Spring Anime 2015 |OT| The Disappearance of YEAARRT!

A real heartwarming episode after the last stressful and emotional episodes. It's nice seeing the main trio together again and interacting in such a friendly manner. Yukino's constant pursuit of cute things and Yui's adorable clinging brightened the darkness that has been present for a quite a while this season. I'm surprised at how well Hachiman seemed to actual naturally around them. The thing I was most shocked about however, was Iroha's sudden confession to Hayama but his rejection didn't shock me too much considering I think
he has a crush on Yukino
. The next episode will probably be about Iroha not committing to her job anymore mirroring last season's final arc in a way.

After thinking about it for a while, I can't say which conversation Hachiman, one with Yui and one with Yukino, that I liked better. They touch on separate sides of Hikigiya's personality. Yui tends to be closer to Hikki's shy nature and "friendly" character, and the callbacks to season 1 seems to imply that sooner or later he most likely will act for someone heart which now more than ever seems like Yui. Hikigiya's conversation with Yukino however seemed to imply a respect that has blossomed into a friendship. Yukino's statement for Hikki to help her someday and her talk about her wanting something different from him and her sister implies that her understanding of both herself and others has grown. She realizes that she has been inspired by both her sister and Hikki to be someone but she knows that it's to be a different person and not simply mimicking another.

Great points about how each of the girls touch a different part of Hachiman's personality.
I loved that interaction between Yui and Hachiman and it really feels like those two will go on a real date like they sorta discussed in S1. That "someday" seemed to imply he was in the same wavelength as her during that conversation. On the other hand, Yukino's request to help her someday sounded similar to S1 when she reached out to Yui. Like they're becoming closer friends and that she would rely on him more.

Nice episode. Yui and Yukino set up all the right flags with Hachiman to further the romance aspect of the story. Impressions:
- I think most people mope around when they say embarassing things so you're not alone in that Hachiman.
-
That stare on the plastic. I don't think the two are jealous but I can't think of any reason why they'd stare so much.
-
Yui asserts herself by making Hachiman remember about his promise. When will this ever happen?
-
Yukino asking for help and revealing that she wants something different. Still no clue what that thing is.
Iroha crying. Why does the best girl have to be sad?

I think that was
a call back to the comment she made earlier about likening the experience to being drawn to the Yuki-onna despite the risk of losing one's life. She's fine with being mesmerised by the Yuki-onna
.

I think my initial comment was a little confusing. I meant that those are points in favour of
there being an attraction between the two
. Apologies. I do wonder what is going on with my English at times.

Ah gotcha.

I hope that guy will die because of his harem in the last episode, preferably in the cruellest imaginable way. A resounding thematic answer to the question in title.

Two cannibals are eating a clown. One turns to the other and says "does something taste funny to you?"
All KyoAni is trying to do is clearly cater to an audience. That, or they think girls go around feeling each other's faces the way they did in the show lol.

I mean, studios pander all the time to specific audiences, which is why it gets that label. The issue with yuri-pandering is that studios keep producing shows where canonically straight females (see: Euphonium) have female-female relationships with heavy sexual elements where that very rarely happens to two dudes. If Euphonium was entirely about guys, I don't think you'd see them feeling each others lips.

I don't think most normal people would have an issue with an anime showing a normal lesbian or gay relationship. Like, at all.

DIO'S WORLD PART 1

This is being done at a pretty fast rate, I think they did 5 or so chapters in this episode, the ending to last week's episode was the first chapter of DIO's World. Tons of scenes from the OP in this episode, I hope people will be able to notice the extremely subtle things DP threw in there now.

RNYnJI1.gif

I never actually noticed it shifted to stairs and Polnareff moves down them, thanks EmCeeGramr

Really the actual fight doesn't start until next episode, but this first one is a great reason to show why this is an amazing ending. We haven't seen DIO for more then about 5 minutes. He's finally here, we've seen his full face and body. And what's the first thing he does? He does the most dickish things possible, complimented by his Stand's ability that multiplies his dickishness to levels unthought of before. He is literally trolling people. He puts the most effort into making it look like he is putting effort into nothing. Also I am loving seeing peoples guesses to what The World does, as it's not clear at all but you can tell it's something more powerful then anything before it by an ocean's length. This would be the standard going forward, as until The World it was kind of obvious what each Stand did when it showed up. Stand battles after Part 3 typically follow this kind of "What's the mystery" approach to battles and powers, which would later be adopted by tons of other Shonen (Hunter x Hunter, One Piece, Bleach) and would really change what regular Shonen fights were before from the Hokuto no Ken and Dragon Ball methods of signature moves and long power struggles into more of a mixture of both, unless you are Naruto and lol Naruto

Maybe it's just me but I actually thought DIO's face looked a bit off in some scenes, but better then that (fake?) leak where he just had Kakyoin's face. Araki WAS super good at giving characters different and defined faces, but by Part 7 he has fallen into a rather extreme case of same face syndrome (insert Part 7 volume cover where a 19 year old man, a 24 year old man and a 14 year old girl all have the same face.) DP has generally done a good job on following through with that.

I am rather sad they cut the scene where it shoes all the people getting run over and you can see Waldo in the background since it's an obvious jab at "Za Waldo!" I hope they put it back in in the Blu-rays, since this is one of the few scenes they straight up cut. I dunno if they had to take it out or they decided they didn't want to censor it and ruin it but I'm still kinda sad it's not there.

As to the way they handled showing but not "showing" DIO's power it was good. But I think the OVA did something way cooler when he was messing with the Senator. It's rather hard to show a power that you aren't actually able to observe, and DP did a pretty good job of doing that, but in the OVA you got this super cool scene -

eYbepLR.gif

Which I thought was better then what DP did.

Going forward I am super excited to see how DP does the rest, as we now have about 2-3 iconic moments per episode. We had 3 here - Polnareff on the stairs, The coffin trick and DIO in the car with the Senator.

The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan episode 1 dub

Nice to see the old cast back. Ms. Ruff had to change her Yuki voice sightly to accommodate Yuki's different personality.

And here's where you lost me.

Where did you get the sentiment that they were canonically straight? Because the anime doesn't even begin to convey that, like at all. If you're possibly referring to the source material well... it should be obvious by now that that the novel = / = anime. It's important to remember that it's an adaptation of the source material. They aren't the same thing, and it was never supposed to be that way.

I'm not naive enough to think that they'll end up together in the end, but at the same time, this goes way beyond regular yuri baiting. There's a blatant, mutual attraction between the 2 characters.

Okay, even if we go by the assumption that the source material is being ignored, its hardly the first anime to do that.

This adaptation isn't disappointing me, considering I'm fairly prickly with manga-to-anime changes.

I see Shaft took full advantage of the opportunity to homage/reuse some shots from Madoka. Kosaki's outfit even bears more than a superficial resemblance to Madoka's. I know Chitoge's school uniform is the Evangelion one, but I can't place where Marika's school uniform hails from. Any help on this?

DanMachi 09

I suppose he's no longer an underdog, but I do wonder how long this state of affairs can continue on.

Disappearance of Yuki Nagato 09

Next week's title is a clear homage to the final episode of the first batch of Haruhi episodes, and given that ending... something big is brewing for Yuki. I'm curious now, what is this show going to do?

Yeah, the female character who likes girls -- either by yuribait with the other girls, or by groping the other girls, or by being a hentai artist who draws hentai that focuses on girls (ie not BL or such) -- but is totally straight and loves the male MC -- is a super-common trope, and I agree that it's stupid. The basic concept makes no logical sense. It's just there as pure fanservice. Not all of this kind of fanservice is equally bad, but the concept is completely stupid and does not work.

The reason for it is obvious, though -- the girl has yuribait moments, draws hentai focusing on girls, etc. because the male audience likes such things, but she's also straight and likes the MC because she needs to be available as a waifu / romantic option for guys and a real lesbian wouldn't really be that. So the reason makes sense, it's just not a good reason. Trying to cover all bases like that doesn't work.

Unfortunately. Which is why I'm gonna be pissed if Kyoani doesn't have the guts to go with it all the way through.

If the excuse is "but those girls are bi!", then there are thousands of times more bisexual women in anime than in reality, that's for sure, to an incredibly convenient degree for the fanservice. :p

Soma 09

Well, that's a first. I liked Soma and Erina humming the ED at the end but then it transitioned into the real ED playing the second verse. Never seen that before.
