Honestly, and forgive me if i have gone back and forth with you on this very subject, but every game is uneven. You can go back to last gen or the gen before. Every game has phoned in levels and missions that were rushed towards the end of the project.
Just go to the first page of this thread. I posted some stunning shots of TLOU2 and some guy was like werent you shitting on it a few weeks ago, and I was. that whole hospital section and several other levels that were supposedly added after poor focus testing were not up to par with the rest of the game. Yet we hold TLOU2 as the gold standard despite the downgrades from its E3 reveal, despite a good chunk of the game looking rough, despite some questionable AO and GI in indoor areas i have covered many many times.
Infamous and DriveClub were the gold standard in the early days of last gen. Yet this thread used to be full of fanboys who kept posting the worst looking areas in the game. Especially some of the DLC levels dont look too hot. Infamous literally started the photomode craze and it has some of the worst draw distance ever, even compared to AC Black Flags which was cross gen.
I've posted terrible screenshots of Uncharted 4, Witcher 3, Rise Of Tomb Raider, HFW, GOW, Arkham Asylum, and even RDR2 which has some of the worst character models ive seen last gen. And it is by far the most consistent looking game of all time, and easily my game of the generation. It couldnt compete with TLOU2 in terms of lighting or character models. Couldnt compete with The Order on well anything. But like HB2, the order is barely even a game.
Edit: thats not to say you cant criticize Avatar for that forbidden forest level that was clearly rushed to meet the launch date. thats why i said it mostly looks great 80% of the time. I think games like Callisto, HB2, The Order and Ryse are rare 7 hour games that are easier to remain consistent comapred to say a 25-30 hour TLOU2 campaign, or 50 hours HFW, Avatar, and RDR2 campaigns. ND literally has two campaigns in TLOU2. Uncharted 1 was 8 hours long, so technically 3x bigger than Uncharted 1. Of course it wont be as consistent.
Edit 2: This is my favorite comparison. This is from AC Origins, a stunning 2017 game that cured my depression after i realized HZD would never be topped. But both of these shots are from the same area, just taken from a different POV.
