"9.5 / 10.0 Feb 12, 2025 Avowed marks another triumph for the folks at Obsidian. Through its gorgeous world, memorable characters, frenzied combat, and intuitive yet deep customization system, it highlights player agency. Everywhere in its gameplay and narrative, ensuring that each playthrough offers something new. More importantly, it does so while never compromising the strength of its core story.".

Outlet: But Why Tho ?

I have this feeling this will be the most "7 out of 10" ever made and somehow the gaming press will glaze all over it.
A new Veilguard, basically.

This is just gonna be another situation where people that are interested will probably find joy in it, people that aren't, won't. Pretty standard. I bet it'll be decent enough for those that are looking forward to it.

Trying so hard. On top of the "Non buy nary" brainlet moment in your closed thread this morning, I'm curious, at which point, which media outlet or reviewer, its gonna take to seperate Veilguard and Avowed in your mind? Or such a thing is impossible? I'm going for impossible in your case, but I'll let you come up with the answer.

The reviewer really liked The Outer Worlds.

Also, some other reviews:

I'm guessing he liked the more linear direction like previous Bioware/Obsidian games based on his other reviews.

Didn't really glaze that much over the game. Opencritic is sitting at 79. Only a 10 point difference from the Steam score. Overall reviewers thought it was a 8/10 game while Steams thinks it is a 7/10 affair.

I'll wait for GAF to let me know if this is worth the time. Cant trust anything else these days, even Steam reviews are a bit off.

And you think you can trust 'GAF'? 🤣

Half of the 'reviews' you'll see here will be from watching YouTube clips and streamers. A large portion will be stuck in culture wars nonsense.

At least the folks on Steam pay for the games.

Only thing to mentally filter off in Steam reviews is technical issues specific to niche hardware.

Also, just another reminder that reviews are opinions. Some people may love something, while others may not. No one is right or wrong in any case. Much like you could eat something and think it tastes like shit, while someone else thinks it's one of the best things they've ever had, lol. It's all subjective.

Most of the major outlet scored it EXTREMELY high.
And for the record user score is still far more generous than anything Veilguard actually deserves, in my book.
But then again that's a lost battle in a world where a lot of people (even on this forum) argue about Skyrim being "an amazing RPG experience".

If a game has more A/B pronouns on the character creator you can safely deposit all critic reviews directly in the trash where they belong.

I love Obsidian and I will wait and see what regular gamers have to say about Avowed.

...Which was the most "6 out 10" ever made.

The Outer Worlds is so generic and bland. The writing sucks the gameplay is boring and uninspired, the exploration is a complete joke. There is nothing interesting to explore in those tiny maps, its hard to believe that this game got decent reviews to be honest.

I dont expect Obsidian to do anything good after that game and after hearing all the awful people that is in charge of this studio
