 Pro?

I can check it out tomorrow, but any word on that yet?

Talking about the Hz mismatch stutter ?

Yeah, don't think it's ever going to get fixed - until a 2nd portal revision that is (featuring a higher than 60Hz screen) 😉

Talking more about how games look now.

Don't care about the hz mismatch stutter, but I guess it sucks for those that find it a hindrance.

I've gone back and forth on getting a PS5 Pro. First I said no way, then I said yeah sure why not, then I said eh I don't think so. Maybe these reviews will help me sort it out. Or maybe they won't. I'll make sure to let everyone know what my final decision is, because I know it's important to you.

Speaking of that, the full body massage/happy ending offer I made a couple month ago for your 2nd ps5 pro is still on the table.

Honestly when I was seeing it side by side at my buddies house I personally could say yeah that looks much better

But now having played with mine at home VERY little so far but on a 32" 4k OLED monitor its like mehhh, is this the pro or the regular PS5.

Never seen a Dynamic Resolution counter before. DF should start doing that.

This is pretty much what I expected, and why I have no interest in the Pro. At least on PC I can spend the money to get enough horsepower, and tune the details of the game to ensure a smooth frame rate. All that money for a Pro console and the Performance mode still has issues. :messenger_confused:

Damn, what games did you try so far?

The differences will vary from game to game I guess, FF7 rebirth looked alright from what i saw. Future first party releases should also take advantage of it hopefully.

I mean looks like it does what it’s supposed to do. Cleans up some games with a bit better clarity and framerates in some cases. Some games won’t be saved, but that’s console gaming life. The good news in that hopeful this opens the door to more variable refresh rates and uncapped options moving forward. It’s not going to give you a better experience most of the time versus a top of the line PC in a lot of cases. But that’s fine, that should have never been an expectation for a $700 console be a $3000 desktop.

Pro serves as a good stopgap in the console space for this platform to ride out this generation with a little bit more juice than the launch system. Is it worth $700? There isn’t a right or wrong answer to that. It’s all situational to the individual.

Parris is reviewing his new Xbox.

The problem with Parris' review is that he doesn't like mid gen refreshes and this isn't a PS6.

Everyone knew what it is was going into it. Some games will deliver better visuals but the point is fidelity at 60 and the idea that mid gen isn't needed and that the base unit should carry the performance for 8 years is a pipe dream. We're already seeing games that aren't running at 60 fps on the base units without dropping to 1080p and some still struggling even with that.

He admits its a bargain compared to PC but calls it a red line for console costs. We'll see, it might be, but I know PS5 Pro owners are going to be playing every new game at or around 60 fps while base system owners are struggling with jank.

He has some good points.. but the slight bias , which he did mentioned concerning mid gen somewhat shows.
His biggest point is does "little Timmy" really need this, definitely no.. it's true this mid gen is mainly for the enthusiast or that last few who did not get a PS5 at the beginning and are willing to pay extra.

Honestly find the views weird.

Both for it and against it.

You don’t have to get the Pro. It is another option which is great.

No different to Mobile Phones or even GPUs.

Honestly some of the people leaving negative comments only tells me they want it but can’t afford it.
I think it is just in general reaction to price/sticker shock. A nice improvement, but this far into precious gens everyone was used to OG model dropping in price and Pro unit coming mid-cycle around launch price. If the PS5 Slim every gets down to let's say $400 and this gets to $550 or $600, perhaps more people will warm up to it. Just my observation.
