Raise the flame shield: Your "controversial" gaming opinion.

The only people that complain about the Switch are people who don't own one.
Nice way to invalidate those that disagree in a self serving way. The people who would bother to hunt down a Switch would be the diehards who think a compromised handheld console combo is the bee's knees.

I think it's a flawed but good enough product like most of Nintendo's last rounds of hardware, but the games matter more and that's what Nintendo does best.

Overwatch is terrible as a competitive game. It's not fun to play seriously and it's even less fun to watch. I'm not sure if this controversial or not.

In my opinion Dark Souls 2 and 3 are simply just cash grab after thoughts, the ''cycles'' that's introduced in DS2 feels completely forced and stupid, it basically tells us that the ending of Dark Souls doesn't mean any shit.

You can tell from the way Dark Souls's universe is set up and the way it's ended, there's no way Miyazaki wanted a sequel to Dark Souls in the first place.
Anyone who played the game knows, Dark Souls itself does not want a direct sequel at all, everything is either explained, answered, unanswered, or killed. There's absolutely nothing left to ''continue''. (unless you restart another new universe and called it ''the next cycle'' like DS2...smh.)

DS2 of course, it's a bastard project made by a different creator, it might be a fun game, but the lore and story is a complete mess. It's nothing more than a fan fiction.

Dark Souls 3 was supposed to be a redemption after DS2's huge disappointment in Japan, but Miyazaki just can't bring himself to put all his effort into it.
The result is a bunch of reused concepts such as the onion bro NPC, Anor Londo and the firelinking plot.
Miyazaki seems to be stuck in the Bloodborne art direction as well, it's so obvious that he doesn't even want to make a Dark Souls 3, but the contract is already signed, he had no choice.

So here it is, my controversial opinion:

There's only one true Dark Souls, and that is Dark Souls (2011).
The rest are just cash grab business decision and a bunch of accidents, the sequels are merely forced, meaningless continuities.

The four lords were killed, the fire has either been linked or faded, and the lord of the sunlight and cinder, Gwyn, is no more. That's it. There's no cycle after that. It has ended, and it ended perfectly. Praise the Sun.

The port begging for Switch is out of control. It absolutely wasn't this bad back when the PS4 and Xbox One released.

Making those threads isn't going to push publishers into porting those games to Switch, so I don't see the point either. I'm not even against everything being ported to it. I hope it happens, but just stop begging. It's weird.

Completely agree.

It is absolutely the most rampant portbegging I have ever seen from any fanbase.

No one complains about the Switch, just the Switch threads.

Considering the hostility even complaining about Switch threads draws from Nintendogaf, no one would dare say anything critical about the console itself for fear of their lives I'd imagine.

This thread is so long and I can't be bothered to see if I've posted in it before, so here are some probably-not-so-uncommon "controversial" opinions:

- Other M, Final Fantasy XIII, and Resident Evil 6 are all decent games. None of them are the worst in their series.

- Handheld gaming is inherently more appealing than TV gaming.

- Awakening and Fates > Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn

- It's OK to not use a mic in competitive matches.

- I'm looking forward to Spider-Man PS4 more than Super Mario Odyssey.

I don't think this is true. You sometimes get some of the original creators sticking around. And even without them, it's not like a new team can't analyse what made the old games tick and play to their strengths.

In fact I'd argue that a new team with a fresh perspective can make a better product than a bunch of old developers who have lost their touch or just don't care about making that kind of game anymore.

Would you really trust today's Square Enix to make a sequel to Chrono Trigger/Cross? Because I see people asking for that to happen all the time on this forum. Every part of that company has moved on with their design philosophy and a sequel would not resemble anything of what made people love the original. Same goes for all their other SNES and PSX franchises.

Overwatch is difficult to play. Respawning so far away from the action is such a drag. Also I don't get the point of loot boxes for it. It's a fps you're hardly looking at your character or noticing other character

Yeah. Wanting to own and play on one console is strange... 😑

I agree with all of this, and it's why I hope there isn't a Bloodborne sequel too.

Mechanically Dark Souls 3 is brilliant, but the lore of Dark Souls was a huge part of what made the game special. With it being so mangled in 2 and 3, both games lacked the magic and were far less enjoyable for me.

I hope people and government agencies recognize that RNG MT as being a form of gambling sans any monetary return and apply the same rules and laws to it. Give the odds and address the addictive/compulsive problems it can cause in some users.

After SFV and T7, I think that fighting games (with obvious exceptions) should stop following the cinematic story trend. Waste of money and dev time that probably won't translate into better sales for classic series.

Use the resources for better time-sinking modes and QA

You could play a character with movement abilities to get back to the action quicker, also never play Battlefield then lol

Yeah for single player I'd much prefer they put work into quest modes and similar. Stuff like Quest mode in Virtua Fighter, Weapon Master in Soul Calibur or World Tour from Alpha 3. Cinematic story modes are just one and done and have way less replay value then the quest type modes.

Breath of the Wild is most overrated game this generation. Also, Twilight Princess is the best 3D Zelda game and simply one of the best games period. Twilight Princess gets so much unnecessary hatred from some Zelda fans, but yet people still put Ocarina of Time on some high pedestal even though Twilight Princess is a much better version of Ocarina of Time.

Over the years, I've started to appreciate negativity, the jaded, cynical view. So what if I miss a game that I potentially might enjoy? I've got too many games to play already. I want people and reviewers to advice me against purchasing games. I want to save my time and money. One bad purchase is worse than missing ten potentially good games.

- Handheld gaming is inherently more appealing than TV gaming.

I'd say only if you're more into gaming than any other entertainment or media. I much prefer listening to music or podcasts, reading my kindle or reading the newspapers to gaming on a handheld. I enjoy the specific place that gaming has, and that relates just as much to its physical space - on my laptop, or on TV - as it does where it fits in my life and interests. :)

- There are far more people who desire more lore in games than who value good lore in games

- Kratos is not starring in that new God of War. That's someone completely different who looks like him while trying to make a buck off of Dad Games trend for some reason.

While I like the story of witcher 3, the controls (on consoles at least) are ass and is my biggest grievance I have with the game, specially when looting and fighting.

Botw is not anywhere near a 97 and I can see it being looked at like GTA 4. The "story" is terrible, menu ui is horrible, fighting and weapons are just like a step down from something like mgs5. The good stuff is the climbing which is hampered by the stamina at the start of the game. It feels like two games taped together. A good climbing/exploring sim and baby's first open world game.

P5 looks and sounds great and thats the only nice thing i have to say about it

P4 ages very poorly and isnt nearly as good as it was the first time, probably just because i felt like i needed friends when i played it

P3 remains the best of the three by a lot

Resident Evil 4 is one of the most overrated game ever made....Combat , story characters are sub-par, and the last 1-2 chapters really go down hill in a dull action fest.

I really don't get the love Dying Light gets. Its just a zombie game with a crappy story and the combat was better in Dead Island with the analog combat and the ability to target body parts which they took out for some reason in Dying Light. Just really don't get the love unless its one of those plays better in co op games which would make more sense but that don't make the game good.

My Controversial opinion, Xenoblade Chronicles, I don't get it with you guys. It's interesting, fun in parts and I don't regret playing it, but "greatest JRPG" has me scratching my head.

Kingdom Hearts fans are hilarious to me, please make more threads about that series.

The only thing I'd complain about switch is the countless new Switch threads created each day, that could really just go in a single thread called "You have a Switch too?"

Thank you! People create 50 Switch threads to ask or say the exact 4 same things. It's self-serving/ help me validate my purchase in my mind bullshit.

All these "After Playing Zelda :BotW I can't get into Horizon(or other variations of disappointed with Horizon) makes me roll my eyes so hard, it not a knock against Zelda or its fans but if I had a Switch(which I am planning on getting) and Zelda I would be able to most likely get through the game without having Horizon: ZD on my mind.

I think there is no game the really makes you dissatisfied to stop playing another game; in the case of Zelda and Horizon you probably are having fatigue from playing two large open world game back to back, if your going into Horizon thinking it's going to be like Zelda then your expectations will not be met as though they're both open world the play completely different.

I'll go a step further. I don't understand any "let's specifically shit on this one game in particular with my subjective and overblown opinion" threads.

There is no greater discussion of the game industry, practices, or trends in these threads. No real insight on the game. It could (and should) be a negative opinion post in the game's OT. Instead, we get an entire thread that is quite literally one poster's hyperbolic opinion, poorly backed up, and boils down to "well this is just how I feel!" It really only serves to rile up fans and detractors of said game.

Final Fantasy 10 is the best mainline Final Fantasy game.

This guy gets it. FFX is the FF game I have put the most time into and it's not even close. I'd say it goes FFX >>> FFVII > FFVIII >>> FFV/VI/III/IV > FFXII > FFXIII for me.

I will go ahead and say for my contribution to this thread, that FFXII is a pretty shit game. It was like an unrefined version of XIII without the cool setting and with 0 likable characters. I put about 10-15 hours into it and never touched it again.

I dint like RDR much. Characters and world was great, but I found the gameplay very boring & dull. 5-10 mins of boring horse/cart ride at the start of almost every mission, followed by a generic shooting section, got bored of this template almost midway through the game.

Mechanically and aesthetically, PUBG is a mediocre game at best. It's actively bad for solo players. It has succeeded because it's a good vehicle for creating memorable moments that make for great stories.

After putting a few dozen hours into it I have little desire to play more of it myself, but I do enjoy watching squads stream it.

I recently watched a video of all the instant kills in the most recent version of Guilty Gear. Everything was so terrible, I can't believe this game is treated as a master piece of fighting game choreography, these finishing moves are hardly actual attacks and they're just silly weird cutscenes. Oh and the character designs, woof. I'll never get the appeal of ArcSys fighters.

I really disliked Half Life 2. For all the praise its level design gets, I got lost numerous times and had to consult a guide. The combat was not to my liking and I got really really dizzy playing the game. I don't know why it happens but it did and I can't play the game for more than 30 minutes at a time. It was one of the few times I was glad just to be over with the game and to this day I still don't understand the praise it gets outside its technical achievements (physics engine etc).

Which is really odd considering I loved Portal and didnt get any motion sickness from that.

People need to just accept that the Switch is a Nintendo device and, as such, is already underpowered as a console meaning it's not feasible to port to it and the because past efforts on Nintendo hardware were not rewarded are not going to invest in it. I feel it's very much people trying to justify the thing existing but, like past Nintendo hardware, Nintendo games will do that.

-Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is overrated as a classic Sonic game.
-Zelda Link to the Past is the most overrated Zelda title ever, Link Between Worlds is waaaay better!
