Silent Hill 2 |OT| You promised you'd take me there again someday...

Yeah "in the water" is considered canon also in the SH2 novel. It's the "bad ending", but a PERFECT conclusion nonetheless for reasons you pointed out. The SPOILER ALERT corpse in the car is just such a legendary twist in all of videogame storytelling history and it's the only ending that "uncovers" it, solidifying what was the real timeline of events was.

Water is not canon, Masahiro Ito explained this on twitter in 2023!

Yeah for so many years people debated over which ending was canon, and so many fans pushed "Water" as the canon ending, but it was never explicitly stated by Team Silent. Glad Ito cleared this up a year ago.

Also I never understood the argument toward "Water" being the only ending that fits with the story. Both "Leave" and "Water" equally fit as a conclusion. It's just up to player interpretation on the events that unfold and how James evolves throughout the story. There's a reason why the player's behaviors throughout the game dictate what ending you get. Not from some ABC choice at the end.

Sure, i wasn't saying that the remake is bad or anything like that, it's a great survival horror from what i played, and if enemy variety is not that big, so be it.

I take a few good enemies over more numerous shitty enemies.

Enemies are tied to the story, these can't be more than the originals, except for the variations.

I understand that you dont like it and it's fine if we disagree but I have seen many requests for this issue online and this mod will make some people happy, me included. That's why I shared it

I made the screenshot btw in a very dark area, because I am in the prison which is why its very dark
I'm with you man. The mod looks waaaay better and more realistic. Complaining about seeing silhouettes in the dark with a light in front of you doesn't make sense to me.

Wish I had that as an option on PS5.

Downloaded it before they inevitably delete it for many types of 'isms. I have no problem with new Angela though, she's not a looker or anything but she doesn't need to be.
I don't like how NuAngela looks, but I'm not a fan of that version either. The mod makes her too pretty. Angela always had a weird malnourished inbred thing going I grew fond of, and neither translate it.

Wish they'd stuck closer to the characters designs of the digital artbook...

Unless things change, I haven't found the game scary. It's spooky for sure but it's all monster closets and James is a machine with the wood/pipe. Nothing feels like a threat. Mostly just check for hidden enemies and that's getting to be quite old/predictable, if not silly at times. I have 180 handgun rounds, 44 shotgun shells, 9 health drinks, 10 syringes. I am near invincible.

Outside of the graphics and audio, I think my favorite thing is the level design, it's very good at guiding the player but it's also giving it a very linear vibe, which all of these games have but some mask it better than others. It reminds me of Dead Space and Fatal Frame 4.

The game also makes me think of how fickle reviewers are when it comes to games feeling "dated". This game feels dated as hell when it comes to gameplay/combat, there's nothing wrong with that but it's a good example of how people will alter their critiques when the thing they view as a negative is suddenly acceptable because it's in a game they are hyped about.

Overall a great game so far but outside the visuals/audio, it's not hitting the highs for me as others describe experiencing.

Edit- I'm at the Historical Society, roughly 10.5 hours in.

Just finished it. Got the leave ending (was aiming for Maria, expected in water) 16 hrs on hard for combat & puzzles.

Fantastic game. Sound design is phenomenal. Everything up til the prison was great. Then labyrinth felt like it dragged on and on. Eddie fight was far easier than I expected due to ghosting from movement on PS5 & 3D audio.

My only real complaint that bothered me through whole game was melee in corridors.

Game situation on Amazon got a little bizarre. First went from 70€ to 85€ two days ago, then sold out aside from third-party sellers at 120€, and now it appears you just can't purchase it at all anymore.

Glad I got my copy.

Just 24 more days till Pro arrives and I can finally start the game..

Maybe you should go to hard mode. I started there and I legit dread every monster encounter. Fear levels are pretty up there

I agree that if combat is too easy in a horror game, it kills fear factor though. As fantastic as the Dead Space Remake was, the OG was scarier just due to difficulty. Remake difficulty was a joke.

Yea, I think I might go right into hard mode upon completion.

I play a ton of difficult games and always play on Hard modes and SH2 combat has been oppressive and brutal imo. You can check my posts in here lol. Enemies are fucking scary on Hard and I'm typically low on resources and have to really think about encounters, try stealth etc.
One thing that would help, and I expected it but it's not there; limit the amount of bullets and heals you can carry. At this point I'm hoarding to see if there is a max capacity. AITD 2024 is pretty easy once you figure out the flow of combat but you're also limited to like 30 bullets max and only 5 heals, and a single heal doesnt really don't do a ton if you're super low. It really makes up for being able to strong-arm enemies. Same with Homecoming, you're not limited with heals but you are with bullets.

I don't say this to be inflammatory but FF4, Homecoming, and AITD all keep me on edge more than SH2 remake. I think it stems from the limitations placed on you. James really does feel like Doom guy to me but yea, playing on hard could resolve that.

Nah, I know Bloober enough to know that an English vocal first play would have ruined the game for me. Everything they've made is like nails on a chalkboard when it comes to vocal direction. As for difficulty, there's plenty of survival horror games that balance things just fine on normal difficulty. James is a tank in this game, I don't see how hard will shake it up that much considering enemies are easy to dodge and melee, I'd have 90 bullets instead of 180. I will give it a try though.

You should try hard mode.

Also for the love of god, tell me that you are not playing the game (or any game really) with italian voices...
Why would you use anything other than the original va if you know english probably better than me?

They should pay me big money to play anything in italian.

But I remember having loads of bullets and health drinks in the original
SH was never SURVIVAL Horror like that anyway. I know because I just replayed SH1 and SH2 back to back and was shocked to find out that conserving ammo by melee-ing everything, aka stunlocking everything, was a waste of time. I remember specifically having 120 handgun bullets a few hours into SH1.

SH2 Remake on Hard at least is cranked the fuck up to actual Survival imo. Either that or I just suck.

Man, I WISH there were Italian, it's just English and Japanese. I'm playing Japanese and it's been a great experience. Maria translates so well to the Japanese tone.

I like Bloober, I never had any doubts with their ability for atmosphere. The Medium is legit scary but outside of Troy Baker as the demon, the rest of the dialogue absolutely ruined the game for me. The same has applied with some of their other titles I've tried, that's why I went with Japanese but I also wanted a fresh take because I love the OG voice acting and I recognized that I'd be comparing the two, with Japanse I'm not. It's been a great experience so far, really drives home the J-Horror vibe of SH2, because SH2 at its core is a J-Horror tale.

Also, playing in foreign languages can really elevate some games. RE: Revelations and RE6, play either of those in Italian and the game instantly becomes better. Highly recommended.

I watch a lot of Italian horror, usually English dub but also the Italian dub. The Italian language sounds awesome to me and it helps with some horror games because it gives it a more video nasty euro horror vibe. Hard to convey if you've never watch Argento, Fulci, Bava, etc. Classic era Italian horror is top shelf stuff. Watch the director's cut of Deep Red sometime, or The Beyond. So good.

Bava is my shit. Black Sabbath being one of my favorite Horror movies. Took my girlfriend to see Deep Red on an early date and it sent her on a major Horror kick ever since.

Or a few good headshots and a bonk in between. A clean shot with a shotgun works as well.
That's been my tactic in the hospital. Start with a headshot or two, then go in for the melee. I still feel intense satisfaction when I perfectly dodge that 3-piece pipe combo. I'm actually impressed by Bloober's handling of details on enemy attacks in some ways. Different attacks and swings have different delays and rhythms and you actually have to learn their movesets to not get shit on immediately. The knife nurses have a totally different moveset and timing for example and I was like oh...huh, nice.

Not that this is new shit in gaming or nothing but coming from a company that basically avoided combat or really gameplay mechanics like this as a whole, it kind of impresses me. What initially felt kinda janky has also been down to me learning the combat more and while it has some janky shit still, it keeps giving for sure.

I don't understand, are you italian or not? :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

Because all the italians who know english never play with ita VA, always the same 20 voices and the direction is often terrible.
