Okay, zeitgiest/microcosm guy here. I'm exceedingly ordinary in my gaming habits. I'm middle bear for goldilocks. Usually the shit I do is seen in the larger gaming populace soon after I do it.
I want to remove the woke from the argument. I think the game will probably be woke, but not 110% sure yet, but probably. Let's ignore that for just this post.
I've recently had a revelation after a decade of regularly buying indie darlings.
Usually, I buy the game, play it once or twice and never pick it up again. There have been a few notable exceptions, Wukong(not really an indie), Inscryption being the standout, the Outer Wilds another one. Hollow Knight the best eva. Baba Is You, Hades, Underwell, Celeste, Obra Djinn, Balatro, Vampire Survivors, Stardew, Disco, ect all great, and many more.
Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed my time with Dave the Diver, I was a Teenage Exocolonist, Spiritfarer, TMNT, Chained Echos, Braid Remake, Slay the Princess, ect but here's the thing. I think I'm done. I don't play these games enough to continue to buy them and I don't have time. As I go, usually, so goes all. So we'll see how indies hold up the next few years. From here on out it needs to be Lucas Pope or AAAAmazing indie to wake me up from my AAA stupor. It needs to be special like Wukong, stick figures ain't cutting it for me anymore, and I'm coming around to the idea that creating games is a trade not an art.
