The hate campaign for this is insane

It’s like another Forspoken but Forspoken marketing was actually really bad. Shadows marketing is fine.

They finally show just gameplay clips. Tons of them. Showing combat, parkour, graphics and very good environmental audio. I think it looks good. Better than any recent ac game.
Yet it’s not enough? People are still angry about something? Like asmongold video. He is really searching and being unfair to those clips. The game looks pretty good I think.
yasuke will be a great character. I like the idea of black out of place samurai. The girl looks a bit bland but we don’t know anything.

asmon says gameplay is king but that’s all they are showing.
It’s like he is watching something else than they are showing.
Stupid hate campaign I am telling you.
Insane that I am defending Ubisoft game but it’s unfair lol

NGL this video is such a whiplash, from the title you'd expect one thing, but then you actually watch the video and you see a man impressed with what he's seeing at various points but scared to actually praise it in fear of how his chat will react lol. These grifters are such pussies.

I like how he afraid to say that some of the footage actually looks good. It looks "fine", it looks "okay", it looks "decent". Just dancing around to please his brain rot chat

Yep. Exactly my thoughts.
Influencers are set to hate it and no amount of changes will.. change that. Was exactly the same with forspoken but truth be told, that marketing campaign was terrible....

Like.... black samurai was always a cool idea. Ever since the blm movement, the effect is opposite.
Cmon... this was always pretty cool

What does grifter mean in this context?

They're ripping their viewers off by giving them a reason not spend money on something?

I bet the Japanese would be a little less salty if the character didn’t look like something ChatGPT cooked up after being told to mash up R. Kelly with LeBron James.

I’m sorry chaps but…

It’s Assassins Creed.

For all it’s failings I love these games; more and more since Origins and Odyssey.

Being able to just lol around in ancient historical settings, to be fully immersed in such rich depictions of historical cultures with sandbox exploration and tried and tested AC gameplay to keep you occupied as you go. It’s just good clean fun that can keep you busy for a few months until the next big game drops.

Plus I do love the more fantastical parts like the Olympus/Hades/Valhalla/Asgard/Jotunheim/All of Valhalla DLC/etc. it’s a shame we didn’t get anything like that exploring a more fantastical depiction of a “land of the gods” in Origins. It would have been all kinds of amazing to see a vivid depiction of the Egyptian pantheon realised for once in media (no one has done this well yet outside of the Marvel Moon Knight show but just about barely).

I’m very much ignoring all the BS controversy around this game and will take it for what it is; yet another AC game, set in a fascinating setting of ancient feudal Japan, that will let me bob about as a fucking ninja and a samurai? Damn! I’m down all day long.

It will be bloated, it will be samey, it will be well trodden, it will be formulaic as fuck…

But it will also be immersive, rich, elaborately crafted, and fun as hell, whilst keeping me entertained for as long as I want to be.

I really hope they bring in more fantastic elements too, if only as DLC, and we get to go on missions to fight Oni, Yokai, etc, with the typical Isu window dressing to try to semi-ground it in plausibility and congruence with the main AC backstory & theme.

Guilty pleasure.

Can’t wait…
Well said.
Also cant wait for the game.

Agree and I was annoyed by the black samurai stuff ...but not enough that I wasn't excited about what looks like a cool AC game, with amazing visuals and what looks like the first great combat system in ages for an AC game. I used to not mind these youtube hate campaigns but now I see them as the drifters they are. I'm sick of 70-80 scoring type of games getting ruined and considered 60-70 mc games which consequently sell badly which leads to them never getting a sequel.

I have a friend who is a bit more casual of a gamer, who will mention how "bad" games are to me because he watched some youtuber bashing on it. Lately he's been telling me about how Ubisoft is "going under" as if that's an inevitability. He also refuses to check out games like Callisto Protocol for this reason.

Ubisoft are being dumb asses about this situation though. Shouldve kept quiet and kept the Feb release date. They're giving more fuel to the hate campaign instead of sticking to their guns. They're not going to be able to rewrite the character or story in time for March, so wtf are they doing here unless the technical state is so bad they simply can't avoid a Cyberpunk situation in Feb.

Nintendo takes over streaming portion of Xbox game pass (at least in the EU) It’s kinda like Phil’s BHAG…but in reverse.

Nintendo doesn't want 20,000 new employees. Firing them all would be illegal in some jurisdictions, and bad PR in others. Ubisoft has to be broken up.

Thought they just sent everyone to timeout rooms these days.

You are not wrong…Nintendo has no need for their desiccated viscera.
Time out zones across like 20 studios in 12 countries would be very expensive. You still have to pay their salaries. Ubisoft needs to go, but the best outcome for everyone is a break-up.

Are you comparing this game to Forspoken who also stars a black character as the MC in a magical fantasy land?

Exactly. That’s the worst. I know a guy who skipped dragons dogma 2 because of microtransactions controversy… and he loves those games. Meanwhile I just played the game and it was great.
Yeah 7-8 games get destroyed. AA was already dead but now only chad games are allowed to exist

Yeah, once I finally watched it, it was 100% reaching for criticisms because of who is making it and the main character. If it was a no name dev with a Japanese main, the praises would be constant. It looks to improve over everything in Valhalla. It's an obvious upgrade on graphics, animations, weather effects, sound effects, and features over their last game in the IP, Valhalla.

Asmon is so full of himself that he is hoping that his videos have a huge negative effect on sales. It would give him so much satisfaction and he would of course take full credit.

if only Onimusha is ready near, they will not only fight big name with japanese theme game, and with japanese theme game made by japanese as well. chaos!
The 2 games are completely different in genre, who is in search for an open world is not gonna buy onimusha, and viceversa.

It's wrong in both cases. And it's scummy of Ubisoft to pass off their history alterations as authentic. Portraying Vikings as anything other than savages is a bigger fantasy than aliens or gods.
I don't think Ubisoft has ever tried to pass off any of the AC games as historically accurate

And you know all this fuss about upsetting the Japanese is getting a bit much more so when Japan wasn't a lovely friend country until America dropped the bomb on them .
The way Japan treated prisoners of war was inhuman, not least my great uncle

Trilobit

Absolutely Cozy
So what exactly does he mean that the players will learn about the "fantastic time period"?
That's very different to saying its historically accurate

Lots of games are set in a fantastic time period and will look to use architecture and dress sense from that timed period while making most of the gameplay up (because its a game
Just look at the likes of Mafia, LA Noire

It's a pricing issue. There are so many games to play, but no one is going to pay $70/€80 for every game that comes out. So people have to look at reviews to figure out where to spend their money and the 7 or 8 out of 10 games get scrutinized quite heavily.

70$ is nothing. games were 60$ for 20 years.
Everything else around doubled or tripled in pricing

"various transformational strategic and capitalistic options to extract the best value for stakeholders"

That corporate word-salad is a thing of real beauty. Ubisoft burning while simultaneously insisting on drinking petrol is one of my favorite things in videogames at the moment.

I'll almost be sad when Tencent finally offers them pennies on the dollar and stripmines them.

I support creators to be able to see their vision realized. So if this is the story they want to go with for this game, I say go for it. HOWEVER, the market will determine whether this game will be a hit or not. If the game's sales are soft, I don't want to see the studio come out and blame the consumers for not buying the game. Stand by your own creative decisions and accept whatever consequences come as a result of that.

Fucking hell, dude.

Well, at least you are honest about your reasons to defend the game this time. Ubisoft can't even say that much.

lol He is not wrong though. It's history. But I dont see how it makes sense to bring up here.

As for the game being controversial, not truthful enough to history?
Who cares. The game is not for Japanese to play but rest of the world and their imagination about samurais and medieval japan.

Anti-Japanese sentiment based on events that occurred decades ago would be one of the worst moves Ubi could do. They've been so tone deaf to the Japanese in this situation, though, that I'm inclined to believe they just didn't think they were important at all with regards to a game set in their country and history. Then again, that's in line with how many activists design games - for themselves and for virtue signalling.

I'm not defending the game, just getting slightly peed-off with this notion that we can't upset the Japanese or that somehow AC are historically correct and accurate when they've never been.

It's like some of the British who upset over Robbin Hood having a USA accent and being played by an American, it was beyond pathetic never mind the utter bullcrap that was Braveheart for being historically correct and not having a Scottish lead man either.
Who cares when the films are good? And I feel just the same about games even if I'm a little tired of everything in life now needing to tick a box not to upset anyone, unless of course they're white and Christian and then anything goes :messenger_neutral:

Should we also earmark Sep 11th as the day nothing should release in the US ?
