PS5 Pro reviews

Some nice improvements, but still can't come close to a good PC in either Quality or Performance mode:

He has some good points.. but the slight bias , which he did mentioned concerning mid gen somewhat shows.
His biggest point is does "little Timmy" really need this, definitely no.. it's true this mid gen is mainly for the enthusiast or that last few who did not get a PS5 at the beginning and are willing to pay extra.

I mean half of Sony's MAUs are on PS4 still. Little Timmy is still playing Fornite on PS4. It's not for everyone, nor is it marketed for everyone, so I don't know why it is reviewed as if it were a mass market successor to PS5. It's a weird commentary.

That is actually a great idea. But in an age of TAA and upscalers, I doubt an automated program can do that in an accurate way.
For example, DF usually does their counting of pixels, during camera transitions, on the first frame, while the TAA or Temporal upscalers still haven't kicked in.
Will work in the same way

Because it's private and I can still watch it, I'll post a couple screens.

Game boost feature isn't enough to push CPU bound games to a locked 60, they're still CPU bound (no surprise here...). However games like Cyberpunk may be pushed into VRR range.

PS5 also performs worse in GPU bound scenarios than an RX6800, at least in their example.

4k120 output mode is still limited to 4:2:2, why? No one knows. There should be enough bandwidth for full RGB as the console can output 8K.

Seems meh and my eyes are crap, should probably cancel the preorder but I’m not sure it’s possible.

Are there any noise level comparisons?

To me it looks worse. Artifacts and aliasing are more visible.
Yeah, i would take a 40hz locked mode instead of the sharpening if i had to chose a minor improvement.

I tried to replay the game recently and i just can't, if feel bad even for 30 fps standard on an oled tv.

Metaphor runs at a practically locked 60 now, Final Fantasy 16 has issues.

PS4 image quality enhancement seems to be a filter, adds anti aliasing but doesn't do anything for temporal aliasing. It apparently doesn't work when a game outputs at above 1080p. He tested with Overwatch which outputs at 4k, but is a 1080p game and it didn't do anything for it.

It greatly improves HUD elements/text.

He says it can be great, but nothing game changing. He says to not buy a PS5 Pro for this feature (duh).

I believe this Uncharted comparison looks best. You can clearly see the added anti-aliasing on the gun (but there is still a lot of shimmering in motion).

I haven't watched the PSSR segment because there is no need to, we've already seen enough about it to know it's a massive upgrade over FSR and comparable with DLSS.
Because the HDMI port bandwidth is capped at 32GB rather than the usual 40 or 48GB.
I was only listening to it in the background during that segment, should've paid more attention. Yeah, they guess that it is the same HDMI controller but with an added feature to make 8K output possible. It's a weird decision to make if that turns out to be the case.

Congratulations to everyone who is looking forward to getting one, it's not for me as I don't see the value in it but for those that do, hope you enjoy the feel of the new console we usually get once every 7, 8 years.
It's hardly the same thing.
With a new console you have a batch of new nextgen games to try that are gonna look way, way better than the past gen, a light improvement in res and framerate is not like going from horizon 1 to horizon 2.

This is in the same tier as changing a gpu on pc or even lower because the jump i have when i change gpu is usually higher tham what you get with pro in most of the cases (at least going from a 2070s to a 4080 that was my last gpu change).

I've always been puzzled as to why that is. Is it do with compatibility with Sony's own TVs or something? Almost every other TV supports 40-48 Gbps, I believe.

Or is this just Sony trying to save a few pennies?

I've not seen a single video yet and it seems some air has been let out of everyone's balloon.
What seems to be the thing causing most of the air leaks?

Seeing from all the reviews that games have good improvement, for PSSR ML still at infancy stage version 1.0, this is already a good result. Can't wait for a year when PSSR ML matures more especially once GTA6 and other 2025 games comes out.

So many were expecting a miracle (“image quality better than DLSS!” “Will outperform high-end PCs!”)

In reality it’s exactly what you’d expect. A nice boost for enthusiasts and a good relative value at $700, but the average consumer probably won’t care.

Even the normal ps5 has it, it downsamples everything to 1080p you never play at native 1080
Then Id like to see a review of how the Pro plays on 1080p panels. Since thats what a majority still are using. Side by side shots and performance of games running on PS5 vs Pro on a 1080p screen.

I thought this was always what it was going to be. Even the videos we saw weren't some sort of miracle. Quality mode at 60FPS is all I expected and it seems that's mostly what we are getting.

Why do you say the majority are playing at 1080p?

Not really seeing this product.

I guess maybe if you just getting a PS5 for the first time but if one has one already, not really seeing the point in upgrading.
