Well, out of all the games there, be happy one of the boxed ones is Musha, lol.

Yeah, but that one I knew was boxed...everything I bought new has remained that way. :)

I will probably have to part with MUSHA though...my favorite shooter...going to need some game collecting cash at some point.

I also brought a boxed Fire Shark and Rolling Thunder 2 back with me. I was thrilled to find my Nomad (Although the battery pack seems to be missing) and my old Nintendo Player's Guide as well.

Went digging through my parents basement yesterday and brought back some stuff I am fond of...Didn't have room to cart it all back. Left the majority of the Genesis stuff there. Anything not in their boxes were preowned from Gamestop back in the day...I hate seeing loose Genesis carts. :(

You don't wanna sell that PS2 Hint book do you?

:)

Damn, that reminds me that I lent a friend of a friend my Clay Fighter once. Never got it back :( It still bugs me to this day even though the game wasn't that great.

Same happened to me with Megaman X8...but on the other hand, he lent me Final Fantasy Tactics, so its all good I guess.

I've been burned too many times lending games and either never getting them back, or getting them back in poor condition.

I now have blanket rule of never lending games to ANYONE. I feel kinda like an ass, but the line had to be drawn.

It's the only way; don't let people make you feel bad. I learned my lesson lending DVDs and now no one gets to borrow anything. They are always welcome to come to my house to watch blu-rays on my system or play games if they treat the systems respectfully :) Having said that, no one gets to touch Neo Geo AES besides me :)

Picked up Might and Magic: Gates to another World for Genesis recently. (AKA Might and Magic 2 on PC)

I played this back when I was younger. Can't remember if I rented it or borrowed it from a friend or what, but I had forgotten how completely brutal it is. Back then, I always wondered why the auto-map was blank, so I mapped everything myself on graph paper. This time, upon booting it up, the first place I accidentally ran into was the cartographer's shop, who will take your money to teach you how to make a map. No wonder it never worked before. It's not even expensive to learn, just a byzantine step you have to take in order to do something.

You also have to hit the search button after every single fight in order to pick up loot.

I never finished it back then. I think I might have to power my way through it this time. it's still a pretty cool and playable game.

Got my Genesis and Saturn RGB cables from retro_console_accessories yesterday. I need to change some stuff in my retro setup in order to set the consoles in the right way, hopefully I will have the time before the weekend.

For awhile I was trying to complete the North American 32X library, but the novelty of collecting all the carts for a failed system has worn off. What's Spider-Man: Web of Fire going for these days, not counting eBay listings with ridiculous BIN prices?

How about ridiculous Amazon prices?

When did you order them? Her stuff still not listed on ebay for me. I can find it by going though feedback, but still says "away till the 15th" or something. Been checking like every hour since the 15th.

I ordered in May 3rd. International customer, so it took a little to arrive here. I think the last batch from her was sold in the week of May 5-11th.

Keep checking ebay, as soon as she ship the past orders she will open new ones.

Ah. I assumed that it was just a vacation since her ebay listings still have quantities available, just a message at the top about being away, and can only find the listings by going through feedback. Will continue to wait patiently and not dick around next time some cables are up. Only didn't order before because I was waiting for all of the cables I wanted to be in stock to get cheaper shipping, but fuck that shit.

it os not her vacation, she always do that: gather enough orders, stop the listings, produce and ship them, then reopen the listings.

in May 3rd all cables were available, buy I spoted her auctions in the same day she reopened them.

Hey my Megadrive brothers and sisters, do any of you have recommendations for SCART to YUV (component) upscalers/converters.
I recently purchased a cheap one off eBay made by some company called Lindy. Here are some photos of it:
wsNeWuo.jpg

This thing isn't very good. The picture has frozen while I tried to play Revenge of Shinobi and Ghouls and Ghosts. It specifically froze when I put my Megadrive in 60Hz mode, but seemed fine in 50Hz.
Also, it sometimes resulted in a garbled pinkish screen showing up when first turning the game on (Again at 60Hz). All in all, stay away from this product.

And another thing, keep in mind I am trying to use this on a flat screen LCD. So it would be very handy if the upscaler had some options to readjust the size and position of the output picture.

Yeah, but I'll get to it when I pick up a Genesis. Which I'll get when I can find a decent CD. Figured it would be easier to go from the hardest to get first and work my way down.

Well if you want a head start, i can just send you a complete i found the other day.

I started playing Genesis games relatively young. My second cousin had a Genesis we would play Sonic on, then I got Sega Smash Pack for PC and loved Comix Zone and Kid Chameleon, which are still two of my favorite Genesis games.

So if i'm using the RGB to Component converter...how would I connect a Model 1 Genesis and Model 1 Sega CD? I already use the 3.5 to RCA for stereo, but after I get a M1 Sega CD, it seems like i'd have to connect a 3.5 mm from the Genesis to the Sega CD?

Guessing i'd need two AC adapters to be going as well.

I think you can just use the white/red RCA out jacks on the back of the Sega CD, but it's been a while since I looked at it.

In order to use those, you need to have a 1/8 stereo plug from the front of the Genesis to the back of the Sega CD:

The above is my model 2 Sega CD, but it's the same for the model 1:

The Sega CD normally comes with one, but I don't know if it's easy to get one that still has it.

Edit: A lot of the info I wrote before editing this post a thousand times was wrong. I did more testing, and the audio works fine if you don't have anything coming out of the back of the Sega CD, so he can stick to what he's got, if he wants.
I thought it was weird that some of the audio was only coming out of the Sega CD, since the audio was fine as a kid when I used RF and the Genesis' composite RCA video/audio cables back then.
It turns out that the Sega CD recognizes the cables in the back, so it will only output some of audio (like music and stuff) through there if something is connected to it, and it'll require the Genesis audio to go into it for full audio.

Otherwise, it's fine, though. If you don't have anything connected to the audio ports on the Sega CD, you can just use the headphone jack on the Genesis for full stereo audio. It may or may not sound better when mixed through the Sega CD, but I can't really answer that.

This just came up in another thread - does anybody remember what an absolutely incredible space exploration game this was? Waaay ahead of it's time, anybody know about developer legacy on this one?

Well, according to Wikipedia, only Greg Johnson stayed in games development. But, he then created ToeJam&Earl together with Mark Voorsanger.
Oh yeah, both games where heavily supported by Joe Ybarra, back then vice president of EA.

Some 6 years ago he founded HumaNature Studios but they have yet to announce any game. In the meantime, they made the facebook app "Deko-Deko mail".
But we know one of their projects is developed "directly for Sony".
He describes it as "cute and filled with quirky personality". "It's also super innovative in the area of emotional AI and personality simulation." He said it's designed for both male and female players and will be marketed in the US and Japan (and hopefully in Europe too).

He referred potential artists to the studio's Deko Deko Facebook apps to see the art style of the game.
Propably a reschedule of this, which he started working on with HumaNature for the DS right after it's founding:
More recently, Johnson has begun working on something he describes as the project of his dreams. “It’s kind of the culmination of my life's work so far,” he says, before noting, with some regret, that he is unable to give specifics.

“I can probably say it's a game for the Nintendo DS and it involves very emotionally expressive AI stuff. It's really targeted at non-gamers, and like ToeJam & Earl it's quirky and kind of off-the-wall. I have a little development studio - just eight of us - in Point Richmond called HumaNature Studios and I work with a great bunch. It's been worth the wait to do this.”

Oh yeah, and the fan project "Starflight III" is aparently now defunct, at least no upadtes in 2 years. Cheers.

Got these two games on the mail today. They are still sealed. What kind of mystic ritual should I perform to open them without angrying the retrogaming gods?

Completely missed this post. If you still have it, sure I'm interested if its in great condition. What do you want for it, friendly friend?

Nothing really, unless you wanted to send me a trade or something. I've already got Sonic 2, but I figured i'd grab it and send it to someone who would appreciate it, instead of just letting it hang in a thrift store. Its in pretty good shape though. Manual, original case + hangtab attached, and the label is in good shape aside from some mark across the very top. I'll post some pictures later today.

EDIT: Actually it doesnt have a mark across the top lol, thats just part of the label separating the black grid on the top of the cart that says Sonic 2.

I just had a long conversation about this game with two friends a couple of weeks ago. One played the Genesis version while the other friend had played the PC version. They are both in their 30s and were explaining how many hours they spent playing the game in the 90s.

All the details they remember and were excited about, including the novel DRM the game had - in-game space police that would randomly ask you for co-ordinates on the fold-out map that was included with the game! Turns out if you had the biggest weapon in the game you could defeat them :D

Finally got around to purchasing a Japanese Mega Drive complete in box. It's one of the earliest models with the little registration symbol by the logo. :)

haha that's awesome, never heard of that! what other differences did they see?
such a great game, i too played it on genesis & loved the crap out of it, shared it with all my friends (i think that's how i lost my star map with all the wormholes marked...)

Be sure to cut the hang tabs off.

you're gonna get slack for this, but i got your back bro

I hate to re-ask questions, but I scanned the retro-thread and I could not find the post that I saw some days/weeks ago: the link to the store that sells an AC adapter that powers the Genesis/32x/SegaCD at the same time. Does anyone remember it?

...stereo AV cables for a Model 1 Mega Drive?

You're right, maybe that A/V cable didn't originally come in the box. I looked at the manual it and shows a simpler A/V cable with mono sound output. Now I gotta track that down the correct cable. :)

Also saw this, why would someone pull the poor mega drive's cord like that?

What is up with the early EA releases on Genesis? It seems to use three different box sizes (thickness). Which one is the first release of the games? I notice that I have a copy from Road Rash that comes from my youth (and I must bought it near its launch if I recall right) and it is thin and it does not have any insert besides the manual. I just got a another copy, a "fat" one that comes with a poster. Are the thin ones re-releases?

Rygar 8 Bit

Jaguar 64-bit
games with thin manuals got the thinner cases but games like star flight and power monger that have big manuals got fatter cases

edit: also your guys games came in ill send them out here sometime this week

I don't know what you mean by "correct" cable (you mean original?)

Anyway, I recently bought one on Ebay:

http://www.ebay.com/bhp/sega-genesis-1-av-cable

They're not expensive at all.

I'm really bummed that my Genesis is, somehow, fucked. Video output is all messed up, and I already replaced/cleaned the Capacitor that blew up. I think it might have messed up some circuit track, since the capacitor spewed it's insides all over the back side of the video area of the Genesis board. I looked, but couldn't find anything wrong... :(

I even bought a Trio PSU and a new Audio/Video cable (like the one I linked) to see if those were the problems, but nope...

FWIW, I picked up a supposedly stereo A/V cable for my model 1 Genesis a while back and it doesn't work. IIRC, sound comes out of the white jack fine but absolutely nothing comes through the red one.
