Am I right in thinking Motes of Light can only be spent on Xur Exotic Engrams (which is a lottey what class it is for), or the Speaker will sell you a costmetic item?
So, while it doesn't seem fair value, there isn't much else you can spend your motes on I don't think?

One and done, no repeating.. Depending on your level. The level 26 challenge is the best you can do this week, and that yields you 6 coins.

Shards or Energy?
Ascendant Shards are very valuable. You will eventually pick your favorite exotics to completely upgrade and it will very likely involve dismantling some legendary/exotic gear on the way.
Motes of light on the other hand are an infinitely earnable currency, one of the few in the game.

Oh fuck off Xur. Last week I got super salty for missing the Sunbreakers by 27 minutes and intead used some Vanguard marks to get me gloves. I expected the stock to be different this week. Now he's back with those gloves and everyone else gets something new. Fuck off Xur. Go back to RE4.
Yes, that's true but also Motes of light are also used in Exotic bounties.
I guess it doesn't matter for me largely, I already have the helm so that's it for exotic armor, so my Motes of Light would've gathered dust anyway.

Thanks. Just checked it out myself, but I only have 6 coins so I can't buy anything. And im away the whole weekend, gah. I'll just have to wait until the next weekend, hopefully there'll be some cool hunter gear then too.

Bought exotic engram, got exotic chest armor...and for my class! (Heart of the Praxic Fire - Warlock)
My only complaint is that it, like the gauntlets he's selling, are geared toward Sunsinger and I really prefer Voidwalker. That, and the base defense and light of the exotic is less than that of my partially-upgraded legendary. I already used 6 ascendant shards to upgrade that one - bad choice.

I thought he'd have a helm too. It sucks that everyone else gets new things but we get sunbreakers again. I didn't get them last week so I'll get them now, but I still wanted a badass exotic helm.

Only Armor. Am I the only one that thinks the Titan exotic chest piece looks really out of place in general in Destiny? I know it's meant to make you look like a commando but it really feels awkwardly out of place.

Some cool Gauntlets, but he also always sells a random exotic engram, this week it was a chest. I bought it on my Hunter.
I didn't even think about that, I was so excited to see what I got that I forgot it was him "giving" it to me.

It still has a slot function, so those engrams
will only make chest pieces. He may randomize which slot he offers for exotic engrams and we just happened to get it twice in a row (like Warlocks did this week).

Well the exotic gauntlets from Xur are better than nothing. Slowly creeping up to 26.

I really feel like I'm late to the party. I preordered the game, couldn't play last week because of work stuff, friends wedding and a bunch of other stuff and even though I had the chance to spend some time in the game this week, I'm a mere level 12 hunter. But it seems like nearly every other player in the whole damned game is at least level 22. How does everybody else do it?! No whining here, I'm in no rush, and quite content with running around Old Russia, but I just cannot fathom that so many people have to much time already put into this game.
