How is it so clean?

I also picked up ROBO Aleste (Musha Aleste in Japanese) complete for the Mega CD for 1010 yen. Not bad.
Hold on, M.U.S.H.A. is "Musha Aleste" in Japan. They can't both be "Musha Aleste", surely.

Okay, I see that's already been addressed, and I just missed it because I didn't notice there was another page. K.

Robo Aleste (Dennin Aleste) is actually sequel to MUSHA; they aren't the same game.

Oh, I didn't mean to imply that they were the same game, only that the MD/Genesis game in the series is much more expensive. ;-p

and yeah oops, I meant to put Dennin Aleste (as Musha Aleste is the MD game). Too much Musha on the brain.

Maybe I should've put "Nobunaga and his Ninja force" as that is on the cover in English.

I feel like I missed the boat with the Genesis as I went from a NES to SNES before I even heard of the Genesis. My buddy in HS had one, I dug Sonic 2, but that was the only game that made an impression me. Nothing on the level of Super Metroid anyway. I don't think the games aged as well as SNES games and all my Nostalgia blinders comes in the form of NES/SNES/N64 games. I made up for this with my Dreamcast love however. If I were to go back, I'd want to try a few Genesis games but it will never be the same as if I played it back then sadly.

Yeah, Robo Aleste is the game that always makes me remember that I haven't been playing my sega cd much. When I finally dig the thing up, the game is usually in there.

Just started playing Grind Stormer again since I decided to drag out my JAMMA modded genesis. I had let it slide since I got it when I first got my nomad and a ton of games years ago, but I'm still seriously impressed!

I think this port might be better than the original arcade game since you get training mode and the choice between playing it as V-V (think gradius power up system) or Grind Stormer (traditional weapon-ups). Sure, it doesn't look as nice as the arcade board, but it is really feature complete considering we're talking about an unhyped 90s shooter.

I did the same as you, but now I largely find SNES games to be boring, sparsely populated, and slow. It might also be that having gone so strictly Nintendo growing up allowed me to get my fill of all of the great releases on that system...

For people that are super interested in that trio ac adapter for the genesis/32x/cd, I just got an email from their mailing list that they are planing to open preorders for it's next production run next week. So yeah, stay on the lookout for it.

I hope they are doing the Duos as well, since who cares about the 32x?

Don't know if it was mentioned, but seriously guys, check out the Genesis version of Shadowrun.

The SNES Shadowrun was a perfectly fine game, but the Genny version was pretty much a proto-GTA. A lot of open world elements were in that game before the concept of open world games was even really a thing.

It is probably the hardest game I've ever played. Very strict in its challenge, a lot of the money penalties scale based on percentages and can simply cripple you if they add up. I really like it though myself, the matrix sections are also pretty difficult and that seems to be the most common way to make money.

Picked up Rocket Knight Adventures, Tiny Toons, and a N64 rumble pack for $5 at the flea market today. Not too bad.

yeah man, id call that 3 for 3 myself. i recall enjoying the first 2 games, and you can never have too many rumble packs!

unless you have 4, then you probably need to stop

I just plugged my Genesis back in after a couple years in the closet. While I think that SNES wins out in the end, there are some fantastic games.

Playing through Valis III (why I changed my avatar) again after all these years has been a blast.

Speaking of Sega CD, I still need to track a good unit. At the time I had a Model 1 which looked absolute amazing and that model brings me good nostalgia. However it seems that model 1 is kind of unreliable, is that right? Should I persuit a Model 2? Consider that I may have to import a unit, so dead on arrival machines would be extremely painfull to me.

The motor that opens the tray to the Model 1 is what fails most of the time, if I'm not mistaken.

Sega CD 2s tend to last longer, and I have two of them that still function perfectly. So I can attest to that.

What he said. Less moving parts on a model 2, so less stuff that can break. Not to mention that people try to get a lot more for working model 1s.

The problem I am having is getting a model 2 with the extender and all the metal plates.

Would get one, if the shipping costs were not the same price as the AC adapter itself!

Ouch, sorry about you luck.

Edit: Holly balls, them ac adapters already sold out.

You are valid, even I have a SNES with a few games. However, I like to keep in mind that the Genesis had an earlier entry and its late lifecycle was distracted with add-ons and other console failures. I love those short, solid arcade ports for quick gaming sessions but the library has a good affordable mix of titles.

Oh man... there's someone within driving distance, albeit a long drive, selling 14" PVM monitors for a $100. I don't know if these models have composite inputs though and I'm more than a little hesitant since that's a pretty small sized set to try and play games on.

The price is so good though, argh. I'm so conflicted.

Does anyone have any experience with PVMs? Or gaming on a set that small?

Quick question, is the genesis region locked? Can I play Mega Drive games I buy in Japan on my US Genesis?

Japanese Mega Drive carts won't physically fit in the North American Genesis cartridge bay unless you widen it with a dremel or something. Once that's done you should be able to play import games up until about 1993, but after that they started implementing region locking in the software. To get around software region locked games, you'll need a Game Genie or similar cheat device. Probably better idea to just get a Game Genie anyway instead of hacking up your cartridge bay, lol

Another option is to get it modded, but I'm not knowlegeable about that. I actually own an import MD in addition to my domestic Gen, so I just play my JP games on that.

The majority you can play with

Either just to serve as pass through since mega drive carts are wider, or codes to bypass region lock on most of the later carts.

I mentioned this, wow a week ago.(reply 3198) Anyway the mod is just putting a switch on a jumper. (Since the way it works is the Genesis/MD motherboard has a jumper that determines region.)Look up "Genesis language switch" if you want to know about it. Actually the Retron 3 has a region switch on it. (Oh and any game can check the jumper. Revenge of Shinobi is one that turns into the "Super Shinobi" when played on a mega drive.)

Well, guess I will just buy a mega drive out there. Can't be too expensive.

I don't know about your area, but do know that when I was looking for a PVM, the 14" ones were under $40. Got my 20m4u for $100.

What is the full model name? Can't check to see what inputs it has without that. Also a good idea to get anyone selling you to tell you the manufactured date that is printed on the back, and stay away from ones from before like 2000.

I'm unfortunately not sure of the model. The seller doesn't have that particular info listed. I'm extremely jealous of that monitor you found. If you don't mind me asking, where did you find that?

I just hopped on Craigslist and the only sets in my region are 14" models. The only other seller I saw wanted $200 for it. Oh, and why should I avoid models before 2000? I contacted the seller about the inputs and he says it has component, s-video, and composite inputs, so at the very least I know that much now.

Mine was from ebay like 2 months ago. Not even a buyout, just an auction that ran the full time and I was the only bidder. Guess I should say $120 because of shipping (I'm sure he lost money on that).

2000 is kinda arbitrary, but you got to understand what these monitors were used for. Normally ran non stop so you can end up getting worn out ones easily. Don't think the PVMs have a way to see operational hours like the BVMs so got to rely on sellers telling you how much use they had, and knowing when it was made.

Seller should be able to tell you the model number if you ask since it is printed on several tags and not hidden or obscured.

Getting really sick of every day only seeing Sega CD listings for like over $200 when the only stuff that has actually sold recently has been around $100.

it's a problem for classic gaming all over ebay lately, man..BIN's are a waste unless you're balling & don't care. what sucks is if too few people do regular auctions for a long time, you see those get stupid-high the last few minutes too. then you got those dudes who put BIN at $200 with "best offer" but auto-refuse anyone lower than $190, because i really wanted those 3 emails, thanks for that

Once I got e-mails refusing offers $1 less than the selling price. It is just plain stupid.

Found a bunch of things like that. Whats the point of it? More people come to look and get nervous when they see a ton of offers on something so may buy out without thinking? Or just letting the seller give second chance offers after the item fails? Guess a combo of both of those reasons is enough of an intensive to do it.

I've had a small bit of luck with BIN, but yeah, for the most part, its gonna be pricey.

A Japanese Mega Drive will play PAL Mega Drive games with no modding.

That's not true is it? If it's a Model 1 JP Mega Drive you'll have to remove the cartridge lock peg because it will knock into the cartridge and won't let you start the system. PAL carts don't have the notch on the left side that JP carts do that allow them to lock in place on a model 1 JP MD.

Accolade, Codemasters, and EA carts should be fine though, because the carts are small enough that the lock peg doesn't interfere with them. Sonic and Knuckles (All territories) have the cartridge lock notch so they won't be a problem either.

Ah, thanks for the tips. I'll have to ask about the model number. Maybe if I'm patient I can grab a 20" for not too much more. For what it's worth this is his listing minus a couple photos of some of the units.
Hello I am selling a few Standard Definition Sony Broadcast monitors. They all still have robust colour as i have checked them all with colour bars, i will re-connect the bars to show if you like. Many have soft or hard cases for them, you choice. They are excellent for non-HD editing stations, i used them with Final Cut Pro very successfully. They also can be used as security monitors. The model series is 'PVM' they are all 14" i also have combo-8mm recoder units, as well as Sony 9" Trinitron monitors custom for different aspect ratios. I have about 10 of these units and will sell in bulk. Prices is negotiable. I also have Sony 8mm clamshell recorders, Sharp 10" flat screen monitors, tuners by Sony. All of the gear is stored indoors and in good shape, well kept by technicians at Sony and A-tech electronics. Again negotiable, the more you buy, the better the deal. Thank you.

I'm about to pick up a Genesis locally. Has Sonic, NHL 94, 95, and two Madden games included. $30, doesn't seem like a bad deal. It's in working condition, but we'll see. However, I'm wondering if there's a preferred way to clean systems like this? I'm going to start collecting more and would love to have some really nice looking stuff.

Also, is this a good Trinitron? I don't know much about them.

Pretty sure that's the same model as the one I posted a picture of earlier in the thread. So yes, it's good!

Thank you, didn't see the post. I think I will pick it up then if I can get a hold of the person. For the price it seems like a great pick-up. Should work great with my Dreamcast/GameCube/N64 and hopefully soon my Genesis!
