You know, I don't think I've ever seen the cart version. That cover is friggen awesome.

Yeah, but as far as the actual game goes, there's not really any reason to own it if you have a Sega CD: the CD version is the same, but with an intro (the cart version has no intro at all, so there's no story in the game), CD audio, and more I think.

Yeah, I never owned the CD version but I rented it a few times back in the day. Always thought the audio was really good. But back then I thought it was a CD only game as I had never seen the cart version in any of the stores in my area.

What is the concensus in the X'Eye? A good Sega Cd alternative? Or is it better to search for a working 1st gen Sega CD? (or even the most expensive Sega CDX)

Wow... people are really gouging on them on eBay. I got mine for like $130 IIRC a few years ago. It's probably in my post history here in fact.

I suppose this stuff is becoming more scarce. Collectors will be harder pressed to part with old systems that are a little rare because getting one again will be costly.

It's why I own my Neo Geo AES still and have been reluctant to switch to a Big Red cabinet or a consolized MVS. The AES stuff just keeps on holding value or increasing. Seems silly to part with any of it now. My videogame collection may fund my retirement in 25 years!

I wish I still owned my AES stuff but I dumped it in 2004 in for a trade for a 6 slot MVS cabinet and a crap ton of games. I love my cabinet, but I'm ashamed to admit its not plugged in right now and is sitting in my garage (my wife only lets me keep one cabinet in the house at a time and my Galaga/Pac-Man 25th anniversary cabinet takes precedence lol).

Oh, no, you can go ahead and get your X'EYE. I already have a Model 1 Genesis hooked up to a Model 2 Sega CD; just need a MD DUO power cord at some point.

I still kinda want a model 1 sega CD.

power of positive thinking, tekno! i was just thinking that a month or two back, was trying to justify $100+ ebay prices (cheaper ones not having pic/details on how well they work etc...), found a craigslist posting for a model 1 gen + sega CD, 2 power sticks and 20 games between both systems for $50, also one of the only ones i got up early for & didn't even bother haggling

Because you said that I decided to check my craigslist again right now, and for once there is an actual listing instead of just a bunch of resellers trying to buy them. Model 1 genesis with a model 1 CD, and 5 games.

The five games are sports. The Genesis isn't the good version. It appears to come with only one power plug. $200. Nope.

Really. I'm just trying to find a model 2 CD with the extender and all the metal pieces for under $80. Whys it gotta be this hard?

Garage sale score:

Was out for three hours, about to call it a day, very last place I saw all that. Got it all for $29. Already had some of them, but not some of the cases, and most of them are absolutely brand new looking.

Back of the Night Trap book amused me as well:

I assume that's a guide to what camera you need to be on at what time?

^goddamn, yeah man nice haul! i gotta get with garage sales, haha
and yeah i love hauls like that cause you can tell people actually played the crap out of that game. i kinda hate getting carts of classics with a single 4 minute data on em...man now i wanna dig up the email of that lady who bought my sega collection 10 years back and see if i can repurcahse some of it, the notes alone would be amazing to see, heh

Yeah, I was pretty happy with it. It was city wide sale, so there were a ton of garage sales, hadn't seen shit all day. Wife was starting to whine that we'd seen every place and she was ready to be done, told her one more stop. Was giving her shit the rest of the day for wanting to give up right before I found all that.

I've decided I might as well go for a complete US Sega CD collection at this point. Haven't really looked into what is rare on the system, so that may change my mind. I know Snatcher is expensive, but I want that any way. We'll see.

Snatcher, Earthworm Jim SE, Shining Force CD, the Lunar games, Vay and Popful Mail should all set you back a pretty penny - Snatcher most of all, but the others aren't cheap, either.

Don't forget Keio Flying Squadron. That one will set you back a bunch.

I want most of those regardless of whether I go for complete collection or not. I also have a slight advantage in that I don't care if I get the original cases and manuals. If I do, they're just going to go in a box 'cause I'm printing out labels from the Cover Project and putting them in DVD cases anyway.

Which one of you is bidding against me on eBay? I know it's one of you, and I'm not going to mention exactly what it is. But I know it's someone on here -_-

I don't know if its been mentioned specifically, but the red cardboard box version of Night Trap is worth a decent bit more then the normal re-print, so that is an excellent haul.

Also, if ever anyone gets a disc-only version of Snatcher, i do have an extra case for it! (Just no manual). Just in case someone needs it.

Definitely going to keep an eye out for one. Are they region free?

Both games have manuals, but one of the plastic pieces that hold the manual, in the Clay Fighters case, is broken.

i literally just offloaded about 7 copies of Sonic 2 on an auction lot...if anyone answers yes ima feel bad. again i heavily debated cheap christmas gifts of sonic 2, sonic spinball, madden '94, nba jam & mrs. pac-man as retro bundles to friends, almost none of which have a genesis. still kinda wish i would've.

Went digging through my parents basement yesterday and brought back some stuff I am fond of...Didn't have room to cart it all back. Left the majority of the Genesis stuff there. Anything not in their boxes were preowned from Gamestop back in the day...I hate seeing loose Genesis carts. :(
