Rise of the Ronin debuts on PC with low number of players and many negative reviews

Available just a few hours ago on Steam, Rise of the Ronin hasn't had a very positive launch, as the game is struggling to reach the maximum peak of 11,000 players on Valve's platform.

To make matters worse, Rise of the Ronin is available on Steam with neutral reviews. Out of 556 reviews, 235 are positive and 321 are negative. Players complain that the game has serious performance problems.

The basic feeling at the start is: stutter, a lot of stutter. Game needs more polished before its ready KOEI

Will change to recommend if they fix the performance issue

Is it really that hard to not make bad PC port? Stuttering on a 4090 is just... no.

Nioh 2 ran pretty fine and the graphics aren't exactly that far behind from this game (I'd argue it looks better mostly because of the art direction). I'm getting seriously sick of PC ports these day struggling hard on even the finest machines. Combined with the fact that getting a beefy GPU is harder than ever these days, developers should really put some efforts into optimizing their PC ports, rather than... god knows what led to this monstrosity of a port.

If you insist on buy this awful port in its current state, my recommendation is to forget about going beyond 60 FPS. Capping the game to run at 60 should alleviate the stuttering issues. Also, turn off RT reflections too, it's simply not worth it. Frame generation doesn't seem to help much with my setup, though play with the settings yourself to see if it improve things for you or not.

Other than that, I'm liking the gameplay so far. If only they spend at least some efforts into making the PC port not total trash.

Dumbass Corporation. Instead of delaying the game and making sure the launch cycle is a positive one, they are just shoving this out the door.

How retarded are these suits?

With the news about poor performance and Xenoblade dropping next week, I'll wait for some patches and a discount.

A year later and still an unoptilized mess.

My condolences to those that bought it. Hope they learn the lesson, I did back when Nioh 2 came out.

Apparently the performance is a complete joke. Its unacceptable that companies keep releasing broken ports man

Its still dogshit on PS5 even on Pro so im not surprised. KOEI TECMO is so incompetent with their tech. It looks like an early ps4 game at best and performs like absolute shit

Yeah I think there is something seriously wrong with their Engine. Remember Strangers of Paradise? The performance was a joke and the graphics in that game are ps3 levels of bad

Well, it's Koei Tecmo. They're pretty hit and miss with some of their releases from a technical perspective, be them on PC or console.

Still, I do enjoy most of their releases, especially the ones from Team Ninja and Gust (have yet to play Rise of the Ronin though).

Man, I'm genuinely bummed because this game is legitimately great. I was really hoping it'd get a smooth launch for PC and I'd be able to read some impressions from new players. It's basically the same discussion as when it launched on PS5.

Diabolical of Sony to put Ghost of Sushi on sale as this launched. Sushi was charting above it when I looked last night. I did buy RoR and will try it tonight.

I skipped it on PS5 due to the frame rate issues. I'll continue to wait on this version to get performance updates before I buy.

Sounds like this is a "wait for DEEP sale" if you are interested, and as a bonus the patches should be out by then too.

When will these companies learn regarding pc.

Pc gamers don't want ports of exclusive games that are late. They want then day and date AND a good working port that isn't shit show.

Thats also pretty stupid yeah. But Ac Shadows looks very weak as well. Npc's standing around pretending to talk to eachother. Cities look empty. Its a boring generic game.

It's still a massive franchise that will sell millions. Lots of stupid moves here, at least game isn't 60/70$.

People on this board like to suck off japanese devs so much. Where are these plebs when PC games get released? They are so challeneged by PC. Why dont they just stick to nintendo and consoles?

JP devs are superior at art/writing/combat but terrible at tech. It's been that way for at least a generation or two now.

People that enjoy these Japanese games just need to accept how garbage their tech is

FromSoft, Capcom, Koei…largely crap engines.

Kojima was saved by Decima, amazing the dichotomy between them and the rest in Japan

I really don't understand these developers and publishers. They would sell so much better with a good port. The absence of common sense is outright puzzling.

For god's sake, hire a small outside porting studio if your devs are incompetent. You will cover the cost with higher sales.

Edit: I think the game itself is actually pretty good all in all. It's a shame that technical issues are going to kill sales.

I really like Ghost of T but I think Ronin is a "deeper" game with better open world and more in depth mechanics.

I do love presentation, design, story and combat in Tsushima better. That said Ronin is a great game if technical issues can be resolved.

The pc owners mindset is actually the biggest problem with pc gaming.
Some games have a value independent of its technology, and no masturbatory benchmark could attest to it.

I'm not paying fifty bucks for an unoptimized game. The problem isn't the user's "mindset", is some other people having no standards and the companies trying to take adventage of that.

Properly optimising PC games is a lost art. Only a select few can still do it.

No its just an unpleasant reminder that these days PC owners need to spend a fortune getting hardware strong enough to brute force through everything.

Its not magic. If a game is stressing a PS5, its going to tax a PC too unless its a decently high end rig, And even then the degree of uplift is very much dependent on exactly where the stress points are.

Sorry but you're just wrong no ifs and buts about it

You do you, but you cannot say that people who want to do different have no standard.
They don't have your standard but theirs and if it suits them good.

You can think people waste their time playing those types of games, but if you cannot understand how playing a janky japanese game can be really fun it is your loss, not theirs.

It´s disappointing to see these trash PC ports. Release the games patched and feature complete, otherwise don´t bother asking for money.

Janky is not a synonym for "runs like shit" you know.

And yeah sure, if people want to spend their money on shitty products then more power to them. I'll keep thinking they are dumb.
