Why would I eat crow either way? For a start, what do you consider to be a flop? What does Sony consider to be a flop? These mid gen machines aren't costly to R&D, nor are they costly to market as they are all naturally part of Sonys R&D for next gen (PSSR development for example) and they would be marketing PS5 anyway. They could sell 2 million of these and still make a profit (not even counting the number of drives they sell, additional controllers, PS+ subs, additional games). It even shares some components with the slim.

I'm just saying it's a massive factor to quite a few that would have no doubt budged the numbers up. I was thinking about grabbing one on release as I do with all new consoles but I just can't justify it to be honest. Not out of being broke but more of a principle matter

PC has a few exclusives, no one cares about exclusives on PC while Consoles are predicated on a closed walled garden offering 1st party to entice players to buy the consoles. Apples =/= Oranges.
Also, gonna break your delusional myth about upgrades. On Steam Hardware Survey - August 2024 (Rounded)
