With the massive gap between the 5080 and 5090, it seems probable that Nvidia is going to release a 5080 TI, likely within the next 10 months.

I'd guess is that it's going to have 24 Gigs of memory, will have equivalent performance to the 4090 (maybe 5% faster), and will have an MSRP of $1300. That would mean that by the time it comes out, the price/performance improvement over the 4090 would only be about 20% in 3 years. That's obviously crap, but I don't think we can expect anything better from Nvidia these days.

Of course I'm not basing this on anything other than pure speculation, and I'm curious to know what other people think the specs/price would be.

We arent even gonna get a 5080 Super because the 5080 already uses the entirety of 203.

Nvidia made enough last gen with the 4080 and 4090 they realized they dont need to bridge the gap between xx80 and xx90.
202 is going to be 90, 90D and Pro only.
They arent cutting that chip for a 80Ti.

Yeah, a 4090 for more money and with almost no stock available. It's not really worth talking about.

We're stuck in this swamp until the bottom falls out of the AI market and Nvidia has to come back to gamers with reasonable offers, or until AMD catches up to Nvidia's current high end (4090 & 5090), which will probably be another 3 years.

This is the worst time in GPU history for me, and I've been building since around 1999. I just recently sent my 4090 FE to Nvidia for RMA, and some piece of shit working at FedEx stole it from the box. Now I'm waiting on FedEx to do an investigation and if they don't approve my claim, I'm shit out of luck. Looking around at the GPU market today, it's absolutely hopeless. The only card worth spending money on is the 5090 and I am NOT dropping $3000+ on a fucking graphics card, especially one that is such a mediocre upgrade from my 4090. I just want my card back. Fucking god this sucks.

Going to 24GB of VRAM with a 5080 also wouldnt make much sense because they would have almost no way of showing that the card is better than the 5080.
I think maybe like Flight Simulator 2024 would show it off, but most mainstream games wouldnt show any real advantage of owning a 5080Ti over a 5080.

GB203 is already at its limit......3200Mhz is considered an amazing result, almost all 5080s get within 50Mhz of that number, and gain at best 1fps.

GB202 is near literally twice the physical size of GB203, it makes more sense to use binned 202s on the PRO cards.
The Pro 5000 has like 14000 CUDA cores.....almost half the 24000 in the full chip.
At that size you would logically think they would put it in a 5080Ti.......Nope they can charge 4500 dollars for the heavily cut down GB202, they couldnt make that kind of money from a 5080Ti.
It makes no financial sense to use such a large chip for a card that costs less than a 4090.

Yup GB202 is way too big to sell for anything less than ~1500 MSRP.
And they have the Pro 5000 they can use binned GB202s in, that card is 4500 MSRP.
If they need to get rid of more 202s they can introduce a Pro 5500.
As the generation goes on they will just use the left over too fucked 202s on base 5080s and 5070Tis

I don't think you can expect big jump from existing process node in meaningful way. The process has matured, so they may be able to push a bit more voltage/amperage to the chip and the RAM to go faster... but for next 5080 revision (Ti or Super) - I think it will be modest 3-5% increase in CUDA core, and some modest bump in clock speed in both the chipset and RAM, but I do hope it will come as 24gb as standard, essentially matching 4090 in stock performance, at $999 FE (hopeful, but doubtful) - to $1299 (more likely)

That's not happening. It's going to be same chip as 5080, maybe a bit higher clocked, but with either 20 or 24GB of VRAM.

Edit: 4080 Super was basically discounted 4080. Don't expect much out of 5080 Super except more VRAM and higher prices.

The 3080Ti was a cut down 102.
The 3080 was also a cut down 102
Thats why the 3080 was such a good buy at the time, it was within spitting distance of the 3080Ti and 3090 while being much cheaper.

The 2080Ti was a cut down 102 vs the Titan.
The 1080Ti was a cut down 102 vs the Titan Xp.
The 980Ti was a cut down 200 vs the Titan X.
The 780Ti was a full GK110 but that generation the Titan was literally two 780Tis on one PCB.
Before this Ti were reserved for lower end chips to fill in the gaps and 90s were usually just two 80s on one PCB.




The 40 series is what really started skimping, cuz there was no 80Ti and the 80 was much much weaker than the 90.

Coz nvidia stopped producing them a while ago, to make artificial scarcity which obviously gonna increase prices of 50xx series cards.
Those are things top1 market value corpo in the world has to do to stay on top, gotta be ruthless to every1, including their own customers- cant always count on crypto boom or pandemic to keep gpu prices high, they know ppl gonna pay as long as they got no other choice, so its just a matter of making proper market conditions.
Amd is on board too btw, their msrp prices are just as fake as nvidias, hell lets not look far and check rx 7800xt that launched 1,5years ago at 500$msrp.

Hell here in poland we usually got nasty gpu prices with solid markup(usually even 30% higher) compared to the US but currently its visibly cheaper:

5080 Super is easy. Higher power limit and better bins and the most important part: 3GB memory modules giving it 24GB of VRAM on its 256bit bus, it's a slam dunk.

The question is whether Nvidia wants to do it now or wait for the 6080.

Even a Super on GB203 doesnt make much sense it would just be a 5080'24G like there was a 3080'10G and 3080'12G with the 12G being marginally faster, didnt constitute it being a Super let alone a Ti the same would apply here.
An OC would be the laughing stock of reviewers even with an extra 50W.......the extra VRAM would be almost impossible to show off, I think only like Flight Simulator 2024 would actually show gains from going to 24GB otherwise every other game would show the exact same results as the chip would choke at the same points before hitting the VRAM limit.


For it to be a Ti it would have to show some gains in core count, but GB203 is tapped out going up to 202 isnt logical right now "early" in the generation as GB202 is much much more valuable in near literally everything else.

IF i have to guess, there are 2 options

1- overclocked 5080, which will result to 10 performance boost. 15% max. with either 20gb or 24 gb
2- underclocked 5090. 15 to 20% performance boost. same mem configuration

price about 1300$ if its 1, 1600$ if its 2.

Not going to be lower price than a 4090.

1st thing is first there's pretty much no difference between the 2080 and 2080 Super. Same for the 4080 and 4080 Super other than the 4080 super was cheaper. There was no significant performance difference like there was for 4070 vs the 4070 Super. So expecting that to be necessary is silly as Nvidia clearly doesn't.

2nd of all GPUs aren't consoles. They're general purpose processing chips designed to excel at highly parallel tasks, just because few games at 4k use more than 16GB of memory doesn't mean every use case you can use a GPU in doesn't make use it of it. In fact there are plenty of people upset that the 5080 is not an upgrade or even a side grade over the 4090 because the 4090 had 24GB of vram. For tasks like local LLMs or image generation with plenty of LORAs or even video generation the 5080 is no better than even a 3090 when VRAM usage goes above 16GB.
