Got me to finally grab the Christmas stuff in Stellar Blade. I grabbed Forspoken for dirt cheap. I’ll give it a go at some point. I’ve been hearing good things from people that played the actual start of the game and not that demo.

100% real, other sources have confirmed this too.
You need to be connected for the first time to authenticate the external drive to a PS5.
If that person bought a PS5 Pro and a disc drive during the downtime, he wouldn't be able to use it until it reconnected to the internet.

So it would only be a problem if he unboxed the drive today and tried to pair it with a console TODAY when PSN was down.

Not quite. It does mean you cannot enjoy your physical library on the Pro unless you have Internet. I had to live last week without home Internet, due to a failure of my Internet provider and also yesterday/today PSN down, so basically havent been able to play GT7 during 8 days due lack of conection...Despite i only play offline modes, so....

That's not true. The disc is a one time activation. You can play games on disc without internet after activation unless the game itself requires internet.

Yes, but if it comes a situation of PSN down or what just happened to me, which can be very common (issues with Internet conection) and turns out that the issue was just at the time when someone decided to spent +$800 on a Pro + Drive, and all that for NOT having to be able to play because a mandatory Internet conection, even if its one time, can be very annoying.

PSN went down for less than 24 hours for the first time in years. But, imagine, IF you bought a specific version and the external disc drive during that exact window? In that, rare, very specific scenario, you would have to wait a few hours before everything would be up running.
I'd just boycott Sony forever, over just the trauma that potential scenario has caused.
