Prison was a decent area. The start of it really made me feel claustrophobic. Those wall crawlers were annoying though.

Angela

Wow, some really heavy stuff there in her backstory. Did not expect that. The boss design is also weirdly creepy and matches the story. Amazing cutscenes once again.

Labyrinth

Also Maria is back wtf? I have no idea what is going on. I feel like at the end of this James is probably just going to wake up from a dream lol.

A few days after finishing it, I keep thinking over and over about the game and how fantastic it was. The story, the acting, in particular Jame´s actor absolutely crushed it, the graphics and the environments, I don't know man, the sounds and this particular feeling of oppression that only Silent Hill gives you. They nailed it.

I really hope they make more Silent Hill games

Tried playing the PS3 version of this game but lost interest early on and dropped it. I remember bad graphics, clunky movement and no sense of direction. Since then I've fallen asleep to many video essays singing the game's praises. Figured why not try again with the remake.

This is one of the best games I've ever played. The blend of exploration, puzzle solving and combat is perfectly balanced. Engaged and immersed the entire 20 hour playthrough.

Then there's the subject matter of the story. Not something gaming usually covers. Hoping 1 gets remade next.

Gonna play something else before I start new game plus. Hopefully I start with all the weapons. I'd love to blast my way through with unlimited ammo.

I was scrolling through Twitter and saw this article. Don't care for IGN at all, but it was nice to read/see, even if it's a small thing. I feel like it's only a matter of time, at least I'd really hope so. https://www.ign.com/articles/silent...er-team-open-to-making-more-silent-hill-games

Ok, so I‘m at the prison now and I may be one of the few but…. I think the game has run its course by now.

Getting mad Alan Wake 2 vibes. It’s just too long. IMO the gameplay is not able to carry a game this long and also I now realise why OG SH2 was so short. The pacing in the Remake is off.
I agree.

I'm still really enjoying the game but it's too long for the SH2 story. I think it would have been better off as it's own SH title. If that was the case though, I'm curious if people would have been as receptive to it or if the focus on combat would have made people enraged.

It's an interesting thought experiment.

Making my way to the infamous prison now. I like how one of the last notes after leaving the
hospital
says that pretty much everyone is succeptible to crossing to the otherside depending on how fucked up they mentally are. And lo and behold, after the events of that second dungeon, the world is permenantly fucked for James.

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
So does this make the date Silent Hill 2 was set in canon.
With the type of TV's & PC's around the place it definitely indicates to mid 90's
Also the old newspaper and Prescription at the Pharmacy was dated 1992.

Finished New Game Plus with objectively the Best Ending.

Such a good boi!

God, I love this remake. After I grab one more ending trophy, I’ll take a break and come back later on for the Platinum. The speed run trophy, admittedly using a guide to get some codes for locks faster, was actually quite easy, I was at 6 and a half hours and that was even still with me wasting a bit of time here and there doing some optional exploring. And the new game plus weapon makes getting the “no use of ranged weapons” trophy super easy as well.

Well done, Bloober

It clearly didnt have the budget or the polish of a Resident Evil remake made by Capcom, for example, but it more than compensates it with heart and soul. Loved absolutely everything about it. This thing was a labour of love and you could tell.

Well, 98% of it. I believe the game could have ended at that scene, but it kept going and going with pretty much nothing more to say. Closure with Angela was great tho, and I loved the overall pacing. Game was also scary sometimes, holy shit.

Some bugs sucked. Dont know why no one is talking about some "white blocks" while turning the camera on the PS5, like the game wasnt able to render that part of the environment on time. My girlfriend was watching me playing and even she had noticed it. Very distracting.

Also got a bug where "Skip" keeps showing up randomly during cutscenes. Getting such bug during some major cutscenes (such as the ending) was a bummer.

Level design was freaking beautiful. It was like the police department in RE 2 x 5. Puzzles were on standard, and the difficulty was just right. Actors were on point, with the exception of Angela and Maria that were weak, imo.

My GOTY. Hoping for more SH Remakes.

Finished the Prison area and the Labyrinth. Both were 60% too long. There was also no context for going into these two areas unlike previous areas, so it just felt like same thing different area just for the sake of it.
The atmosphere was great in both as usual though, and the prison is probably the most oppressive area of the lot so far, so well done there.

Getting back out onto the streets feels really great, and the graphics get to shine as well. Currently in the Hotel and I'm so relaxed here coming from the last two areas lol. The same enemies also don't feel scary anymore. Perhaps they've overused them.

in terms of story, Maria was dead when I found her the second time in the Labyrinth. So again no idea what's going on with her dying, alive, and dying again. The Toluca lake was beautiful, and the hotel area is beautiful as well.

Finished the game and got the In Water ending.

Pros:
- Atmosphere
- Sound Design
- Graphics (except foliage)
- Map (clear and easy to understand, auto-fills, has hints etc)
- Enemy Design (good telegraphing, creepy animations and movement, etc)
- Voice Acting
- Cutscenes
- Story

Cons:
- Some dungeons are too long (Prison and Labyrinth and perhaps even the Hotel). Also, no narrative context for why we are spending time here specifically. Also going straight from Prison to Labyrinth is probably not the best.
- There is probably a little too much combat, and due to that, later in the game the enemies lose their scare factor as you've beaten so many of them.

In terms of Story:
So all of these creatures and characters are in James' head? Are Angela, Eddie, Laura not real either? The ending was a little sad where James didn't want to live and drove the car to his death.

Overall, this is one of the scariest horror games I've ever played. What an achievement it is for atmospheric games. Fantastic sound design and it really deserves to win awards in these areas. I am really keen to see what the other Silent Hill games are like, but I'll wait till Bloober remakes them.

I don’t want to sound nitpicky but man does Bloober like to reuse the riddle structure…

Don’t want to say where I am now but this must be the fifth time the game present me with a central puzzle and then I have 3 or 4 ways branching off to find parts of said puzzle.

Am I the only one bothered by this? Feels a bit redundant by now tbh.

I noticed something that I might be wrong / mistaken about. I played in 32:9, got the
Leave
ending and even took a screenshot
CGxP9Ni.jpeg

If you look in the bottom left you see
Angela
but in a stream I watched, in 16:9, that got the same ending, that didn't show. Its probably just making a cutscene from previous stuff, but with the new, light take theory for the remake specifically, that
it seems to be a never ending loop of sorts with no escape
it adds a little to the
reset and go again theory
To be clear, I do think it is just reused assets and nothing deep, just having fun.

Bonus screenshot near the end of the game

i wished that you could
row to that island and enter the church of rebirth yourself after getting all the rebirth items. would give a second playthrough a little more oomph

Just finished my playthrough. Yeah, this is my GOTY thus far.

My only nitpicks were that the performance was somewhat inconsistent on my PC, the "rotating cube" portion of the game dragged a bit, and the ending
stereotypical videogame boss fight
wasn't needed in this type of game.

But those are all minor qualms. It's a masterpiece.

About your questions:

Yes, all the monsters were projections from James. Silent Hill makes a personal hell for each person. This is why Laura never faced those monsters (it was probably just an empty town for her, since she didnt have her own demons), and Eddie was always facing the same bully that called him fat, while Angela only faced her father.

Angela, James, Eddie and Laura were all humans attracted by the town. They were real.

And the monsters not scaring you anymore by the end of the game is so on point lol. 'Cause they have no purpose anymore. James is also not scared by them anymore.

Gonna finish this in a couple of days, exploring the prison now.
That descent down was freaking epic, almost matching Elden Ring in sheer terror.
Doing a ng+ probably in dec on the profor the trophies that are looking interesting to get. Chainsaw + radio off + all melee. Best part of replaying survival horror is putting shit on easy mode and just killing the shit out of things that scared you the first time.

I went down for 20 seconds, then turned around expecting it to do the Super Mario 64 Bowser's staircase trick, where you can never actually make it all the way. Nope, it's just a solid minute descent.

Finished it tonight. It was a very good game. Not my GOTY but I liked it a lot. Still have it behind several REs and Dead Space and some others in terms of best survival horror games, but it's one of the better ones. Need to do a deep dive on the story and lore because I don't remember any of it from years back when I played and was confused through the majority of the game.

Picked this up on Friday and had a chance to get a blast at it last night as the other half and the kids were away for the night.

Fuck me, it's so good! Ive torn Bloober in the past. I really didn't like the Medium, and honestly pre release I thought this would be a mess. They have totally proven me wrong. Well done guys.

I made it out of the Hotel section before heading to bed last night. It's my GOTY so far. Wish it performed about 10fps better on my system with the visuals cranked but otherwise...well done!

It's so atmospheric. The sound design is miles better than their previous stuff too which I absolutely adore. Great game. Pisses all over the Resident Evil remakes imo.

I experience a lot of input lag on the ps5. People have the same? I had this with AW2 as well
Even in quality mode it was decent input of moves and commands and picking up items for my ps5 slim. Except for saving the game. I dont know if its just me but when i try to save the game there is a significant input lag.

When the the knee shot + melee work, it's the best way to get rid of them, but like i said previously, sometimes you need 2 bullets, sometimes 3, sometimes 4, sometimes more.
I think this is by design to put you under stress or try different tactics. Certainly convinced me to go fuck it it's broomstick!
I guess that not all the nurses were doing leg day at the gym religiously.

When i go full melee their attack are easier to dodge than the bi-legs dudes, they just have longer combos but without much feints or bizarre attack tempo like the delayed jab of bi-legs, but the camera a lot of times is the real enemy when it comes to dodge in small spaces, so you dodge the first 2 but them the camera get too close or lose focus and you can barely see the third or forth hit.
How far are you in have you done the prison yet?

While ive loved every fuckin minute of this game, it needs more unlockables. 8 playthroughs to get all the endings and the only unlockable thing is the chainsaw? which is boring as shit to use as well.

Yeah you can savescum for some of the endings but i dont like doing that.
But yeah, im at the end of my 2nd playthrough and its kinda stale already.

Man, there's so many callbacks to the original game, like, they show you the way it was before and you're like - Oh, yeah, I remember that you had to do that in the original, but here it's way different. At one point Maria even calls it a deja vu at the place where she'll start her own gameplay section in the original game. What they did with and for Maria and her scenes around the town, in the strip club and... Ah, I fuckin' love this remake so much. What a faithful reimagining of the original game and they made it so much better in a way it just wasn't even possible before in 2001 in terms of writing, direction, character interactions, cut-scenes etc. etc. I like her new model as well, she's different yet still familiar.

The music and the atmosphere it creates is god-like as well (I'm using Nothing Ear (2024) TWS Earbuds) with some modernized old songs here and there, and even if it's just a few bits and sounds in places, it's more than enough to make you feel uneasy, uncomfortable, create a sense of dread and danger.

Had to go on a trip the day it came out, so I'm just joining the party. Made it to the Woodside Apartments and absolutely loving it. I didn't expect the experience to feel so "new". I just have one minor complaint:

All these jumpscares are fucking bullshit. This isn't RE goddammit 😢 (yes, I'm shook).

As long as their games continueto be mod friendly, I'd be more than happy if Blooper Team were ro remake the rest of the series.

Trying not to read anything cause I forgot mostly everything about this game since I played it more than 20 years ago.

I love it, like I remember loving it on the PS2, but I need to say this: the visuals suck, it looks like a PS4 game with some improvements on textures here and there, this is not detrimental to my enjoyment, it’s just that I would have like Konami to give this the RE2R/RE3R/RE4R treatment…

I guess they just don’t care or don’t have the money. Anyway, I’m glad they made it.
