Wadium, the timeline in the OP will need to be updated a bit. The Leia comic just came out and it takes place immediately after the final scene of ANH so it comes before Star Wars issue #1.

Discontinued likely to keep the focus on the actual canonical The Clone Wars tv series which at least was far better anyway. And I say this as someone who really liked the 2003 series.

If you haven't seen it do yourself a favor and watch it.

Ah, my mistake. I've updated it.

Anyone read Leia #1 yet? I don't get my copy until tomorrow.

I read it, Mark Waid gets Leia perfectly. I know the art is love it or hate it but I think it works really well.

I need to get this.

After reading the Star Wars #1 or 2, I didn't really like the fact that Vader and Luke had a fight already. Just seemed unnecessary.

I wasn't aware that novels are part of the official cannon? I thought the only thing cannon was Episodes 1-6, and Clone Wars?

If so, I have a LOT of catching up to do before Ep. VII. Love the comic series done so far though.

Nope, all books and comics released since April 25th 2014 are canon now. A New Dawn, Tarkin and Heir to the Jedi are the novels released so far. Lords of the Sith is out next month.

I loved me some Star Wars. I saw the OT when I was about 6 years old and they literally changed my life.

I'm so excited for the new film. It's sad, but I sometimes genuinely worry that I'll die in a car accident or something before I can see it.

I really enjoyed Star Wars #1 and 2 though I thought Vader's dialogue was a bit iffy at times. Leia #1 was good fun but I'd say it's the least essential of the three from what I've read so far. Vader's definitely my favourite at the moment.

The Tarkin and A New Dawn novels had to have been largely written before the announcement regarding the EU. Did the authors have to go back and revise things to make them work in the new canon or were they told about it well in advance?

John Jackson Miller said he knew A New Dawn was going to be part of the new canon before he begun writing it and took that into consideration. He just didn't know it was going to be the first novel released in the new canon.

I've read all of the new Marvel SW comics so far and I agree with your assessments. But I'll be keeping up with the Leia book because they look to be going to some interesting places, in a literal sense.

For someone who only cares about Vader though, I think it would be a mistake to pick up the Vader series and not buy the Star Wars ongoing because he's in both. He could show up in Leia too. Although I hope he doesn't because I really don't want Vader to be the Wolverine of the SW comicverse where he's literally everywhere :p

Regarding dialog... I feel the same way but I always give comics a bit more wiggle room with stuff like that. With films or novels the writers are agonizing over every line and they have lots of time to do it. With comics we're talking a very different schedule and the writers probably can't dedicate the same effort to it. That, and a lot of times comic writers are, to be honest, not on the same level from a creative standpoint. I love comics but that's just my take on it.

I don't think Vader will turn up in Leia's series but you never know. And you're right about the dialogue. It was fine for the most part but I thought Gillen did it a little better in Vader.

My favorite next to Empire and A New Hope. But I really like the others as well. I never bought Return of the Jedi as an overall conclusion of this huge saga; it finishes well, but it just wasn't strong enough to me as the concluding episode. But now that the new trilogy has been announced, I feel like I can finally just get over it and love it as it no longer carries that kind of weight. It works as the end of Anakin's story loop but I'm glad it's no longer the actual final episode.

Anyone else really impressed with www.starwars.com ?

Not only is it beautiful and very functional, but it has content for days. So many clips and articles with high-res photos. As a Star Wars fan, you really have no excuse for boredom. :)

AND I just noticed that they have a commenting system now, cool. It requires facebook though. Generally commenting systems can be frustrating, but in close-knit communities like this you can find a lot of insight in what people have to say.

I'm crossing my fingers that they will launch a making-of series for Episode VII sometime later this year. Maybe after SDCC? During the era of the prequels, starwars.com would post little videos or photos for months and months leading up to the release of the films. I really hope they start to open the floodgates soon. The ultra high levels of secrecy is starting to become hard to deal with. I think people would stop paying so much attention to all of these rumor sites if they'd feed us something once in a while.

Agreed, it's pretty exciting. I grew up with Star Wars during the prequel era (was introduced to the original trilogy at that same time), so I went through the whole process of saying goodbye to Star Wars back in 2005-06 after Revenge of the Sith. I've watched a bit of Clone Wars and Rebels since then but it's not the same (though Rebels has been pretty good so far, and what little of the latter seasons of TCW that I've seen were too). It'll be crazy when the new movie comes out, though. I have some reservations, but it's hard not to be at least a little excited at the mere thought.

Cecil Castellucci (author of Tin Star) will write Moving Target, an adventure following Princess Leia; Jason Fry, who earlier wrote Darth Maul: Shadow Conspiracy, will be the author of The Weapon of a Jedi, about Luke Skywalker; Claudia Gray, author of the Evernight series of fantasy books, will write a book titled Lost Stars; and Greg Rucka, a comic book scribe and writer of the Atticus Kodiak novels, will pen Smuggler’s Run, a Han Solo tale.

Some of the dialogue in those scenes are awful. I'm not sure how much of a hand Lucas had in writing Empire, but his trademark woeful dialogue seems to be present.

On finding out Han Solo has been frozen in Carbonite and taken to Jabba the Hutt by deadly bounty hunter Boba Fett: "Poor Han."

It was also lucky that alot of the romance scenes between Luke and Leia were removed. She kisses him on the lips in one of he deleted scenes, and in another he's lamenting that he thought he'd never have a chance to tell her how he really feels about her.

I wonder if they kept those scenes in, would they have scrapped the whole sister aspect? They JUST about got away with it without them, although it was still pretty weird.

I was never really on board with the whole brother/sister thing. Makes ANH retroactively pretty awkward.
In that RotJ deleted takeoff scene, don't Luke and Leia have another smooch? So late in the game and still getting filmed. What was going on?

By that time, they had already hinted at it in TESB, right? I assume by the time of ROTJ it had already been long decided that they were siblings so why is he still writing tender kisses into the script? Is Lucas someone I need to wonder about, or what?

Exciting times. It'll be interesting to see who's writing the film's novelisation. A lot of people reckon it'll be Matthew Stover after he did a good job with the Revenge of the Sith one.

As a Lego fan also, I'm going to be so broke. All those new Force Awakens Lego sets on top of all the other Star Wars merch. I've already warned my wife and given her a way out if I go bankrupt. :)

I haven't actually bought any Star Wars Lego since Anakin's Jedi Starfighter from Revenge of the Sith. Hopefully there won't be anything to tempt me back.

I remember my Dad hunting down the Obi-Wan and Boga set for Christmas once as well. I was eleven at the time - can't believe that was ten years ago.

You're making me feel old now. :)

I only buy the original trilogy Lego sets and this year they are releasing the Imperial Shuttle that I need to get. Then when the release the Force Awakens sets in September, I know I'm going to have to get them.

As someone who buys all of the LEGO Star Wars sets, I feel your pain.

Between that, the X-Wing Miniatures game, Star Wars Armada, the upcoming videogames, and these upcoming books, I think something will have to give. And I'm thinking it will be much of the non-SW parts of my hobbies (ie other LEGO sets/themes).

I noticed you've recently gotten into the X-Wing miniatures game. It's a slippery slope. I've managed to survive with just 1 base game and a couple of the smaller ships. :)

Well thankfully I have nobody to play X-Wing with or I'd be all over that too. :) The ships look great!!! I've been tempted to buy the Falcon simply because it's a nice display piece.

Yeah it's going to be one of those years... SW is taking over my life again, just like in 1999. Only... in 1999 LEGO SW was only just ramping up and it wasn't on my radar until many years later... I'm glad for that, because some of those earlier sets just don't look good. They started getting good in the later part of the 2000s, IMO.

While I didn't start getting into LEGO until 2012 (not counting my childhood :p), I loved playing the LEGO star wars games. They were a lot of fun to co-op with friends.
