I’m pretty sure I’m on the extreme end of the spectrum when it comes to sandboxes with complex mechanics vs acardey games on rails. It’s almost offensive to me that I can’t even travel between areas. Somehow I’m still having a great time with it though, like GOTY contender.

Just goes to show how far things like polish, story, and music can go in a game like this. The eikon battles are super cool.

I agree with all of the gripes but it’s still a very well made game and I think it raises the bar for what modern Final Fantasy is. I do hope that FF17 lets you run between zones at least though I mean damn YoshiP.

Since im quite into the midgame, Im gonna say something that will get me lynched:
  1. I dont think the soundtrack is as strong as 15, I cant even say this is better than 13. Maybe just me since I dont really jive with Sokken's stlye
  2. 15's gameplay loop is more cohesive (the car->the dungeon/enemy base->camp->cook->lvlup)
but 16 is literally better at everything else lol.

So far it’s my favorite game of the year. But holy fuck I wish I could turn off the motion blur. It kinda gives me a headache. Part of the reason I never finished Type 0 HD. But this is an actual awesome game, unlike Type 0, so I’m pushing through the awful motion blur.

active time lore would fix ff13 problem with its story, just like that.
there is no fixing 15 sadly
Disagree... FF13's story has more problems than just people understanding the lore. Most of the game's scenes, especially between characters were comedic and just Nomura nonsense similar to Kingdom Hearts.

Ads at big train station here, I think this game is going to do huge numbers in Japan, the return of the King 👑

I agree it would be really nice to have a seamless set of zones that you can make your way through at the very least kind of like FF XII.

But as far as how they did things it's not all that bad, I do like in some of the areas they have multiple paths that may end up leading to the same spot but at least you could say take one way going and one way coming back adds a little bit of spice to it.

Overall those obvious gripes aside I'm kind of enjoying the way it's designed and laid out so far. I really like that there are multiple towns here, I feel so much better than no towns existing in just a bunch of hallway areas.

And they seem to have some space around them so it's kind of nice. In that regard so far it's better than I expected.

Nah. The story was fine in FFXIII. The big issue with the game was its linearity and combatg system. People like to give FFXVI shit for being easy, but FFXIII was literally press X for 90% of the story until you reached the side content near the very end of the game. maybe with the rare paradigm shift to heal/debuff

I dont know why anyone would want to equip those rings in the first place.
They are great accessibility options for those with physical disabilities or folks who are older and slower. And for mentally challenged game journos and "gamers".

They really do get much better. It's baffling they started the first few side quests in such an awful way I'm sure it turns off some players from checking them out later.

Not just the side quests, but the random NPC "talking" that you have around the areas. There is some wonderful growth in local characters and history, given the nature of the story. For Example
You see the buildng of a tutor hall, see children slowly learn ot read and adult bearers and see them fully learn how to read adn write over the course of your story.
. Its small, minor, but it is wonderful attention to these small details where the game truly stands out.

Okay after playing all day..I think I'm about 70-80% through the game. Just took out an Island. This game is even better than i initially thought it would be after playing the demo. I thought it would be rated 91 but right now it's a 93 for me.

Do not think of this game as an RPG. It's an Action RPG very similar to the first God of War but way way way more specticals especially during the boss fights.
The biggest weakness so far and I wish they completely removed this area and all the silly quest is the place where you meet your commanders wife and where you have to look for a guy to repair a bridge. If they completely removed that area out of existence, the game would be nearly perfect 70%-80% through. Also remove the dumb hideout side quests.

Yea, just a mindless troll who wants to bait those who are enjoying the game. I can compeltely understand the game being easy, but if you are actively using these rings you have no excuse to complain about it being easy.

I dont know why anyone would want to equip those rings in the first place.

Most people buying the game probably aren't even aware those are designed as "easy mode". If they haven't been following the game like some of us here, they'll just equip it thinking it's recommended or intended. At least remove them completely in "Action Mode".

I don't want to sound like an elitist, but my god...the rings just make the game much, much less fun. I can see a lot of people just getting bored from auto dodges, free healing, infinite revives with full potions and zero consequences.

They really made some mind boggling and questionable decisions with the game. I've never felt any tension or threat, not once. I am just playing the game for the story now which is a shame because the combat has A LOT of potential.

Yep, that is the game's biggest weakness - but honestly that is a very minor issue all told. FF7R also had this same issue and yet people love to say how amazing that game is lol (which it is, but people should at least be consistent with their complaints)

Having sunk some time into this - I think parts of FFXVI is kind of jank, but the highs of this game are so absurdly good that it manages to drown out the mundane/lows. I find myself wanting to push through the bad bits that I don't like just to see what's the next crazy eye candy overload part coming up.

LOL.... when you get to that area... I thought.... I wonder if people will say the same thing about this area as that famous area in Ragnarok that people hated and thought dragged on too long as well.

This game really feels the least Final Fantasy in the entire mainline series.
Really? The more I progress the more I’m convinced this is the closest possible experience to what Sakaguchi envisioned when creating titles for NES and SNES. It’s like being transported to the early 90s with all the modern touches in it. And it works!

Fought some A-rank hunt at level 30. It was level 38. It definitely hit hard. First fight that kept me on my toes since getting hit was extremely punishing with that level disparity. Was a well-earned victory.

Getting access to Titan’s abilities has opened up even more counter opportunities and it’s disgustingly fun.

Don't entertain it
It's just bitterness at this point

Yep. Once you reach the 9-ish hour mark, get your second Eikon - this game is as Final Fantasy as any other Final Fantasy game. SImilar writing style and setting to 2 and 12/Ivalice, same monsters, lore is quintissential final fantasy, weapons, bosses, summons. I do not know how anyone can claim this isn't Final Fantasy or the "least" final fantasy game out there.

Really the only thing that feels very limiting compared to other FF games is the lack of unique races. Sure, beast tribes are here, but its just Humans that we know of (unless that changes later on). No elves, bunny girls, cat girls, dwarves, etc.

Yoshichan

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
When you get comfortable with charging attacks during Magic Burst, the combos you can make are insane.
How? I’m using control scheme B.

Attacks are R1
Magic Bursts are R2

Charging attacks is either hold down R1/R2 which doesn’t work if you start magic bursting your attacks since both R1 and R2 are occupied?

I went back to controller type A after playing most of it with C. Rotating the eikons with triangle meant I would rotate by accident way too much when trying to use a skill

It was a little tough at first but by now the default controls are working pretty well for me. I'm able to hold charge magic or whatever while still doing combos or lunges etc, and I have gotten used to dodge placement on R1. It just had a bit of a comfort curve for me. But now I'm digging it.

About 4-5ish hours in, saw the initial announcement trailer and haven’t seen or followed anything else about the game and didn’t even know there was a demo. Not a huge Final Fantasy fan (or generally not too big on JRPGs)

I’m at the bit where Clive and Jill just arrived back to Rosaria.

Game is great so far, really into the story. It feels a bit like a Capcom game - and I don’t mean DMC because of the combat. It’s like Resident Evil, Game of Thrones, Monster Hunter and Digimon idk I get a very different vibe to this that I like. Action sections are epic, voice acting and music are top tier. I thought the combat would get stale quick but have unlocked Garuda and it definitely makes room for some creativity - I assume there will be a few other Eikons to mix it up too. It’s not as fluid as DMC, don’t know if this will change or not but would love if you could cancel moves, the animation for the dash move in particular is very long and he just hangs at the end of it - let me cancel into another move! The combat victory screens kinda just linger a little too long too.

I really don’t like how they just drop you into a hallway section and get you to run to the end of it to get to the next cutscene. Especially because (as of now) Clive isn’t particularly fast and there’s no way to sprint afaik. Would’ve been nice if, because there have been so many of these sections, they make traversal interesting like take it from Forspoken lol. The Map thing to move to the next chapter feels very clunky too.

look forward to playing more!

You can absolutely cancel some moves, theres a garuds one for example that makes you step back to avoid a hit then launch s counter attack, but you can cancel it after the stepback, that way you dont get any cooldown and can use it indefinitely.

Nah, for me that will always be IX, hell considering the creator said it’s his favorite FF speaks volumes.

XVI is great so far, but it’s definitely taking influence not just from classic FF but from other sources as well. That’s not a bad thing, but as such I don’t agree that it’s the 3D FF title closest to the 2D ones.

Just beat the S-rank dragon hunt. It was level 50 I was level 38. Very rough fight but I won. It has 4 abilities that can one shot you and a bunch of others that take you to less than 10% health. Last Dance scared the fuck out of me. You'll know it when you see it. ;)

This annoys me so much. I really wish they included it for first playthrough. At least even a hard mode
Amen bro. Any ideas if one will be able to obtain and use an online save from someone who has already finished he game to bypass this?

Are people really comparing the idiotic plot, pace and writing in the dogshit remake with ff16?

Well then.

I mean i can understand comparing the vanilla 7 with 16, but the fucking remake? Gtfo.
