Star Wars |OT| I have a very good feeling about this...

Being born in the 80s and growing up with a brother 4 years older, Star Wars has been in my life since birth. I'm slowly and surely brainwashing my son into loving Star Wars too, he's 4 at the moment. With Star Wars returning in a big way I couldn't be happier. Let's just hope the movies are enjoyable. 
This reminds me of The Road To Wrestlemania and I'm ok with that. I'll probably read everything that isn't aimed at young children.
What I read or don't read depends entirely on the timeframe of the stories.
I'm kinda tired of all these books and comics that take place during the OT era, such as in-between episodes IV and V. It's interesting, but not exciting.
I want more post-RotJ content and this better deliver on that.

They didn't think about it till ROTJ. It was basically an easy out for any kind of love triangle.
They had no idea who the "other" in Empire was.
My local comic shop still has quite a few of them in stock especially the alt covers. Its a pretty well-known place in the area too so its not a case of nobody buying them. Jason Aaron even stopped by back when #1 released to sign copies. I think a lot of these places knew it was going to be big and just bought a lot of overstock.You were still able to find them on shelves? Impressive

Enjoy. Hopefully you like them and then you might go check out some other books. Comics are rad dude.
Glad you dug it. My favorite is definitely the RotJ scene of Luke putting together his saber, and the ANH stuff with Luke before he meets Obi Wan.

i totally need to watch those deleted scenes. I don't even have the blurays. Some fan I am.
I remember listening to these when I was younger:
They had some great extra stuff that aren't in the movies, like Luke and his friends racing.
I finished reading Star Wars 001 last night. I really enjoyed it, I really took my time with it and labored over every frame, taking in all the details. I voiced the dialogue in my mind how I thought the actors would deliver it and I feel like they captured the dialogue and banter really well. It was just so short though! Probably only 5 minutes of screen time if it was a movie.

I finished Heir to the Jedi last night. First off, without spoiling anything, I think the author nailed Luke's tone and delivery and all that jazz. It felt like I was reading Luke's inner monologue, which was fantastic. The book itself was written pretty well. There were a few moments and writing decisions that I did not agree with, but for the most part it was technically sound.
On to the story,
Overall, I thought it was okay. Right now my ranking is Tarkin > A New Dawn > Heir to the Jedi. HttJ is a solid 3/5 for me.
On to the story,
not good. The first half seemed like a collection of short stories featuring Luke. Sure, they were connected by haphazard reasoning, "Go here, which leads to going here, which leads to doing this," and blah blah blah. It was just a little jumpy. I will say the moon planet with the invisible brain suckers was an interesting twist that I did not see coming that nearly turned the book's genre into something like horror for a little bit there. It was an enjoyable surprise.
His relationship with Nakari was a fun one, and to see it develop over the course of the book was pretty good. However, the way she died, how it was written? Yuck. It was a great choice to have Luke feel it through the Force rather than actually see her die - Jedi growth and all that - but the way it was actually presented in the story felt very lackluster and just not up to snuff.
His Jedi development itself was handled okay, but for the most part he accomplished little. Sure, he moved a noodle. Then he moved a noodle alot. Then he moved a fork. Then he ate noodles with a fork. I mean, that's all well and good and everything, and I know most of his Jedi development happens between V and VI rather than IV and V, but I was underwhelmed by what he accomplished.

I remember the ANH show depicted the interrogation (torture?) scene with Leia. Was always curious if they actually filmed it.

I think calling Looper a "modern classic" is a little gracious. I know a bunch of people liked it but somehow I doubt people will be showing it to their kids in 30 years.
The only thing I've watched from Johnson that he both wrote and directed was Looper, which I could not enjoy because it was a movie that acted cleverer than it was and lacked internal consistency. I'd be more comfortable with either him writing and someone else directing, or him directing with someone else writing. Just throwing someone else into the mix with him so the movie doesnt develop Lucas-prequelitis.
However, those of you who have seen his other write/direct movies might have a more educated opinion about him.

I don't. I think it will definitely be remembered as one of the best sci-fi films of its time. I mean, look at the competition... everytime people get psyched up about a new sci-fi film it often turns out to be lackluster. Prometheus, Matrix Sequels, I Am Legend (yeah, I went there), Elysium, Chappie, Jupiter Ascending, need I go on? Looper delivered and had a lot of originality to it. The entire farm sequence was way different from anything I thought I'd see in it from the trailers, and it was one of the better parts too.
Wasn't Rian already suspected to be doing Episode VIII though AS WELL as IX? guess today's announcement just finalized everything (VIII, anyway), but it's already been on the table.

If the tight leash on Marvel films is any indication, will it even matter who directs future Star Wars installments?
Do you want episode VIII and/or Rogue One to be "Thor: The Dark World" or "Captain America: Winter Soldier" because there is a qualitative difference there, you know.
So far marvel has been able to keep a certain threshold of quality, and I do hope Star Wars can repeat that...

I look forward to it with great anticipation... I'm sure if it's a straight up X-Wing film then the hardcore fans of that kind of thing are going to be tripping over themselves hardcore.
I kinda hope it's a bit more varied than that. The rumors of a bounty hunter centric film had me really intrigued. Anyway, really excited to learn more.
At the end of the day, if Disney wants to make a SW film every year for eternity, they have a ton of ground and genres to cover, so if it's basically Top Gun meets Star Wars then so be it!

I hope so. A rogue squadron movie would be fantastic. My favourite shot in the Force Awakens trailer was the 3 X-Wings flying in formation across a lake. A whole movie with those sort of shots would be awesome.

I'm so glad we'll be getting Star Wars movies that aren't focused on Force users. I'm sure I am in the miniority, but I've always liked the non-Jedi/Sith aspects of the Star Wars universe much more. Even as a kid my go scenario with my action figures was Han and Chewie in the Falcon trying to get away from the 4-5 bounty hunter figures I owned. Good times.

I don't think you're the only one, that's exactly what the spin off movies should be about. the star wars universe offers so much more than the eternal struggle between good and evil, potentially. I really like the way disney is handling this, drown is in star wars stuff, pilots, bounty hunters, everything.

I wouldn't say you are in the minority at all. I definitely want to see other areas in the Star Wars universe explored more in the spin-offs.
I'm loving all these new Star Wars movies coming out, but I'm worried that it'll become over saturated an lose its magic.
I absolutely fell in love with Star Wars as a kid and it's been a huge part of who I am for all my life. Now, every few years on my birthday, I watch the original trilogy back to back and I feel like a kid again. It's like reuniting with long lost friends and I'm revisiting this amazing fantasy land that enraptured me so as a child.
I'm worried that with all these new films, games, comics, books etc coming out it'll start to feel less special and more of just a part of every day life. When I tell people I like Star Wars, people generally understand that I mean the three original movies. In my opinion, these films go above and beyond just great or even amazing movies, they manage to capture a feeling and a magic that isn't captured often and they resonate profoundly with certain people. Now, I have alot of faith that these new movies will be fantastic (I think Disney have spent too much money to release a bomb and the backlash would be catastrophic), but I just don't know if they can recapture the magic. So when I tell people I like Star Wars it'll be like "Oh, he likes those countless movies that are released every year and there's about 50 of them now and they're pretty good I guess." Anyone else understand, or am I being crazy?

The saturation has always been there, just not when it comes to the big screen. But looking at what the six movies has grossed, its a no brainer for Disney to line up staggered releases.
I'm actually excited to get 2 Star Wars movies in under a year. Especially now that we're dealing with an entirely new cannon after Ep VI.

I've thought of a better way to verbalise it: 10 years ago if you said you liked Marvel, it was very different to saying you liked Marvel today. Saying you liked Marvel 10 years ago meant you liked comics and super heroes etc, it was sort of niche and so it said something about your character. These days, saying you like Marvel just sounds like you like big, summer action movies like pretty much everyone else. It doesn't have as much meaning as before.
Anyway, I'm still super pumped for the new films. I really look forward to the day that I can sit down and show my kids Star Wars for the first time. I have worried though that it'll have aged too much in another decade for kids to appreciate it. With all these new ones coming out though, they might not enjoy the OT as much but maybe I can get them hooked on the new films!

Kathy Kennedy leads Lucasfilm, she is their Kevin Feige. She is a lot more used to giving directors leeway and artistic control. The majority of her career was being Spielberg's producer for the films he directed. Abrams successfully got them to delay the movie from May to December afterall.

Richard Bonehill has died aged 67.
The actor played a number of different character extras in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, most notably the alien Nien Nunb and a number of different Storm Troopers.

By the way, the day the floodgates open is September 4th. That's the release date for a lot of the pre-TFA merchandise, including the books, comics and toys.

speaking of cards those Topps masterwork Star Wars cards are really nice... but I'm already collecting enough stuff, can't really add trading cards to the mix. Though I'd be game for a new CCG.
