Only reason I can think of is that they want their drivers and features ready day one vs potentially needing an update or two for full performance which has happened in the past. Anywho, they just pushed me into a 5070ti because the leaks of the 9070XT was pushing me in that direction

Yes of course March.. when Nvidia released all their cards and everyone bought them, you do a paper launch release in March. amazing tactics really. well played by the dev/marketing/management team.

This way they will ensure a 100% getting their ass kicked with no way to recovery.. the best plan ever.

Really strange that some stores already have some 9070s, but AMD now is only releasing these cards 2 months from now.
Is this some plan to have more stock available or something....

Nvidia can just lower prices for a bit to capture high end purchases, Intel came in roaring with B580 on the low end. I can't imagine any scenario right now where AMD isn't squeezed into oblivion. They are making decent cards at bad prices, without any differentiation. When your only competitive advantage is price and you can't afford to go any lower, it's bad news.

In other news, about to return my BF 7800XT and skip out on another generation of GPUs in favor of consoles.

What's the plan.

Either they are gathering stock for a bigger launch. Meaning they are confident the cards are competitive.
Or there are issues with drivers not ready yet.
Usually, AMD releases several drivers per month, the usual WHQL for when new games launches. But also specific drivers for Vulkan. Some for AI. And some for Pro applications.
For the last 3-4 months there have been only 2 or 3 drivers in total. Meaning most of AMD's driver team is working on RDNA4.
The repository for AMD drivers has shown a ton of updates, with new files and dlls. Meaning the team is working on something.
This is AMD's log for driver changes: https://download.amd.com/dir/bin/000Admin/history.txt

Or it can be a mix of both things. AMD wants to have greater stock and they want the best optimised drivers for launch, eve if it means a delay.

There is also the question of FSR4. Maybe they are still working on developing the SDK for it. Or still working with some studios to implement it in time for launch.

is this that bad? isnt the supply for nVidia going to be horrendous? IMO it all rests on how good FSR 4 is. if its about the same as DLSS 3 and/or 4 its a big win.

That's what I expected, as mentioned in the other thread, they are waiting for the 5070 to be out in the wild so they can change the value proposition of the 9070.

Yes, rumours say supply for the RTX5090 and 5080 are tight. But that are just rumours, so far.
The same is happening with Battlemage, with the B580 and B570 with very low stock.
That’s all that the scalpers are hoping for!

Maybe AMD can get some sales from people not willing to pay 50% more than MSRP for a 5070 FE.

I think the biggest problem with getting an AIB 5090 is having to cope with a 3 or 4 slot card after seeing how tiny the FE is (2 slots)!

How the hell are they supposed to compete If they announced like months ago that their next cards will be midrange level??🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️
most of the GPU market buyers are entry to mid level range ?

high end cards like the 4080/5080 and above are high end cards.

anything below is mid range and can compete with AMD if the 9070xt is anything to go by the leaked specs.

Price is also a factor. they can always compete. They are just stupid.

I can wait a month, but I'm very curious about the price point(s).
That's the most likely reason for NV going "Feb for 5070" and AMD "March for 9070 then".
Finishing FSR 4, that looked quite promising in R&C at CES is another possible reason.

I really appreciate the excitement for RDNA4. We are focused on ensuring we deliver a great set of products with Radeon 9000 series. We are taking a little extra time to optimize the software stack for maximum performance and enable more FSR 4 titles.

We also have a wide range of partners launching Radeon 9000 series cards, and while some have started building initial inventory at retailers, you should expect many more partner cards available at launch.
