Avowed | Review Thread

Down to 80 on metacritic. It'll probably fall in the 70s by the end of it. All the bigger sites gave it poor scores (60-70) and it's the sites nobody has ever heard of that gave it 90-100.

Even Reset is acknowledging that overall, this isn't very good.

Gawd, Obsidian, where did you go? Where is the Fallout New Vegas writing? Where is Pillars of Eternity writing? (Oh, that's right, you ran off Chris Avellone).

I know Sawyer is there, but its clear he has not been given free reign over their bigger projects.

Considering most sites are Sony shills, it would likely be higher but they would never give an Xbox game a high score.

But you didn't ask about any of that other stuff you asked how he came to that conclusion so quickly on a video just posted and like I said a quick rundown was right there in the tweet plus its pretty easy just to watch their conclusion

Those same "Sony shill" sites that gave Microsoft games such high scores that they won Metacritic's "publisher of the year" a few years ago?
 
So i was excited for this game and now my hype has lowered drastically. 1 thing that kills immersion for me in any RPG is having static environments and NPC's, and avowed having that is horrific. When characters don't move then i feel like i'm playing a lifeless videogame and not a living and breathing world that has stories to tell and is alive.
 
Even ignoring their shitty insane views, this game still looks so boring. It seems to have that below Mid feel to it, the same thing that plagued Outer Worlds with this one looking and feeling even worse.
 
I don't know why. I can't quite pinpoint what it is, but the art style in this game seems aggressively generic fantasy to me. Which is wild because the cover art looks awesome, but the actual game doesn't look anything like it.

I didn't say he came to a conclusion. It simply made no sense for him to dismiss another person's take on the technical state of the game when he wouldn't have had time to watch the video in full.

I'm watching the video now and even their gushing summary doesn't tell the whole story.

Reviewers should never put culture war crap on their reviews. Reviews should be about game itself and nothing else, audience themselves should decide if the game "woke" or not.

These days I can no longer tell whats "woke" and what not and it feels like people use that word simply for things they dont like....that word has no longer has any meaning.

Did anyone really expect differently?

It's a mediocre looking game, with mediocre performance, mediocre combat, saved by decent graphics and good lighting.

I guess the game just needs to come out for us to get a real picture. Been the case for a while with bugs/performance issues.

Yup that shit aired during the Super Bowl. I feel sorry for all the guys who had to pretend it was a great commercial because their wives/girlfriends were around.

Given all the FUD lately, I'm going to say it's safe to assume that the scores are inflated. Happened with Indy as well.

Edit:

And no, I'm not saying these games are bad, just mediocre. Typical GP filler.
