tycoonheart said:Whats the big deal about texting in a theater? I've had to whip out my phone a few times while watching movies and spend 10 secs to text someone real quick. Does that really bother people? Heck, I even try to shield the phone from everyone around me so no one will even see my trying to text.
I actually like this idea, I'm going to use it next time, someone texts next to me in the theaterCopernicus said:If those people are right next to me, I make it a point to read their conversation.
That usually gets them to put the phone away.
EricHasNoPull said:I've heard a lot about the Alamo, but never been, so it's dinner and a movie at once? don't people make lot of noise while eating? cutlery and all that? How does the dinner part work? especially in the dark, can someone care to explain? I'm not here trying to contradict anything, I seriously like to learn more about the "Alamo Drafthouse experience" It's dinner first and then a movie?
You would rather have someone get up from the middle of a packed theater, having this person block the view for a few others, have people scoot back so he can get out of his row... than "dealing" with 10 secs of cell phone screen?SUPREME1 said:If it's so crucial that you must text.... Get your ass up, head to the lobby, handle your business.
Lazy and inconsiderate fucks ruin the movie going experience.

You don't need to be going to the theaters if you have a bad cough. You still need to think about others. Being sick is no excuse to be an ass hole.Grifter said:I'm recovering from bronchitis. Would they kick me out for coughing?
I wish they would.

daw840 said:Hmmm, I honestly never thought this bothered anyone. I pull my phone out to see who called or tested or maybe to check what time it is. I never actually send anything off or leave it out for a couple of seconds but I still just never thought ot was a big deal....to anyone.
Kitsunebaby said:Really? Despite the fact that every single movie theatre has a preview telling people to turn of their phones (not silence them, turn them off) it NEVER occurred to you that it might possibly bother some people?
It's not nearly the most annoying thing to me at the movies but it still astounds me how willfully ignorant people can be about common courtesy. They know it's not allowed but choose to do it anyway because they think that somehow rules don't apply to them. It doesn't matter if the think the rule is stupid, follow it!

Touch-screen phones have screens that are 3~4" tall; my HTC Evo can light up a room with its screen. It's a distraction even on low light settings.
You go to a movie to watch the movie. If you're in the middle of something that is so important that it can't wait two hours for a response, you probably shouldn't be at the movies anyways.

MC Safety said:Oh, it's entitlement and stupidity. Some people really have no concept of shared space, of the volume of the voice, or how their actions might be bothersome to others.
It's a movie. Sit and watch it. For two hours, you don't need to multitask or check your e-mail or whatever.
tycoonheart said:There is a huge fucking screen that is in front of you that is 100 times brighter than the cell phone ever will be. I have yet to be distracted away from the screen on to the cell phone because the cellphone happens to be that bright.
thedrizzle34 said:There is no more annoying thing at the theater than seeing the person in your peripheral vision 3 or 4 rows in front of you with their bright-as-hell phone texting during the whole movie, and they are far enough away that you can't even quitely inform them that it bothers you.
My video game playing eyes have been trained to immediately focus on the new bright thing that shows up in my field of vision, and IMO it is incredibly distracting. The only thing worse is the jackass who leaves his pulsing bluetooth headset on his ear. (I have seen this a handful of times; not lately though)
Good job Alamo Drafthouse.
Ploid 3.0 said:Oh you guys don't mean when someone hold their phone at their side discreetly and text away, but when they hold it near their face, above the seat, or near their chest. Yeah they should stealth that stuff.
Woah, you need to chill on this. My daughter, who is almost three, sometimes is able to sit through a movie. I do agree taking a kid to a theater to see a movie that isn't a kids movie at night is a jackass thing to do, but still.G-Fex said:This is the stupidest fucking thing ever, parents are idiots.
daw840 said:OK, fuck off first off. That post was meant to acknowledge a problem I didn't know existed.
Yes, in this one instance you don't need to do what society, school, and work tell you to do all the time and do it better. Just turn off that innate habit that you don't even think about. It's cool, should be really easy right?

MC Safety said:Look, it's not my fault you're an idiot. Don't get mad at me.
And I'm pretty sure your school and work aren't telling you to take personal phone calls and text when you're supposed to be learning and working.
Multitasking is innate? I'm not exactly sure you understand what that word means.
