So in other words you are cheerleading for the Sony corporation but somehow this is different than a person (on a different website no less) cheerleading for a different corporation. You were lamenting that PC made gains in the Japanese market because it’s bad for Sony, but now you are saying this isn’t bad for customers. Just be a cheerleader dude. There are plenty of you on here.
You realize I can speak from SIE's POV one moment and my own POV the next, right? Yes, PC growth in Japan is bad for SIE since it's mainly come at the expense of PlayStation market share (mainly with software sales). It's good for gamers in the region because if they're on PC they get more games on their platform now.
If Sony buys Kadokawa it's not bad for customers because the vast majority already have either one or more of the platforms that Kadokawa's games are on, and will continue to get those games if they stopped fearmongering about SIE taking the games away from a dying console platform, that usually contributed the smallest in sales anyway. It's good for customers because it'll mean more technical support for game development. And historically, SIE have been a lot better than Microsoft with managing internal development, growing their studios, and releasing quality games consistently.
Keep in mind I never even fantasized about SIE buying Kadokawa but if talks are happening, all things considered it's likely for the best if both parties want to go ahead with the M&A. Out of a short list of options, Sony is the best choice. Aside that I could see a merger with another Japanese publisher potentially working well (e.g Capcom, Square-Enix, Koei-Tecmo etc.). Other than those the options drop in good outcome considerably, the best out of that lot probably being groups like NetEase or Tencent, and the worst being basically
any Western investor group or publisher, especially Embracer (LOL) and Microsoft (also lol, and already burdened with too much to sort out between Zenimax, ABK, and smaller studios like Ninja Theory, Playground, The Initiative, Turn 10 etc.).
PS5 is going to be well into the 100 million unit range before the gen is done. Maybe 150 million. That's where you focus your resources. They buy games. Series gen will be lucky to hit 30 million.
Can't see PS5 hitting 150 million unless it's 10-12 year measure, especially if prices remain as they are. And Xbox Series will likely top out at 40 million, maybe slightly higher depending on how long they keep them going.
But of course PlayStation is going to be the priority for them, not even just in the console sense but with all platforms.
It says "PlayStation platforms accounted for 82% of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 total console full game dollar sales volume during the October tracking period."
Are we sure the PC numbers are included in that ratio?
You're right, I misread that part. My apologies.
