Been playing on the 8k30 mode...

Holy hell this game is a looker. Animations and controls are ass trash but it's still not bad to play.

Anyone know if you can change it back to 4k60? Can't seem to find an option in game

Animations? I actually found those well done.

To change the res/frames back, head to the Main Menu.

you have to go back to the main menu and it will appear in the graphics menu.

Did you play the DLC?

Because if it ever did happen, it'd have to star a new protagonist
I’m ok with that. I wouldn’t mind a new protagonist.

I didn’t like that most of the game Jacob had his helmet off so you could see Josh Duhamel and even with the helmet on it had a clear glass front. I want an Isaac Clarke situation. Don’t speak unless spoken to and I don’t want to see your face unless it’s an easter egg at the start.

What? Animation and controls are great. He’s heavy and that’s intentional. This is an eternal battle though. Those who only want twitchy arcade movement and those who don’t mind some weight and inertia. I like both but I find that the arcade controls people cannot allow for anything else.

Has nothing to do with arcade controls. Character movement and things like swinging the baton are way to slow and heavy.

It's like I'm using a GTA character to fight

Wow this is a nice upgrade patch! Nice variety of options and really pushing the perf envelope on what is one of the best looking games of this generation thus far.

Worth reminding everyone that running this game at native 4K/60 with the full ray tracing enabled is only possible on an RTX 4090 (not even the RTX 4080 or the 7900XTX can do it). So to see an AMD driven console pushing what appears to be native 4K/40fps with ray tracing is super impressive! We're talking roughly the experience of a 4070TI/7900XT here:

BTW, this is not the first title that is optimized for AMD hardware and/or console to approach 7900 XT performance on the PRO. This seems to be a best case scenario :messenger_winking:
Here's how the game runs on my RTX4080S at 4K TAA native with RT, I get 63fps in built-in benchmark. Keep in mind that the built-in benchmark in this game is extremely demanding (my guess is that particles are to blame), and what's more, the gameplay segment I've chosen shows the most demanding part of the entire game (I get 42-55 fps in this location, while the rest of the game runs at 55-90fps).

BTW- The IPS glow is very noticeable in my video due to the very high ISO, but I cannot see it with my own eyes. However, I still plan to buy an OLED monitor, because even my old GT60 panasonic plasma has way better image quality.

No, we aren't unless you can compare scene-for-scene and match settings. I can guarantee you the Pro will not come close to a 4070 Ti in any game outside of the odd PS5 exclusive, and even then, probably not.

What’s this other game where performance approaches a 7900 XT?

Turns out I had my old saves so I could check few locations.
Yeah it looks great still. This is the image quality I expected from Alan Wake 2... any callisto graphics mode beats AW2 image quality.
And even in 6k30 mode, the controls are what Alan Wake 2 should control like. Aiming and controls feel great for a 30fps slow survival horror.
Motion blur combined with great animations, make this one of best presenting and controlling 30fps slow survival horrors. At least better controlling than AW2.

Can't say I see much improvement from 8k mode over 4k40 mode.
I don't think any of the modes is using pssr though

DF did some pixel counting for the direct. 1296p-1440p upscaled to 4K via TAAU in the 60fps mode. Native 4K in the 30fps mode, could be higher but they don’t have capture equipment for that. 40fps mode wasn’t looked at.
Wish they did a full video instead of just DF Direct. Those numbers are certainly worth a closer look.

I wish it were easier to switch between modes to compare but damn nice looking. Played 8k mode for a while and it looks great. What is everyone doing with the effects options for each mode and did the new patch change anyone's mind on a mode?

This game just confuses the fuck out of me. The game basically feels like a full experience of a tech-demo. You can clearly tell they decided to add the melee combat mechanic as a rush job before the game's release because it's a janky fuck of a mess. It's like they had no business in making the game a melee focused combat game because they weren't experienced in designing it.

All in all, Glenn Schofields is a fucking hack and the rumors about him were true.

What this game manages almost too perfectly IMO, is this sense of being isolated and alone. I play so many horror games but I never feel so... abandoned that I have to stop and play something lighter. I don't know if it's the lack of NPCs you meet or the barebones gameplay it offers or just the atmosphere. It's not even creepy. But I always get this strange feeling while playing. This is a game I can't play for longer than 30 minutes when I'm alone at home!

That’s how I felt with stuff like the original Amnesia and Slender: The Arrival. Just a constant, unsettled feeling!

Aaaand just got the platinum. The last boss was terrible like I remembered, but thankfully not that much harder on maximum security. It was also the only part in the game where I noticed framerate issues, too many alpha effects during the fight I guess. On that last section RT reflections also looked quite bad which I didn't notice in the rest of the game.

I think people are just too used to dead space combat, where you can destroy all the enemies with the base pistol (plasma cutter). Combat in Calisto Protocol is much more challenging, because you cant rely just on your weapons, but it's also more rewarding if you know how to play the game. For example, say you have 3 enemies in front of you, you grab some heavy object with the gravity projector and throw into the first enemy (it will either kill it, or at least cut off his limbs), or throw him into a trap (insta killing him). Then you quickly shoot the closest enemy just once to stun him for a moment and then hit with the stun baton (using a heavy swing), so the enemy will be thrown a few metres away and possibly dead. Then you have a time to destroy third enemy. If enemy remains crawling without its limbs, you can stomp it. There are many ways to kill enemies in this game, you can even stand near the tramp and push enemies into them with a stun baton.

The combat in Calisto Protocol is absolutely amazing, but it requires some learning curve and it seems many people dont want so spend a time practicing it. Callisto Protocol also has an amazing atmosphere and graphics, so overall it's a very good game in my book, certainly one od the most undderated games I have ever played.

People who have learned to play this game do not think that the combat is badly designed.

it was the most average game I’ve ever played. I enjoyed my one playthrough of it but did it care to play again, maybe I will now though now that a pro patch is out.

I stopped a good portion of the way through, but it definitely looks great on the Pro.

I'm still not a huge fan of the FOV, but I can understand why they went with it.

Dragon Dogma 2 is average sequel to a a slightly above average game
There are worse games then Dragons Dogma 2 so I'm sure you've played them and this ain't it.
Play the hour trial and seemed like a good game? What makes this game so disliked? Maybe is gets worse?
It has a disappointing ending is probably my only problem with it
Could have done with some open areas to explore and backtrack.
But Spooky Scary Skeleton kinda nails "some" peoples problems with it.

Of course if you don't actually have any problems with the combat then

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Meanwhile on DF, they just said they can't see a difference with the 8k mode with this on screen

Yeah I don't understand anyone saying that. I don't have an 8k tv but the downsampled 6k looks truly stunning. It's tough comparing because of having to exit the game to change graphics options but it's still pretty clear that it's a much sharper image. None of the options are changing my tv settings so the only difference between s the choice of black and brightness.

It's one of those games where you can dumb your way through or you can "play it properly" like TGO TGO linked above. It just doesn't give you incentive to play it that way and I think most people just play their way through. Its not great but it's definitely not terrible. To me it gets better but I'm not done yet so it's possible that it cramps out. But if you have a Pro it's definitely worth a look. I think learning the combat comes with liking the setting in general. There are games where I do this like HZD where I know the combat can be incredibly complex and rewarding but I just don't have a desire to learn because I'm not into it.

On a related note, is it possible to take 8k screenshots/video on PS5 Pro? It's like everyone has forgotten that the controller has a dedicated screenshot button while all we get is this crappy overly compressed 4k footage off YouTube.

only if you are connected to an 8K TV, and I think only screenshots not videos.
