Switch 'Welcome' will cost $10, explanation why not free

Then came the Switch, BAREBONE AS FUCK and nobody said anything? Not only that but NOTHING new came during all of its lifetime. Not even an internet browser. My freaking PLAYDATE has more features than a switch.
Not only people did not say anything, they praised Nintendo because the System UI was not as slow as molasses despite the greater CPU grunt and much more RAM available for it.

So, Nintendo feels emboldened to try to extract more money from those screaming “more of this please”.

If it's not a full game, and it's not a toss in 'demo', why make it at all? Who is it for?

Nintendo feels incredibly out of touch with this. LIke there is a place for small low priced games, and they can even come from big studios, but I think everyone agrees this just seems more like a system demo. Like the PS vitas Welcome Park, this should just be a free demo to show off the console. If they feel it should be something more, they should've done a better job at making it feel like something more to customers.

I should have wrote that I feel like nobody said anything. Slow OS because of underwhelming hardware is such difficult pill to swallow when you look at the 3DS and PSvita, being much weaker and still having so many features packed in.

On Switch, I hardly can believe the BEST thing they could come up with, is colored lines on black or white background and nothing more. An ipod touch first generation have sleeker UI design. That's not right to me. There certainly something I must be missing?

Sony taking notes

Spying I Hear You GIF by NOW WE'RE TALKING TV SERIES'RE TALKING TV SERIES

Sony has done that for 3 gens already, offering for free a game that does the same but infinitely better.

I remember buying an NES and getting Super Mario Bros. included, buying a SNES and getting Super Mario World included, buying a Game Boy and getting Tetris included, buying a Wii and getting Wii Sports included. The Nintendo of today is not the Nintendo of my youth.
There are free games in eShop, that was impossible in your youth.

I meant people did not say much, most praised Nintendo for doing the only possible thing to make the UI feel smooth on much more powerful HW and with more dedicated RAM: gut the UI and remove any flair… 😂 sigh…

I guess $10 is fine, but honestly it really could've been free. It should've been.

I mean, Sony could've charged $10 for Astro's Playroom, but they didn't, it was free. It feels like a nice gesture towards your buyers/players.

Therefore Sony lost potential $800000000 by gifting the game instead of selling it.

Do you want Nintendo to lose $800000000 as well?

Yea this is one of those things Nintendo should prob backtrack on. It's basically a glorified tech demo; a neat one, but in many ways so was Astro's Playroom and SIE made that a free bundle in every PS5.

Especially considering the likely price changes they make due to tariffs, Welcome Tour being a free pack-in just makes even more sense. And that way, with the MK bundle now you get two games instead of one.

Just do the right thing, Nintendo.

$10 is nothing. Looking forward to checking it out.

The price for Welcome Tour isn't the issue. It's the price in relation & context to everything else around the system pricing-wise, from the hardware to physical games to Game Key cards to digital game pricing etc.

It's a lot of compounding factors and making a game that should probably be a free bundle of a tech demo a $10 paid product, just looks very bad in terms of optics. Now, whether that actually impacts them in a way which ultimately matters (sales), we'd have to wait and see.

Or maybe Nintendo has data showing it won't have much an impact. If the data says otherwise (or if they're just feeling a bit nervous), then they'll make some changes.

Yeah, that's not a great reason.

If Sony had charged $10 for Astro's Playroom, that would have been fine. But, they didn't. Charging for this is a bad look.
Isn't it a first (!) party game, that people normally buy Nintendo consoles for?

This is really the strategy of cutting product in smaller parts, all sold at a low price.
The consumer thinks the price didn’t increase, but it did.
They are doing this with DLC, they are now expanding this to the OS.

Soon, please buy the option to use a second controller, the option to watch video….

If MS can add another 256meg to the 360 console which cost a lot! How much did this cost to create.

People worked on this game. The work has to be paid by someone.

You pay $450 other people, who worked on the console, not the game.

This is budget for 15-20 Nintendo exclusives!
Why do you deprive us of these games?

Does Nintendo pay this well to post on GAF?

Sony charged full price for a demo and people bent over backwwards. Now cry cause Nintendo is charging $10 for this, lol.

Good thing is that you can choose not to buy this and be done with it. Vote with your wallet.

Nintendo keeps making L decisions. Look, this game is one of two things

1) a tech demo, in which case it should be free

2) an actual decent game which is fair to charge maybe not full price, but somewhere along a middle range of $30 or $40

The fact they are going through $10 route leads me to believe this should have been a tech demo pack in but are trying to nickel and dime people on stupid shit.

I don't want to see Nintendo fail, but I hope they get humbled a good bit here and a lot of their pricing just completely bombs where they need to change course.

Eh, okay. $10 is fine. I was expecting them to charge $30.

Should have been free, though.

If anyone wonders why nintendo would do this I have several reasons. They know their fans are fools who would sacrifice their first born for them. I don't blame them, when you have fans like this, get that money.

As humans we should all band together and decide that only one person should buy this and then make a 1 hour long YouTube video and show everything, I will do that by the way and take the hit for the whole ass team

I’d say there’s at least 50% chance Nintendo reverses decision on this by launch day.

This product really only has value as a free pack-in, because so few are gonna care enough about a digital tour of the device with some basic mini-games.

Who cares about the "reasons" they charged for it? In the end it's such a small amount that and it costed them so much in bad PR that they would be better just leaving the thing for free from the very beginning

You say this like 100% of people would have bought Astro, which is not the case. This also ignores the fact that even more than VR, Playroom led to Astro Bot which was a GOTY winner last year.

Pack-ins exist for a reason, like I assume this shows off the mouse functionality, maybe people dont know it exists, once they try it, they are more likely to buy Civ 7 or whatever. A tailored experience and polished introduction for new players is a good idea. Honestly I am totally confused by Nintendo's decision here, it makes NO sense.
