Forza Horizon Review Thread

makes sense, thank you.

p.s. dont forget to let the team know that we need (a) more driving feedback on the pad and (b) beefed-up engine noises and sfx.

All I can say at this point is that we're closely monitoring all the feedback posted about the demo, and that we're aware of the comments being made regarding the vibration settings for pad users.

Got you a few answers from an audio designer.

Do the exhaust upgrades at least raise the volume/aggressiveness of the sounds? – This depends heavily on the car. In general the volume of certain components does increase with upgrades. This in turn drives the DSP harder and gives the car more of a race feel.

Is DSP still a feature in Horizon? – Forza Horizon features the same DSP as Forza Motorsport.

Where are the shifting effects? – This also depends heavily on the car. These have been tweaked for Forza Horizon and become more prominent as the cars transmission is upgraded.

Where are the exhaust pops, splutters and crackles? ? – Forza Horizon features the same pops, splutters and crackles as Forza Motorsport.

Hope the above answers are to your liking.

Eurogamer's opening paragraphs are right-on. This game is so unbelievably tacky. When I heard that song from that fucking Doritos Loco commercial I wanted to turn it off right there.

The game is fun, I am sure it will be good, but the DLC nonsense will keep me away for a while. Hopefully there will be $30 sales in December.

Too much focus on DLC kills right from launch my interest in games. It was the same with FFXII-2.

Didn't seem like Giant Bomb mentioned any of the tackiness in their review; but maybe Jeff will talk about it on the Bombcast.

I only complain about DLC if there's not much to offer in the base game.

Turn 10 has NEVER delivered a small amount of content up front. They always give you HUNDREDS of cars/events and then follow it up with DLC.

If you're getting ripped off I understand, but name another open world/road arcade like racing game that comes with a garage of cars this size and the upgrade/customization features of this game...

...there simply isn't one.

Congrats to Playground, I was hoping it would be good but these reviews exceeded my expectations. The giant bomb quicklook was fantastic.

Demo put me in line for the hype train. Weaving around traffic while racing at 150 mph while heavy bass drops are coming through my headphones felt pretty awesome, and I love the open world idea. Enjoyed the arcadey feel - good contrast to Forza. Its a different game for sure. Multiplayer is going to be a blast. Reviews sealed the deal. Bought!

I know what you mean and I'm sure there's plenty or cars and events on the disc, but when a developer focuses too much on DLC right out of the gate it just makes me think I should wait for a complete edition 9 months later.

I'm pleased, but not particularly surprised, at the flattering review scores.

Congrats to the team at Playground; it seems Turn 10 has found a great partner going forward to expand the Forza series,
so we can have more actual motorsport in FM5
. Seeing some of Horizon's festival/race ambiance rub off on the mainline series couldn't hurt, either.

Still, for now the focus is rightly on Horizon and I'm glad the game has, by all accounts, delivered. I foresee it spending much time in my disk drive.

I noticed something yesterday on the demo, the trees and bushes aren't lit by the headlights at night, only the area around them.

There might be performance reasons for this (which is fine by me) but is it the same in the full game? Also, is that big bright moon always present at night?

Oh my god, it has the Eagle Jag.

I was turned-off by the lack of crashing and the rubber band AI, but now I'm going to preorder the LE.

There's a few sites saying 127 not including the nine barn find cars..

If thats the number then it sucks, i have seen the list from the database, 153 cars counting unicorns and barnfinds. Theres SOOO many great cars missing from Forza 4, i wont support DLC if they start releasing cut contents.

Thats my only complain (and the vibration on rally races) about this game right now, i loved the demo.

There were never, ever going to be 600 cars like Forza 4.

They better be offering new cars for DLC and nothe same stuff we've already seen in FM4.
Would be utter crap having to buy the same DLC twice..

Is that the list some guys got from the demo files?

If so, that's more than enough cars for the vanilla game..

Yeah, he is a pretty awesome modder (who doesn't take his stuff online) and knows what he is doing.

I am guessing that is why the expansion is so big. I am thinking it will be more roads and more cars. I am not too disappointed with the car list. Sure, there are some I really miss (like my car) but this is still more than any other open world/road racer.

You know.. theres a big difference between 153 and 670+ (Forza 4 + all DLC).

I didnt expect 700 cars but i never expected less than 250 even with all the races cars and lower classes gone, they cut 500 cars with lots of classics, exotics, muscle and rally legends missing.

-No BMW 850, M3 E46
-No Dodge Challenger
-No Proper Mclaren F1
-No Jaguar XJ220
-No Ferrari 360 Modena or CS
-No Zonda Cinque or C12
-No Merdeces Benz CLK-GTR
-No Shelby Cobra
-No Skyline R32 or R33

Those are on the top of my head, i will start missing even more cars when i have it.

Choosing between this and Most Wanted is going to be tough. They're similar enough to give me pause, but I know they're probably both going to be awesome and worth playing (and slightly different, considering one is Forza and one is NFS) but still. Daaaamn.

I'll end up getting both, I'm sure, but I've got to finish one before starting the other.

Any good deals going on for this game (US)? I see its $60 everywhere.
Probably Microsoft Store? I assume they're doing the $10 credit + 1600 MSP deal thing. I haven't checked though. That or wait another month for Black Friday for potential $30-$40

I just got a change to play the demo yesterday and i definitely want to pick it up (looks amazing, plays great!)... but the nickel and diming DLC definitely has me skeptical. I think i'll wait a bit until i see the need for speed review and make my decision from there. (I only have enough time for one or the other)

I had no idea that Playground Games consisted out of former Codemasters and Bizarre Creations members. Certainly explains the Project Gotham racing vibe.

Yeah, those do make me sad.

Yep, on the MSFT store it's a 10 dollar coupon and 20 dollars in MSP. Great deal.

Even the positive reviews have been lukewarm on the multiplayer. Which sucks, because I'm really looking for a multiplayer game right now.

Good thinking, I need to check on this. Thanks

Edit:

Yep it's still going:

http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msstore/en_US/pd/Forza-Horizon-for-Xbox-360/productID.251272400

So, if I bought this for $60, I'd get $20 in Allards and a $10 coupon which I could put towards another $20 Allard card. So $70 turns into a game and $40 in Allards. Not too shabby.

Free shipping is 3-7 days though, that kind of sucks.

This is the list I have seen and from what I understand BADNED confirmed it.

So whats the story on this pic?

"We are, as a group, actively worried about replacing ourselves," he admitted to us. "I love cars, but I'm 40. I want my kids to be into Camaros and Mustangs and Supras. I want cars like the Subaru BRZ to come out and ignite a new car lust among the younger generation." - Greenawalt
