WB statement on the matter

That last line is the most number of ands I have seen in an official statement!

A DC IP didn't fit their strategic priority? Interesting...

RIP Monolith.
While I wasn't the biggest fan of their Mordor games, I was still looking forward to what they'd do next.
Either way WB sucks. I'm pretty sure they'll find a way to fuck up Hogwarts Legacy with the next game

Not without paying WB.

It's copyrighted.
WB patented(not copyrighted) the method by which they accomplished what we know as the nemesis system. Anyone is free to create their own to get a similar feature. What they'll get in trouble for is if they somehow use the exact same method as WB.

Another studio closed. Really bad mismanagement in some studios these days. Some can blame developers all they want, but when a studio hasn’t released a game in 8 years, with the new game being years out, then that seems like poor direction and leadership.

I got several push back saying the game was doomed from the start in another thread, welp
That's really weird. Because yeah, who wanted a Wonder Woman game? Lmao. It had a dark cloud over it from the start. I'm sure Wonder Woman has some fans, but she's such a meh and niche character. They could've done so many more interesting female super heroes. Or, they could've just done another Batman game and made everyone happy, lol.
Fuckin hate Warner Brothers. Forced Monolith to make a garbage Wonder Woman game that no one asked. Forced Roxksteady to make a garbage Suicide Squad game that no one asked for.

Fire the person in charge of these decisions.
Yeah, that's the big thing. I have no idea why Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman were the choices they decided to go with, then to make them the kind of games they were/going to be. It's pretty damn baffling. It just feels like they want to waste money and time.

This industry is finished. Beyond doomed. The fact so many 'gamers' are glad about this, is dreadful.

Your hobby is literally dying here guys.

Well at least Asia will help revitalise it in the meantime, the games they're producing are gold so far.

What is wrong with "y'all"? Isn't that just a southern way of saying "you all"?

Because when garden variety, non southern white people say it to a group (in order to purposely avoid saying "you guys" as if they're going to potentially offend someone in the room) it comes across as awkward, unnatural and forced.

To me anyway. I purposely go out of my way to never say it. Just cringey as fuck overall.

American game dev lost everything. Hope we can rise again from the ashes down the road.
Seems like DEI mania + switching to full remote work during COVID + COVID hiring/spending bubble + chasing “winner take all” live service trends + generally ballooning game budgets/timelines all played a part.

Just crazy to see them all make the exact same mistakes and suffer the same fate.

nowhat nowhat actually went into detail on this. It's super complicated for anyone to replicate the feature, which makes it not worth the hassle and thus it will go unused.

I have never heard of this being some culture warrior thing. I live close enough to the south and have been hearing people say it all my life that it is a normal enough word to me. A bit weird to me that west coast people would latch on to a southern word, being that they hate southern people.

Yep, that's her. Before she entered the games industry as a writer she did a study on sexism in the game industry.

I remember in college back in 2016 a college professor chastised me for saying "you guys". This happened in Kansas where you guys probably originated from!

Well that was 2016. Not being allowed to say "You guys" had already kicked in for a few years. The first Trump term just really accelerated it.

Monolith is mostly to blame. Their last game came out in October 2017. According to Jason Schreier Monolith's Wonder Woman game was a mess and years away from being finished. A games development studio that needs 9-10 years to get a next gen game out the door only has itself to blame when everyone gets fired.

Fuck those yankees. The only thing they're good for is driving up the property taxes.

Not saying it’s entirely their fault, but when you haven’t released a title in 8 years, you’re definitely on the chopping block barring some really, really good reason. 🤷‍♂️

Yeah. Cost/benefit is really bad. It really was a fucked up thing to even try patenting this.

Ouch, that could have been an interesting game. Even a bigger shame as wb has patented the nemesis system and wonder woman seemed to be the only game on the horizon that was going to use it. Some patents just shouldn't exist
WB only patented "1+1=2" not "10-8=2" or "4:2=2", or any of the other infinite pathways towards the same goal.

Ken Levine's Judas is taking up the torch from Monolith in this regard.

Probably seemed like a good idea back in 2017 when the first Wonder Woman movie came out and this game started development.

Not so much in 2025 when we have super hero fatigue, “strong female protagonist” fatigue, and the last Wonder Woman movie sucked.

Aye, I'd rather see them go out like this than throwing up all over themselves and shitting all over the place like Rocksteady, Tripwire, Arkane, Bethesda, Ubi Montreal, Bioware, DICE, Naughty Dog and Obsidian did. It's nobler death. Frankly, Monolith deserves to go out with some dignity. I pray the gameplay vids from WonderWoman never ever leak. If anyone at the studio still had their wits about them, hopefully they deleted every trace of it and overwrote the cloud backups with TBs of gibberish.

RIP Monolith. You were one of the best. Say hi to the boys at Tripwire when you get to classic dev heaven. You guys are entering at nearly the exact same time so there's a good chance you'll be roommates. Take solace that Condemned Criminal Origins is currently living a new life via Butcher's Creek.

Damn shame about Monolith, but being in development hell for so long while the gaming division of WB is losing money from every hole, I guess it was to be expected.
I'm actually surprised Rocksteady is still around, I guess they already had layoffs and most of the old guard left the studio before SS was released.

I bet WB just wants to preserve the Rocksteady name for when they get back into the Batman business. Basically all the classic studios still existing do so only in name. The pub can slap those t-shirts on any devs they want. I think it's important gaming fans start learning the names in the credits so we can follow the artists we like. Studio name means nothing anymore.

Eh, I think it’s totally acceptable in corporate environment to an extent because if you say “you guys” that would be sexist.

So you got folks, people, team and y’all.
