It doesn't need to sell crazy amounts or constantly be in the conversation to be overhyped. It's overhyped because it's an average game but every time someone mentions it, you'd think it was the second coming (thanks for proving my point btw ;) )

because it's so good hnnnnnghhh (i really do love the co-op in that gem though)

also from the pick-up post:

I agree, it's a good game, but public opinion is that it's the holy grail of gaming. I also think Panic on Funkatron doesn't get enough love.

No Sega art book will ever top this:

Smoke cigarette.

I want some awesome Sega magazines. :(

TJ&E is not the second coming but it is far from average, it is a great game on its own. Its co-op play was a break from the normal status quo and the random generated levels were really amazing at the time. I agree that it has limit replay value even with the random levels, but I had a blast playing the game with my brother and making our own rules (like make a competitive game, who picks the most pieces, tomato wars, etc).

^wasn't aware of the extent of the additions...damn that does sound like a great game now!

great prices all around, man - i gotta ask though, which AES carts you leave behind? man you guys have awesome shops, i dont think ive even seen one in the wild out here
Samurai Shodown III for $60. Super Sidekicks 2 for $50. King of Fighters '96 for $70. These were the three I was most interested in based on price and condition. There were others, too. I could easily spend an entire paycheck on Neo AES games at these stores.

All were complete.

I'm one of their few Neo customers. Hopefully I can go back later and pick one up.

I kind of want to kick myself for not getting Cadillacs and Dinosaurs for SEGA CD. The price was really right. I may go back in a few weeks. Just have a lot of bills right now.

I didn't know Cadillacs and Dinosaurs was ported to Sega CD. Is it as good as Final Fight?

You are thinking of two completely different games.

The Sega CD version is not a port of the Capcom beat'n'up. It is a FMV on-rail shooter made by Rocket Science Games.

Edit: beaten.

Target Earth/Assault Suits Leynos changed my life....

I was all psyched up to play this last night, and my cart doesn't work. It worked before, so I'm hoping cleaning the contacts will fix it.

Love this game. Haven't beaten it in many years though.

So, 2 things

1. Cadallicas and Dinosaurs was one of the buggest letdowns of my life, foding out it wasnt the capcom game i loved.

2. You guys go to Sega-Age? Ive been getting some crazy good deals from there recently, its worth taking a look at

Ah okay.

Years ago, I found a PC sampler CD-ROM with Cadillacs and Dinos on it. I wonder which version it's based on, lol

I would think that it's the Sega CD game, since most of Rocket Science Games' releases were PC games. Their first two games, Loadstar and Cadillacs and Dinosaurs, were released on both PC and Sega CD, then their next four games after that (before being shut down) were all PC or PC+Mac titles.

Yeah, it's got to be. Especially since Loadstar is also on the disc.

Apogee were never known for their character originality. They took things from all sorts of other media and plugged them into their games at the time. Could they have done the same here? Absolutely.

There's a difference between unoriginal and ripping wholesale. I think the fact that both characters are named Duke means the line was crossed.

1991 was a different time. Ripping off characters and/or game designs wholesale was still pretty much in vogue back then.

It's not that I don't agree with you. The similarity is striking. That's just how things were, especially with Apogee/3D Realms.

A buff blonde guy with a flat top and tank top wasn't an original idea in Dynamite Duke either. It was 1989, everyone wanted their main characters to look like Arnold.

Which is why I said the line was crossed with the name being the same. Plus the tank top is red, which is also a shared detail.

Well, I do know that Scott Miller was definitely an arcade gamer of the time. Very tuned in. I helped him locate a Forgotten Worlds arcade machine for their office in the late 90's. It's very possible they had played Dynamite Duke and gotten some "inspiration".

The Schwarzenegger thing is definitely part of it too of course.

Well Duke Nukem's name is actually taken directly from a Captain Planet villain, and his original shirt was pink. Its just a coincidence that they look like every other late 80's action guy.

damn, i remember Duke being a fun rental...and yeah that cover art is such a time capsule, haha

What do you guys think of MARK CERNY'S Kid Chameleon?

...why did i not know this before
again totally missed out on that & chakan as late releases, by then i was prolly only playing FULL MOTION VIDEO GAMES, aka real games

1992 is a "late release"?

As for Kid Chameleon itself, I'm not that fond of it. Like, it's functional, and has bouts of fun here and there, but the whole thing's ludicrously lengthy and obscenely challenging. At least you can easily see the ending by using a warp in the second stage all the way to the final one. Gameplay is pretty blatantly Super Mario Bros., too, and while the different suits do differentiate it somewhat, they only help so much.

damn, '92? i was way later in my head...this is what i get for basing release dates off of "it showed up in my local TRU around (x) point"

A good contact-cleaning saved Target Earth. Time to find out how badly my abilities have atrophied.

Ton of moire though. Anyone know if RGB fixes the moire issues?

Edit: looks like the moire is a problem with the crappy version of the Model 2. This console has a few other problems too, so I'm going to go hunt for a new one.

Yeah, Kid Chameleon has good controls and solid level designs, but the graphics are somewhat poor (small and bland sprites...), and the game is far, FAR too long. I've read an excuse that they didn't want a battery in it that would die, but that's not excuse for not at least putting in a password system! And with over 100 levels, if any game ever needed a password system, Kid Chameleon is it.

So, got to my 10th beaten game on my Sega blog. Man, Ka-Ge-Ki might be one of the worst games i have ever played on the Sega Genesis, and i have played some really shitty games.

Hey anybody know of some good general fit dust covers for game consoles? I'm tired of having to disassemble the tower of power every time I wanna dust it off.
