KCD 2 is Crytek.

It has a lot of stuff Bethesda does with Creation engine.

I think it depends on dev.

Am not surprised Obsidian decided to omit this stuff or considered adding in 😂
That is not kc2...it is called kingmakers and it make look the number of ncps and physics in kc2 like child play.

And it is a ue5 game.

Of course it is a dev thing, just look at the fuckin starfield that is a shadow of what skyrim was, and it is the same engine, hell an upgraded version of it.

Obisidian made an action RPG, not a Skyrim like. That's the way I see it. It's a fun but shallow action game like old school console Baldur's Gate with a lot more dialogue, not a deep RPG. Once I figured that out, I am enjoying it more. Fun factor above immersion. We'll have to wait for the next ES for that.

This becomes more obvious as you play. The writing isn't great. Cities feel empty. Just not a lot of depth here, but it has a fun combat system. I'm focusing on building a kick ass character for combat and having fun with it.

Dismantle everything you don't use at the camp and upgrade your weapons, weapon level is the most important thing.

Always bring the dwarf with you, forget that you have 2 companion spot, you only really have one, his skill to check for loot around you is vital to not lose tons of loot, he is the worst companion with the best skill, obsidian hate us.

I don't really have combat tips because when your loot is on an adeguate level, combat is pretty easy, i guess kill healers and evokers first maybe?!

Potions work everytime, food only heal you fast outside of combat, but slowly if you are fighting, cook food in your camp and maybe drink something that improve defense and attack before entering combat.

Can you give loot to your companions or do they have the same equipment the whole time? I usually try to hold on to some stuff I find so that when I add folks to my party I can upgrade their weapons. But now I'm not recalling seeing a place to change out companion gear.

Nope, you can only upgrade their skills.

Tow was the opposite, you could chose the loot but not the abilities.

Are you playing on normal or rushing?

I'm more than 20 hours in and didn't even erased half of the fog of war in the second map...
Rushed last act, also lowered difficulty there since i was a bit bored of combat already, not skipping the main quest conversations obv but didn't explore nor do sidequests there, did all sidequests and totems on 2nd and 3rd and skipped 1-2 sidequests and some totems from first map.

Skipped some text on the filler sidequests about rescue, kill somebody, find somebody who's missing etc

The game not having a reputation/moral system made me not care much about the kind of answers i gave, not gonna lie

Ah.....ok. I got a lot of loot to break down then.
Before choosing what to upgrade, do an hard save, upgrade and try the weapons against a group of enemies to see how it goes.
Sometimes a build is more fun\powerfulp in your head than when you actually try it.

Resources are not so common that you can upgrade everything, at least not in the beginning.

I really hope they will fix the horrible controller aiming. I wont play this any further until im done with KCD2 so hopefully something will change by that time

It does get old fast, by map 3 i cant be arsed to play and do the same things one more time, the world is so boring, the npc:s are so boring, the lockpicking is so boring, the loop is the same and its a booring one. Its a really shallow action game with some rpg in in it.

Another really good QOL in this game is the transmog, you can have whatever piece with good stats equipped, but you can transmog another piece of armour that will be shown on your character instead of. Just a bit of fashion sense without sacrificing stats. I wish more RPGs did that.

I’m approaching it like Wizard DOOM with a dash of RPG on the side. The combat doesn’t move at all like RPG it moves like what I imagine a modern Hexen by ID would move like.

Although so far in the starting area I’m quite happy with side quests and writing, to be seen if it tanks later.

Sure am, you have 2 companions constantly chatting about whats happening, hub based zones, dialogue trees, and action combat with pause to dictate when to use abilities. Oh and the towns have npcs that just stand around as props.
Its Mass Effect 1.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Found this ah-mazing flaming knife somewhere in the northern part of the first map.

Not the most damage but it's fast, like twice as fast as the sword .. AND IT PUTS SHIT ON FIRE.

Really? I played a bit balanced with unlocked fps and it seemed like 30fps, i went back to performace mode with unlocked fps but still i am getting fps drops here and there.

Based on DF's testing and whatnot, Balanced is pretty much always locked at 40.

If you want to make it feel more consistent, lock the frame rate. Maybe the variances are making you feel like it's not reaching consistent performance.

That's what I'm doing, I'm running the game with Balanced mode and FPS locked, cause I don't want it to freak out with DRS and have a consistent level of visuals and performance all the time, which it seems to be doing pretty well.

Decided to pick this up on GP and I’m digging it so far. Like how densely packed it is. Feel like I’m running into a quest giver, a cave or a hidden chest every couple of minutes. Haven’t had a ton of time to play but looking forward to digging into it more.

Absolutely not, i finished it in 27 hours doing almost all sidequests except on the last zone where i just rushed, get 1-2 months on GP on a keys site for like 8€ per month and that's it.

Also it's not the kind of game you'll be playing again in months or years.
I have 10h playtime & I'm still in first zone 😂
Turning every stone & climbing every house or rock, diving in any river or sea, looking for totems, chests & side quests. Read & listen every quest, enjoying every minute of this lovely game.
I will not make same mistake as with Elden Ring, rushing it..... The moment I finish it there was only empty filling in me....like I lost something very special & dear to me.

I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or this game is supposed to be difficult, but after a smooth sailing as a start, I can't win any battles anymore and have to just run away. I don't know if it's because I'm a Wizard so have really weak defense or if I've been skipping the side stuff like upgrades and enchantments, but every time I wander off or fight a boss or even different enemies when I'm out exploring I'm barely denting its health but it kills me in like two hits. But even my healing items don't work. It does that thing where the bar is fully red, but half of it is light red and the other half is dark red. I still don't exactly get whats happening here, maybe I just skipped over the tutorial that explained it or something.

Should I be having this much of an issue with battles? I'm early on, level 7.
Surviving will be hard if you stick only with mage build. Be sure to upgrade your equipment, regularly & don't be afraid to respec your points & experiment with your build and gear.

One thing for sure, Bethesda should be stealing the combat system. Add in the physics based magic effects like Dark Messiah such as enemies slipping on ice, etc and you have something special. If there's any writers worth a damn left at Bethesda though which I fear..

Melee in Starfield was a joke compared to this

Money is well scarce in this.

Also it's easy to get battered even with two companions. I don't like the way only the boss health bar shows as well with all the adds.

I have a fine sword and fine cutlass but I still die way too easy

I have 8 hours and prob only a third of the first map. Wtf. This is not a 30 hour game

Oh boy .. I'm making some questionable decisions for my 'god', hope it doesn't end up biting me in the butt later in the game.

Just killed a fellow godlike, handed the statue he was making for *his* god to *my* god even after my companion showed his reservation against the whole thing.

The second grimoire you can find (Greater Elements) has AoE spells, once you have the blizzard spell to freeze groups and the fireball for aoe damage, things are much easier.

Otherwise upgrades for armor are very useful for survivability, as well as food buffs from camp.

I know it's a little thing, but having unlimited ammo is a great move for this game. I know it removes some of the depth other RPG's offer, but sometimes you just want to pick up and play and not have to concern yourself with such things.

I find the combat satisfying around using the bow and hitting the critical points.
The stamina gauge is great. I hope more fantasy games follow suit. Makes Avowed combat feel really unique

Have spent a few hours in the 3rd area. Still loving it. I like that there are companion quests, I've been working on Kai's and his really went places, pretty neat.

Right now I'm running with the animancer chick and the wizard chick, and still tearing things up (on normal) with pistol/grimoire combo + long rifle to switch to.

On the money vs. upgrading thing, I did have a bunch of uniques in my party stash that I was saving just in case I wanted to change spec, but sold a ton of it to buy a flashy new long rifle in Thirdborn. The thing is awesome, but only at close range, no sniping with it kinda sucks. However, being amidst a group of enemies and blasthing them with the rifle, then fast-switching to conjure an ice storm, followed by a fireball, followed by a charged pistol shot to the dome just wrecks things!

Don't sleep on the fast-switch skill in the Ranger tree. The first point speeds up loadout switching dramatically, whilst a second point in it makes any gun not currently selected reload in 3 seconds. Very damn handy for those with multiple guns.

Dawnshore or literally first map? Wasn’t first map tutorial zone? There was a fire knife??

I found fire sword but it was the result of a quest in dawnshore

First map after the tutorial area, the first major settlement and City area and the surrounding hillside and mountains.

Also I think I've also found that flaming sword and has dropped over to it, just a better weapon overall.

So far, the combat has been surprisingly my favorite part of the game.

I’m boring. I’m using a flaming sword and a shield lol. I found a sword in some cave after I
killed an oracle guy
. Though my other loadout is a pistol and spell book which is fun too

Today will probably be my last day playing a lot though since yakuza pirates drops tomorrow, so ima try and get as far as I can.

spent a TON of time exploring before unlocking 2nd companion

did I miss out by not leveling him/sharing XP with him? not sure how XP / companion leveling works and googling didn't help a ton

I think their points are based on my character level, so it shouldn't matter when I picked him up, right? he should scale to me

Somehow surprised at how good of a time I am having with the game. Still early on, so maybe I haven’t encountered anything worth complaining about. Playing 4k/Epic settings. Game looks good for the most part, but I really hate how UE5’s image breaks up at times.

I have gone in quite blind with this game. I feel like I was influenced by others opinions with Starfield and enjoyed it less as result. While I haven't enjoyed the static MMO like world or the story, the combat and dungeons are great. I hope Bethesda incorporates the combat system and do dungeon design into the next Elder Scrolls.
