One thing for sure, Bethesda should be stealing the combat system. Add in the physics based magic effects like Dark Messiah such as enemies slipping on ice, etc and you have something special. If there's any writers worth a damn left at Bethesda though which I fear..
They should also implement wound marks and gore, the combat feel good but beating up enemies without seeing a single mark on them or some limbs detaching in 2025 is underwhelming.

Money is well scarce in this.

Also it's easy to get battered even with two companions. I don't like the way only the boss health bar shows as well with all the adds.

I have a fine sword and fine cutlass but I still die way too easy
A cutlass? I only found one hand swords and 2 hand sword til now.

P.s. if you people don't wanna lose any loot, always keep the dwarf in the group and abuse his loot sonar skill.
Dude is duller than watching dry paint on a wall but his skill is vital.

Oh boy .. I'm making some questionable decisions for my 'god', hope it doesn't end up biting me in the butt later in the game.

Just killed a fellow godlike, handed the statue he was making for *his* god to *my* god even after my companion showed his reservation against the whole thing.
Being the villain seems to be the only way to make this plot even a bit interesting tbh, i did the same.

A couple of more QoL things in the game I really appreciate.

- you can send anything in your inventory to the camp stash anytime, which means even though there's a weight limit, you will never get encumbered cause you can just send stuff to your camp.

- you get essentially a free 'revive' from the start with a cool down timer, not a skill you have to unlock.
Double edged sword, nice for practicality, retarded for an rpg when you consider that one of the stats you can increase improve your carry capacity and some unique loot are all about carry capacity...in a game where carry capacity is literally a non-thing.

No idea how this passed betatesting in an rpg veteran studio tbh.

Yep, that doesn’t make sense. Unless the testers were complaining about being encumbered all the time and the ‘send to stash’ was a late addition.

Maybe they can patch in the option to enable/disable it?

They should keep it, and give the might stat another bonus that is not carry capacity, and change all the unique loot that has carry capacity as bonus.
Either way, what they have right now kind of sucks as it is causing me not to put any points in the might ability (even though it has other stats that I could do with buffing).

I like a good buff.

But it’s a small nag and isn’t detracting from my enjoyment thus far. To be honest, I’m having fun just exploring and stumbling across stuff.

What i don't like about the stats is that after a certain point, you only get 1% advancement, and this is not a game where you level up 200 times, i can see people finishing the game at level 20-25.

I find the combat very sluggish and unresponsive here at the opening area.

Am I taking crazy pills?

Does it get better?

Oh yeah

you’ll find a build you’ll like and there’s so much variety of speed that you’ll find what you like

Put a lot of points in dexterity initially as this is attack speed

With buffs some peoples have made ridiculous builds

So regarding the quest the young guy near the embassy gives you to check on the expedition

Is this a side quest?? I finally went over that direction and decided to check it out, was surprised that it just kept going. I expected to go into some cave and find some npcs or dead npcs, a bear or something, call it a day. But that place is pretty deep with a lot going on.. If this is a side quest, I need to make sure I find and do them all.

Is there a point of no return in the first map, an event that triggers that I would lose access to side quests or items? I'm kind of tiptoeing around main quest because I don't know if I trigger the new area.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

You will be given a story quest and objective "go here to travel forth" and you can return to the first map any time you want.

Be sure to help the whores out with their shipment first. Then when you find a young guy on that quest, you'll be able to send them back to town and the whores will be able to help him out.

I like the mood of the game, feels like fantasy game in distinct location

Yeah, some of the geometry, scenery etc has a very 'otherworldly' look and feel to it.

I don't agree with the folks who complained about the games art style. It's unique and distinct.

~30 hours in now. Still in 3rd area, having completed tons of side quests, and still have a lot more to go before tackling the MQ.

I found a Superb-level unique wand that has an awesome visual (it's like two wands intertwined with some animated frost at the end, sorry no pics). I then spec'd into Wand Mastery for +40% wand damage! I'm now a frost damage killing machine. Offhand is a grimoire which I mainly use for Fireball (also upgraded) whilst wearing a unique pair of gauntlets I found that give +15% to fire damage.

The trail of dead Xaurip in my wake is legendary.

Finished the Oracle quest last night. I saw parts of this quest during a preview. I hope I made the right decision. I made the Oracle off himself.
I'm getting the hang of the wand, I've already upgraded it twice. I've only found one uncommon item so far.
I like my green companion. He's fun. But I expect him to put a knife in my back at some point.
Does the menu system ever run out of exclamation points? :)
I think I'm settled in for the long haul. I like it.

Good deal. That first boss was wrecking me. I was straight up not having a good time
On console, performance mode made a big difference from quality, when I finally tried it. It feels like there is some input lag on quality but I dont know. Everything feels a lot more responsive on performance.

Yesterday, I finished the game, having completed 85% of its content -side quests, hunts, and discovered secrets.

Pros:

+Satisfying Combat Mechanics – Responsive dodging, weighty melee attacks, effective parrying, and enjoyable spellcasting. One of the best first-person combat systems.
+Meaningful Choices - Decisions in both the main story and side quests have a real impact and lead to different outcomes.
+Engaging Exploration - Vertical level design, secrets, simple puzzles, and responsive movement make exploration enjoyable.
+Beautiful Art Style - A unique, fairy-tale-like aesthetic with some stunning environments, especially at night.
+Solid Performance - Runs smoothly at high settings, with only minor frame drops in cities.
+Good Voice Acting

Cons:

- Weak Story & Dialogue - Hard to get into, overly reliant on Pillars of Eternity lore, and sometimes tedious to follow.
- Repetitive Combat - Enemy variety is extremely low, making fights feel repetitive and predictable.
- Lackluster Bosses - No memorable bosses, just regular enemies with inflated health bars.
- Difficulty Tied to Gear Level - The challenge is largely based on equipment rather than skill, making lower-level fights frustrating.
- Overabundance of Loot - Chests with loot are everywhere, but most of it consists of crafting materials, making exploration feel less rewarding.
- Static World - The game world feels lifeless, with no dynamic environmental animations
- No native HDR support and no dynamic HUD.

Final Verdict: 6/10

This game is demanding in VR, but a whole new level. It's seriously impressive. Seeing it in life sized scale is literally breathtaking.

In the first coastal city, I scaled a mountain and looked over the edge at the waves crashing below and it felt like i was there.

The bears are literally massive and intimidating as hell in VR lol. I approached one sleeping and it was just tense how gigantic it was. Seeing the high resolution fur texture up close in 3D and hearing it's breathe made my primal instinct kick in. I lifted up the VR headset to look at computer monitor to compare the same scene.

Night and day difference.

If you guys have the hardware to play this in VR, do it. You can use a gamepad, keyboard, or even motion controls.

The caveats are you'll need a 4070ti or better and do the UEVR option.

While the story isn't amazing, it's good enough and the combat is awesome. Actually reminds me of mass effect in a good way.

I wrapped it up this morning, an interesting game. More than anything it makes me want to replay PoE 1&2.
Like most people I enjoyed the visuals, exploration, and combat, but it really dropped the ball in some areas.
Was not a fan of the progression systems, and I wish they would stop dumbing these down for rpg’s, fps ones or otherwise.
Likewise for the upgrade systems, it’s hard to get excited for a hidden chest when 99.8% of the time it is just crafting mats.
The static npc’s are terrible.
Enemy variety is sorely lacking.

I did enjoy the story to a certain extent, but my familiarity with Eora via PoE definitely helped there. If you enjoyed the story/writing in this, definitely check out the original titles.

I paid $20 to access it early via gamepass and I feel pretty comfortable with that.

I saw one option for wizards that's like a magical spear. Is that the only option for a bound or magical weapon? I'd like to use that assassination forearm blade more.

Had dropped frames so bad last night on the one camp fighting about 8 enemies I thought my series x was gonna crash numerous times. I'm running balanced with unlocked frame rate and it was the first time I've had that happen after 10 hours of gameplay.

Should I switch to performance or lock the frame rate and stay on balanced?

I'm sticking with Balanced but FPS locked, for consistency's sake. Haven't had any notable lurches or drops like that so far in my experience.

In the DF video, they said that places where other streamers said they had dropped frames, DF did not, so there's some back-end variance causing it I guess.

Zone 2 looks unique from the first zone, that huge purple lighthouse in the distance probably gonna ruffle some feathers :messenger_grinning_sweat:

One of the grimoires has a Black Bow summoned magical weapon. Requires Grimoire Mastery III, which I haven't gotten to yet, so I don't know how well it works. Considering it's a more end-game spell, probably it's bad ass.

Was wondering about that. I’ll try it. There is definitely a delay the input
Learning to play the game better also helped, as I was still fumbling around a bit. I got wrecked first time on that boss, too. But changing to performance definately made the game feel better. Maybe a combination of the two.

Feel like I'm the only one in here using the best weapon greatsword®

I have been using the greatsword since i found a purple unique that cause bleeding but the gamestyle is too easy\basic if enemies are around your level, active the scream skill, a couple of hits to completely fill the enemy stun meter, fatality, rinse and repeat, maybe a parry or 2 in the mix...

I'm thinking about switching to double wands or trying magic because other than the meaty hits, greatsword is pretty boring.

Does anyone use the Grenades? I don't think I've intentionally used one in combat so far. They're just good for selling to me.

Some tough fights where skeletons spawn and there's healers or archers a level above me I've used them to stun. They're pretty OP for controlling a fight that goes to shit.
