You think you hurt my feelings that you have missed out on some games?

What's funnier is you thinking I give a shit.

The biggest picture is that Microsoft has trojan horsed itself onto PlayStation, Nintendo, Apple & Android devices with Call of Duty & Candy Crush. At some point they will use the court system to be able to sell the license on their own store front & cut out the hardware manufacturer.

Are you suggesting they are not going third-party?
No, I don’t need to suggest anything when they themselves clearly stated their plans, and have been. They are giving consumers CHOICES and OPTIONS. There is new all over lately if you care to get your head out of your console warring ass that there most definitely will Be a next gen Xbox, at the same time , yes , they are making their games available on as many devices as possible. This isn’t a hard concept to wrap your mind around. Sony puts their games on PC (and even Xbox regarding MKB the Show). MS is is trying to reach as many gamers as possible and they are not going traditional :rd party. That would mean no more Xbox hardware. Nowhere has it been said there won’t be another Xbox. Reading and comprehension.

I'm hoping they bring the heat with the new controller. I like the Dualsense on PC, but the official support was dogshit. Even with paid 3rd party software, it didn't meet my expectations.

We desperately need something in gaming like "Movies Anywhere", where you buy a game on one platform and get it for every platform.
We really don't. Film and games are two different things.

People reminisce about the old days of gaming without recognizing just how much of a set of walled gardens it was. We will never fully RETVRN to that, but hopefully we get close.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.

I don't understand why someone would argue for less consumer rights and value, but you do you my guy

I would not argue against consumer rights but watching what is going on with the Xbox console is a good example of why those walled gardens work. Will this approach work for Microsoft Gaming? Absolutely. Would it work for Sony or Nintendo? Probably not. Just look at PlayStation games sales on Steam. Without PlayStation being the driving force, I'm not sure they would survive.

The stages of grief include shock, denial, anger, bargaining, depression, sadness, and acceptance. You'll get to acceptance eventually. :messenger_ok:

So you're predicting that they will try and pull a Tim Sweeney? Both MS and Epic have presented the case in court why consoles should not face the same scrutiny as Apple since the hardware is subsidised. To turn around and then fight against what they had would be funny but it wouldn't be the first time seeing MS contradict its past statements and behaviour.

I dream of a world where you don't need to double-dip to play a game you own on the device of your choosing.
Aren’t we already there? I buy one copy and play with the same saves and achievements no matter if I play by the desk, in the living room or in the bed, even cloud on any device but that needs a separate subscription so I exclude that.

Somewhat. Cloud streaming is only a thing for games that are on Game Pass (and again, only if you have a subscription). Xbox games still can't be played on the Steam Deck natively, unless you install Windows. But otherwise yes as I said earlier in the thread, Xbox is surprisingly the company that's the farthest ahead in this aspect.

Drop consoles and come to Steam my man. I play my games on a desktop PC, a living room PC, Steam Deck and on cloud through GeForce Now. Same account, same purchase, same saves, same achievements, same playtime, same controller, same everything.

I'm a like 90% PC gamer, so I know you're speaking the truth there (see my tag for reference lol). I really need to set up a Steam "console" in the living room - I've kind of been waiting for the official SteamOS build. In the meantime, I've been plugging in my Steam Deck to an HDMI docking station, but it's a pretty inelegant solution as the Steam Deck obviously struggles with 4K output in basically any game.

Cloud streaming with GeForce Now is great, but also another subscription I dropped.

Yea but isn't Sony releasing their games on Steam just going to help cement Steam as the defacto digital locker and play your games anywhere? I don't think play anywhere is going to be as popular as people think. I'm a heavy gamer and play anywhere means nothing to me because when I leave my house I just don't have time to play games. I'm out doing things. Sure for people who travel for work it's great but that's not enough people.

This post misses the point so much that I cannot quantify

I think so, yeah. They've been trying to release a games store for Android for a while now. If that ends up working out, they'll definitely want to make that kind of thing available everywhere.

I too started out in the living room with a docked Steam Deck. I used the old LCD Deck as a living room PC after getting the OLED Deck.

Eventually I built a separate PC instead because the Deck wasn’t powerful enough for all games I wanted to play.
For me it’s close to perfection. I boot it in Steam big picture mode. It’s possible to add Gamepass games as non-Steam games so not missing out there either. PC, Xbox, PS games at one place. 👍

They still have a hard time putting PS5 and NS2 on the market even though they're going to get most of their software revenue from them.

The real question is…what’s next?

Xbox has already sold out its brand, basically shit on its console, is selling out its core franchises… all in the name of making more money to recoup the acquisitions cost and counter the rising costs of development

But what’s next? There is nothing to suggest that development cost won’t continue to rise. So what do you do next? You’ve sold out everything you can at this point and now you’re gonna lose what little Xbox faithful you had

The truth is Gamepass cost is gonna skyrocket to the tune of a couple times a year minimum, even more aggressive microtransactions and even more predatory “pre order bonuses”. Forget just 3 days early access, they’ll start locking even more behind preordering

If you are against a “console war” you are pro subscription wars.

Microsoft WILL lock games behind a Gamepass subscription one day. As in no other way to purchase it. Or it’ll be gamepass exclusive for 6 months to a year

Any move that appears consumer friendly will prove to be the opposite shortly after

Honestly I don't even think MS knows what's next for Xbox

It’s okay guys. I’ll be at GDC, so I’ll tell Xbox that their new strategy isn’t working and they’ll fix it. 👍

So are you saying a Sony version of play anywhere?
Like I buy a license for gran turismo 8 and I can play it on ps6 or pc from my PSN account?

I don't think Sony will go that route unless they have to but for now they have the Portal which they make money by selling as a option to play your PS5 games on when you're away from your PS5 but it also can play some PS5 games without you owning a PS5.

That feature could come to other devices but only if it's sustainable .
PS+ Cloud streaming on Portal is in beta so they're probably doing a lot of calculating about if it's worth it to bring it to other devices.

Making more Portal devices is probably the better way to go with this though .
