It (Wukong) didn't even show up. I don't know if that's because it wasn't tracked at all (with not even a mention about it) or if it just didn't chart.

It's a revenue chart and Wukong cost less at launch than a lot of other AAA gaems on the list, especially those with a plethora of special editions.

Not charting in one territory in one doesn't mean it's a failure.

I wasn't calling it a failure at all. I was suggesting that it gained a lot of sales in Asia due to the popularity of "Journey to the West" there. It didn't show up in Europe's GSD or North America's Circana charts. Neither of them mentioned it either which is weird. I suspect due to tracking but the fact that none of them mentioned this is strange.

North america seems to be the region ps5 is doing much better then last gen.

Helps that Sony didn't raise the price on the disc edition over there. I think digital only got a price rise.

It's a Palworld situation. Circana and GSD have no idea what it sold so can't count the numbers.

It's definitely time for Nintendo to move on to next gen. They're just procrastinating, now. If they wait for Switch sales to be in the gutter, that's not going to help their chances next gen.
This holiday season would have been the perfect time for Switch 2.

Having said that, Zelda and the new bundles meant Switch was up YoY in continental Europe in September. Maybe the same thing will happen in the US.
The reallity is that WW sales numbers of PS5 and Switch are more closer that you think…

Europe+Japan sales are about the same MoM and in US, PS5 is just between 80k -150K above MoM, looks like in Asia the Switch is leading, in UK the PS5 is leading and in the rest of the world is unknown, i am pretty sure the PS5 is going to end the year above the Switch with just 1M-1.5M advantage, and taking into consideration the age of the Switch is not that big of an advantage.

After H1 the results are:

PS5 - 6.9 million
Switch - 4.06 million

For Switch to close that gap by 1.5 million is highly unlikely. The data we have so far indicates that PS5 is selling more than Switch each month, not less.

Because not as many people played it as those other 10 games. WuKong could have been the third best selling game of the month, and still not had enough active users to make those lists.

I’ve got no clue why Wukong didn’t make the Steam engagement charts. I expected it to. Palworld made it #1 in January and they are in a similar boat as far as not having sales data tracked. Maybe unique users was just less for Wukong in America versus the other big games or somehow the Aug 19th release date impacted Wukong if something like hours played in the month is a part of the metric. Hopefully it makes September’s Steam engagement or its absence is explained at least.

The PS list I can understand because it's those big juggernauts like Fortnite and Roblox that aren't Steam games but behind Risk of Rain 2 and 7 days to die on steam? Sorry but I'm just not seeing it unless US sales were particularly weak.

Star Wars Outlaws didn’t crack the YTD top 20.
It only had 3 days on the market dude. Released 8/27 and data is through 8/31.

More important imo:
  • DD 2 the 6th best selling game of the year. gg capcom
  • KtJL outsold both Spider-man 2 and GTA V on the year. Checkmate, nerds!

I think most of Outlaws sales would have happened in those four days, with the high priced early versions (chart is ranked by revenue), and the first days of launch. Why buy it two weeks after launch at full price after the mild reviews and reception? I’m sure people did but I’ve got to think 80 to 90 percent of the sales happened in August.
Do you think Outlaws will hit the Top 20 YTD chart once September sales are counted?

And yeah good job for DD2 this year. Shame it slipped from #4 to #6 but Elden Ring and EA Sports are sales beasts so what can you do.

Ubi games are known to drop 20%+ after 45-60 days so yeah, I think there's a good portion of people that are waiting for patches + price drop. Also WoM turned around pretty significantly after the first 2 weeks.
And it did hit #3 for the month, so I think it will crack top 20 for the year. Probably in the 15-20 range.

You understand they when you buy something it is yours? So none of the bungie guys inc. Marathon are to Sony benefit? With you logic, Concord is also not Sony’s, it is even worse, with likes of stellar blade(eg. Here the IP is owned by ShiftUp), flight sim, rise of ronin, helldivers 2 where publisher only pays 3rd party for development - so none of these were created by Sony or Microsoft. Question you should answer to yourself - who is now benefiting - making money from these games, who is putting money to support them etc. who owns the IP.

Firewalk was acquired by Sony while they were already were developing Concord. So it was probably the most relevant out of my examples to the post I was replying to as it is saying that games were in development before MS acquisition so these are not MS games.

Yes, this is exactly the way this forum works. So much easier to enjoy it when you realise that most here hate MS for everything, and love Sony and defend it regardless of what’s being discussed and best of all, some act as Switch doesn’t exist.

Really surprised with low EU sales even combined Xbox + PlayStation it is only 210k units. Might be because of summer holiday season in Europe. 368k combined in USA looks bit better but it is still lower than I would have expected.

That's because the data isn't complete as many countries in the EU are not included in the tracker.

Console hardware sales cover Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Italy, Portugal, Russia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. Accessories sales cover the same markets, but doesn't include Switzerland.

Well 7 days to die has sold over 18 million copies. Not all of that will be on Steam, but I think it's possible that the number of people playing it in the US is quite high.

18 million globally since 2013 though on multiple platforms, right ? I don't think that's particularly great or a sign of it being very active today. Didn't Wukong hit 20M+ in just 2 months? You'd think it would surpass it for activity in a month.

It was in early access then and came out of early access in July 2024. That was the game's biggest ever month for users on Steam and August 2024 was it's 2nd biggest month. So it was pretty active.

To be clear, I do think the game did best in China by far, but it could have also sold pretty good in the US too.
