Sony Pictures Core, formerly Bravia Core, launches on PS5 and PS4 consoles

Thanks OP. Great bit of news for me personally. It might seem a bit niche. But Bravia Core is some of, if not the best quality streaming I've ever seen. In high bit Pure Stream mode it starts to equate to UHD 4k Blu Ray discs in quality. Luckily I've already got over 10 movies bought from free tokens that came with my Z9J, which I've just tried on the PS5 app and they've all transferred across. Thumbs up from moi

im about to get rid of netflix and disney plus cause they charge ridiculous amounts for the lack of quality content or content in general so this is nice to have added to my premium PSplus i already use.

I currently have PS+ Premium, somewhat accidentally. I got Extra to play Stray (it was cheaper than buying the game), then later on upgraded to Premium (again, it wasn't much for the rest of the year), and then forgot to downgrade before the annual renew, so I'm stuck with it until next March. As far as image quality goes,

borat-borat-very-nice.gif

with a few examples I tried, but whet it comes to the "free" selection for PS+ users, one can't help but to notice that most of what Sony Pictures puts out is pretty much shit. Oh well, something of a bonus for six months I guess.

Note that this isn't the only additional perk coming to Plus Premium subscribers. We know PS5 game streaming is coming soon as it's being beta tested by the public, and we know that the ability to stream select digitally owned games will be coming as well.

We'll have to wait for the official announcement of this new cloud push to fully learn what extras will come to Premium subscribers. We'll see if any additional perks get announced for Essential/Extra subscribers

This is daft.

These movies are all Sony content. It costs them nothing to include it in PSN+.

The price increase was a direct result of increased competition from MS in getting deals for gaming content. MS pays top dollar for content for GP, so it only makes sense that since Sony is competing with them for those deals, the dollar value of those deals will go up and therefore the cost of PSN+ for Sony will go up... clearly they'll pass that cost increase to the customer.

The more subscription services there are vying for exclusive content deals with third parties, the higher the costs of those services will be.
This was a significant price increase and the added value is very much subjective. They're forcing you to subscribe to their movie service on a machine that you bought to play games. It's not like you can play online without psplus.
So now some people are paying 30% more for another movie subscription service that they don't want.

Sony: "We're increasing the price of every tier of PS+ across the globe. Don't fret however as we are now allowing you to stream movies you never asked for as part of your gaming subscription."

Context matters.

They didn't announce this at the reveal event for the PS5. It's a blog post that announces more value for existing PS+ higher tier subscribers.

Nothing justifies the price hike though. Just shitty Jimbo greedy things.
For the consumer, isn't it better to be told upfront what you can expect from the device you are spending money on rather than have stuff like this thrown at you midway through the lifespan of the device?

So this is where the 33% PS sub plan price increase went to.

Nothing like a price increase so everyone can hurry up and watch Blue thunder and Run Lola Run.

They could at least offered the movies for Essential tier too since they got a price increase too.

Got a decent 2022 Sony tv, never heard of Sony Pictures Core/Bravia Core. Maybe they should market it more at least on their own tvs.
I'm not sure about 2022 TV's, but I was made well aware of it on my 2021 Z9J - that may well have been due to it being master series though. As some of the push at the time was tiered based on the specific TV.

This was a significant price increase and the added value is very much subjective.

Subscription price increases never come with an increase in value. It's just an increase in the cost of the sub.

Netflix doesn't increase value when they push the prices up. Neither does GamePass. Not sure why you expect that from PS+.

Prices of things go up over time. Shock horror!!! I know, rite!!

They're forcing you to subscribe to their movie service on a machine that you bought to play games. It's not like you can play online without psplus.
So now some people are paying 30% more for another movie subscription service that they don't want.

No... they're throwing in some free movies to sweeten the BS that was a 30% price increase. The 30% increase had nothing to do with the addition of movies though. That's where you're conflating things.

You are (for some super weird reason) assuming this was planned 4 years ago. Why? Plans literally change every day within corporations.

What model?

Decent may be relative, since it's the processor inside which is able to stream and decode the feed. If yours is one of the OLEDs/QD-OLEDs or top tier LEDs, sure, they could advertise it more, but if it's not one of those, I doubt they put something inside with enough ooomph to show UHD streaming.

Yeah, I know with mine I got something with the TV itself mentioning it. And also there was something about it OS side when I first set up the TV. Put it this way, at the time, as soon as I set up the TV, I was busy registering with the app to get the 10+ free tokens that came with the TV. I wouldn't expect anyone to know much about it though unless they had the appropriate TV. It always seemed like a short term, very niche focused service just to enhance the Bravia TV experience. Which is why for me its great to see it evolving into a PS5 app too.

Some decent stuff, but mostly meh.

Hopefully the crunchyroll stuff is decent.

This doesn't sound all that bad cosidering I'm already a Premium subscriber. I'll see what 100 movies are in that catalogue before passing any kind of judgement. If it's properly curated with some high quality stuff it will be tempting to just stay subscribed to the Premium tier. I guess that'd be one way to make that tier more worthwhile than it currently is.

Price increases for a subscription service are not something a company anticipates years or even quarters in advance? Hell, there are people on this forum that would argue that Microsoft has planned GamePass price increases since its inception.

Currently watching District 9 and will probably watch Django later. Nice little bonus for my Premium sub.

It looks like they'll be integrating the ps stars rewards into this.

The price increases is from inflation and these services largely failing. At least Playstation is adding some value as the price increased. That's more than others are doing.

Playstation is also like the only one that does really good sales on their annual memberships, so no one should be paying the full price.

Hellblade 2 OT is gonna be FUN

Hey Frank, you mean that all of those that keep saying "sad dad of war", "depression simulator" and "Sony 3rd person template lol" are the same ones that are gonna wax lyrical about Hellblade 2 'cause ...Papa-Phil is the greatest with the best deal in gaming ?

That kinda fun you mean ? 😁

Anyway : is this available on PS plus extra gents or only Premium ?

some of you never have recovered from the backlash the Xbox One reveal got have you?

there’s a difference between a perk added later and the seeming focus of the console launch 🙄
So it's better getting this feature now rather than 3 years ago.

Maybe delay it another year just to make it even more amazing.

Not a great lineup, but it's not a bad thing if you have a few years of Premium stacked. It would take a lot more than this to convince me to upgrade to Premium though, even before the price increase. I see Sony adding some older Spiderman movies in the future to coincide with the launch of Spiderman 2.

I think Sony will still retain the Crunchyroll brand and keep it separate, but now I wonder if they will bring a big hit or two to Sony Pictures Core to entice Premium members to add a CR sub.

Premium is such a worthless bed shitter tier they decided they need to bring some real bed shitters into the fold. Surely this will justify $159.99/year!

I love how badly that PS5 was photoshopped onto that image.

I'm surprised Sony hasn't fully integrated all of their stuff.
