Switch 'Welcome' will cost $10, explanation why not free

It's a fucking cutesy digital manual with mini games that should be included on the system at no charge. There is no way in hell am I paying for that. I could look past it if it was included as part of your NSO subscription, but they couldn't even do that.
Yeah, I can imagine this "game" is also just a cutesy interface over what's basically an SDK demo they'd provide developers

IGN can now confirm that Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour costs $9.99 and is a digital-only product. That’s significantly cheaper than other Switch 2 games, but IGN has already reported to the complaints from some Nintendo fans that Welcome Tour costs money at all, with many saying it should be Switch 2 pack-in.

“For some people, I think there are people who are particularly interested in the tech and the specs of the system and things like that, for them I think it's going to be a great product. It's really for people that want more information about the system rather than necessarily a quick intro to everything it does.

"And for that reason and just the amount of care and work that the team put into it, I think it was decided that, 'Yeah, this feels like $9.99 is not an exorbitant price. It feels like a good value for what you're getting out of the product.' "
Shit reason reason, Astrobot was included for free with every PS5. No excuse charging for a tech demo. Fuck you Nintencucks

But the initial impressions of the game have not been very positive. Gaming YouTuber Jake Randall claimed that someone at the Switch 2 event in New York City “almost fell asleep” playing it, and compared it to an “instruction manual” with mini-games. Many fans online point toward Nintendo’s inclusion of Wii Sports with the Nintendo Wii for free in comparison, as well as the free Astro’s Playroom on PS5. The full gameplay video of Welcome Tour on the Nintendo of America account has 13,000 dislikes compared to only about 1,700 likes.

I'm a pretty big Nintendo fanboy and even I fail to see why they think this is a paid product. Literally everything about it screams pre-installed on the console, or at the very least a freebie for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. I'd love to have been at the meeting where they decided to charge for this.

And no, I won't be paying for it.

You say this like 100% of people would have bought Astro, which is not the case. This also ignores the fact that even more than VR, Playroom led to Astro Bot which was a GOTY winner last year.

Pack-ins exist for a reason, like I assume this shows off the mouse functionality, maybe people dont know it exists, once they try it, they are more likely to buy Civ 7 or whatever. A tailored experience and polished introduction for new players is a good idea. Honestly I am totally confused by Nintendo's decision here, it makes NO sense.
how does it make no sense to charge for a product?

Do you really think including this would lead to a GOTY winner?

Even then, I wouldn't bother downloading it and taking up space. Whoever said these new executives seem like Apple more than Nintendo is spot-on.

To be honest, if this was included on the system, or free for NSO users, I would at least take a look at it for a bit. I am sure there are some fascinating tidbits of info in there, and I think the cutesy presentation is appealing. Don't get me wrong, whether it came on the system for free, or I had to get off eShop as part of an NSO subscription, it's not something I would keep on the system for long and would want that space back. There is just no way I would pay for this.

Nintendo has been braindead with communication around the Switch 2. Why not have the free demo, and section it by features. At the end of each section have a screen that says "this is a game that makes good uae of this feature", and take people to the games page on the store to buy or pre-order.

The last time Nintendo included a pack-in... the console flopped hard.
if you are referring to the Wii U, that had a basic set with no game and a deluxe set with Nintendo Land as a bundle. So, similar to NS2, but MKW going to sell a lot more consoles than Nintendo Land did.

Good value? What the hell are you guys smoking at Nintendo? It is your job to sell us the system, so a software/interactive manual to showcase its functions is in your best interest to sell people on it. We don't owe you shit for something like that.

Lol. Anyways, this feels like something very easy to say 'I'm not spending money on that'. I'm not sure I would play it if it were free, but paying for it? Yeah, no.....

The tail wags the dog these days. How dare the consumer question anything.

It’s like those shills who make snarky comments about unimpressed opinions on a product yet they get said product for free.

I will buy it. I would agree that it should be included in the Switch, but 10€ for me is ok, it's not expensive, and I like to have a small experience like this day-one with my big Mario Kart game and other 3rd party games.

I just like it, so I will buy it.

The whole Switch 2 is a horrible value. Just pure overpriced and outdated proposition
Wrong. It's not outdated at all, and the price of the console is absolutely ok. Better deal than Steam Deck.

yeah i know. but the sku worth buying was the one with NIntendoland. And not just for the packin. But the greater storage and charging stand and forget what else. maybe even the color. And it was a permanent sku. I think the cheap sku might have been relatively hard to find.

this mk bundle just a standard mk bundle they have done a lot in the past.

Last I checked Astro's Playroom was free.
One game was free with a system, it doesn't mean that every other games like this will always be free with a system. It would be great, it was a good thing from Sony, but it will not always happen for all systems on the market (and not even PS consoles obviously).

So instead of creating good publicity and announcing this 'game' as a free pack in product during the direct, they're doubling down and going to sell you a manual for 10 dollars. And of course we got people defending it on here and praising nintendo for it only being 10 dollars lmaooo.

Please note that we don't praise any company, I even said that it should have been free in the console. But still, 10€, I am ok with it. I want to play the thing, so I will buy it. It's just as simple as that.

The only price people should be ok with it as is free. It's a manual that they're selling cause of corporate greed.
