Naughty Dog and the PS4

Love Uncharted to death but I really hope they start this gen with a new ip; I wanna see their creatives minds at work, though I can't begin to imagine what they would do next.

Very expensive, long development times and most of them don't sell that well.

If it's good, if it can iterated upon and if marketed well, it can. ME, FO3 and Skyrim are a few examples.

With ND's experience at carving beautiful looking worlds, it would be a good fit. Although it would be quite a far cry from anything they have done so far.

I do agree with the sentiment that PS(Sony) really needs its own WRPG.

A new Uncharted game but with Charlie Cutter as the star.

Anyone have any ideas what the plot could possibly be for a U4 that would make it stand out and not seem like more of the same? Like Drake having kids?

Uncharted is too successful for Sony to drop it or pass it to another studio full time.

I guess we will see Uncharted PS4 as there next game and then something different from some combination of the TLOU team.

I dont expect we will hear about ps4 from ND until at the earliest 2014 E3 though. They are pretty busy now and they need to save something big for the long term.

I think that a strong third person shooter is healthy for a console. I think that it might be Uncharted 4, or a spin off, to be the fiction of this third person shooter.

It absolutely has to be a new IP. I got tired of Uncharted and Nate's witty shenanigans by the end of U3. Not to mention that I can't wait to see what ND can do from the ground up with all that hardware grunt.

But I can't help but feel that TLOU coming out on PS3 is a way of hooking people in to the franchise to entice them in to buying a PS4 for the sequels.

A) PS4 version of The Last of Us (lol)
B) Uncharted for PS4
C) Jak and Daxter(!)
D) Simultaneously developing Last of Us sequel for PS4
E) Brand new IP

I want B, and E for the next game of the TLoU guys. I don't want A because I prefer it as a PS3 game to enjoy it now. And I prefer D after Uncharted 4 and a new IP form ND. I hate Jak and Daxter, for me leave them far from ND. Same goes with Crash Bandicoot, if they buy back the IP give it to other devs.

I'd be more than happy with a new IP, but I do hope they go to the Uncharted universe just one more time. And I'm beginning to hope it isn't a near-launch title, but Sony lets them spend three full years making it awesome. At that point we can all move on from Uncharted. I just need one more game on a next-gen system with that awesome multiplayer.

Uncharted wasn't a trilogy so I expect continuing stories in the series. Their second studio should be shifting between new IPs and maybe a TLoU sequel if the story calls for it. Jak and Daxter should just go to another studio.

And what will happen to The Last of Us? I find it hard to believe they won't have a sequel to it, but that's just me being wishful I suppose.

TLoU is a self contained story IIRC. Any sequel will be a separate story/characters in the same world.

When Activision came out and said they were showing off something Sony hasn't seen in a decade (or something along those lines) a tiny piece of me was hoping that they were teaming up with Naughty Dog to do a new Crash.

Not sure how they would pull off a new Jak game without Andy or Jason.

Uncharted also needs to take a rest for now, IMO.

New IP would be the best course of action.

My bet on Sony's game road map:

Launch
GG Team 1 - Killzone
Sucker Punch - Infamous
Evo Team 1 - Drive Club
Cerny's team - Krank

Months 0-12
The Last Guardian
Ready at Dawn - new IP
Sony San Diego - MLB: The Show
Gran Turismo 6

Holiday 2014
ND team 1 - Uncharted reboot akin to KZ and Infamous reboots.
Sony Santa Monica team 1 - new IP
Quantic Dream - new IP

Mid-2015
Evo Team 2 - new IP
Mm - new IP
Double 11/Tarsier - LittleBigPlanet PS4

Holiday 2015
ND Team 2 - new IP
GG Team 2 - new IP
Sony Santa Monica team 2 - God of War reboot, likely a different lead protagonist/setting.

Staggering teams will allow Sony to keep the holiday seasons packed, fill in some strong entries in the middle months, and when one team in a studio finishes a title they can shift some staff over to help the other team for the deadline crunch (i.e. ND Team 1 finishes Uncharted 4 in ~October 2014, moves a chunk of the team over to ND Team 2 for a few months to help meet the holiday deadline in 2015).

So we all know they have more than one team, obviously working on something for the PS4. What is it? And more importantly, will it be a launch title? Will it be at E3? Options:

A) PS4 version of The Last of Us (lol)
B) Uncharted for PS4
C) Jak and Daxter(!)
D) Simultaneously developing Last of Us sequel for PS4
E) Brand new IP

Personally, I think they need to have something either at launch or very near launch. I'm hoping for an all new Jack and Daxter (finally), but I find it hard to believe they'd go two+ years (or however long it would be), without an Uncharted game, especially since Drake is so established/iconic now.

So, if it is Uncharted and not Jak, will we ever see J&D (or dare I say a new IP) from Naughty Dog this gen, or is the next cycle going to go LoU1, U4, LoU2, U5?

Do you think it is a coincidence that the release date of "The Last of Us" was pushed a few days behind E3 2013?

People are crazy if they think it will be anything other than Uncharted 4.

I wouldn't expect a ton of innovation apart from improved graphics and higher player counts in multiplayer (24 seems likely). Oh, and maybe better AI and physics.

Yes, it is a coincidence. They were saying that everyone on the team was working 16 hour days to try to get it out for May, but in the end they figured it couldn't be done without making sacrifices so persuaded Sony to push the release date.

/edit: Doh, double post. Meant to edit my last post.

Uncharted 4 is probably to most likely title that they'll be making I think.

Though I would prefer if they were making something that was a little bit less scripted and more open.
