16 hours in, still loving the game, but damn, you better not complain about any part of this game in front of its fans or they'll fucking flip. I dared suggest that the game was too easy at default and needed a hard mode option at start in a YouTube comment and was immediately shouted down with some of the most insane comments I've ever read in the internet.

Feeling similarly. I think the game is fantastic as a stand alone game, but this isn't what I've come to expect from a FF title. The action is fantastic, and the balance is spot on from the beginning. It gets a little bit harder as the game goes on, but even in action focus mode it's not so difficult that I ever felt like I needed the help accessories put in the game.

Clive really feels like a bad ass, and that's great. But now the disappointing aspects need to be addressed. The skills you can level up are quite basic, you can't control other party members except for Torgal, and that's very basic. After certain points in the game, Clive is suddenly adorned with new armor, accessories and weapons with no action from the player, making you feel like you are just along for the ride and not in control. and Jill, Cid or whoever is in your party just works independently with zero input from the player.

It really is just an action game and moves very fast, unlike traditional jrpgs, and is over way too fast for a traditional jrpg.

So yeah, I too have mixed feelings about what this game is, what it wants to be etc. but at least it's not XIII or XV, and that's a huge positive for me.

I do really like how early on Clive feels like the underdog, but through tenacity gets shit done against greater opponents.

Fucking anime out of its ass!

Amazing!

Far too easy but damn....the spectacle is amazing.

My only real complaint is its too easy and sometimes there's just too much going on all over the screen. Just a tad too busy. It works for what it's going for and I guess that'd why it's so easy but kinda just enjoying it as like I'm watching an anime series.

It's amazing how much better the side quests are later in the game. I'm doing the last bundle of them as I near the endgame, and there's one side quest that legit put me in the verge of tears, and it was all because of what went down, and the voice acting performance of the NPC. The voice acting in this game across the board is so damn good.

More than likely his people died out. Could have been part of the children of Dzemekys.

She did have a name and you just had to go to the lore menu to figure that out.

He is very old, he misses his mom - a child of Dzemekys who left and returned years later.
Yeah, I remember reading her name (just cant remember to type it) I meant when she showed her with Dion, she goes hi I cured you with my potions but doesn't say "I'm xxx" and Dion doesn't ask then tells Terrence to find a random girl and take care of her and give her coin but couldn't think of asking her name haha

As for Leviathan I guess he was lost if his people died out, it still seems like a big missed opportunity to me to just mention him once in passing without any other sort of importance, mightve as well just cut him down entirely, even tho he is in the cover of the collectors edition :p.

How old though? I would say he is probably around 70-80? Not super ancient I don't think since Ultima said itself it had been dormant for generations and Barnabas wouldve needed his power to stay young, so if hes a child of Dzemekys there could still be other even if the bloodline has thinned so potentially there's descendants of Leviathans tribe albeit not full blooded.

Its all speculation anyway since we dont really know if his tribe was lost or the dominant is very young/dormant/not chosen yet. I guess we might know in DLC, or maybe we will never know more so it doesn't matter haha.

I just finished the game and I'm 1 level before the cap (first playthrough, normal mode).
I've done every sidequest and killed all the hunts available. What should I do to level up one more time? Any best places to grind?

Also, where can I see my playtime? I've been looking all over but don't see it. I looked at my save file both in game and in the PS menus but it only shows the time I saved, not the playtime?

Also, my thoughts on the game now that I've finished it:
Harpocrates has my favorite voice in the game. He always sounds so wise, eloquent, and well spoken. I thought that Clive was a good protagonist and the cast was very likeable. Blackthorn the blacksmith was another one of my favorite characters. I also liked the way they treated dragoons (my favorite FF class) in this game. Whenever one shows up it's a big deal and you know you've got an epic fight coming up. The final boss was epic but wasn't "cool" like Sephiroth or Kefka and I don't think he'll be remembered well over time. I think the battle system is fun and well done but I do miss when FF was an RPG though. Back when your gear and strategy mattered more than reflexes and on the fly skill. I think this game is well made and there is lots of fun to be had, but I don't think it's as memorable as other older titles and I don't feel like people will look back on this one with the same nostalgia. Not just because it's new - for example, FF15 is in my top 5 favorite final fantasies and I think holds up much better in every regard (except graphics). Speaking of visuals, I think the game looks amazing. Sure it's lower resolution or framerate that many of us would have preferred but you can see why with the level of graphics we get. Music is nice but not memorable or catchy like older titles. I had a lot of fun with this one, but I would like to see the series go more classical next time if possible.

Also, about post game content - I understand that when you do new game plus the max level is doubled and there's new gear to get (makes sense, since you're leveling up) but are there any bosses or challenges that you can only face on new game plus mode?

One more thing - I'm missing 2 items from Clive's treasures collection... are those only available in new game plus?

Oh, also - are there any eikons on new game plus that aren't in the first playthrough? Is leviathan in the game?

Another question - I've got Harpocrates to level 7 alllllllmost at the very end. What more can I do to get it up to level 8? or is that the end?

There has to be some secret in this game involving that lost ruins door in the northern part of Rosaria, in The Dim. Right? Or maybe just some placeholder for DLC? Can't seem to find any info about it.
Clive does make a comment about it when you approach it for the first time.

I'm not very far in, just got my first alternate ability. But I have a question. Is it normal where I'm at to not be able to afford any abilities in the ability tree? After my initial upgrades, I can barely afford anything. Like one new thing every new area or two. They all are several hundred ability points to upgrade, and some over 1,000.

Also... there doesn't seem like a pressing need to use the blacksmith at all yet. The stuff I can get or upgrade are only a point or two better than what I have. Is it even worth upgrading yet?

Yeah the variation in quality of side quests is massive. A ton of fetch quests and then you have some Witcher 3 level ones sprinkled in so I am doing them all.

I ended up level 47 I think with some hunts left not sure whats left to grind really

I have all the items for clive wall of memories minus 1, the circle of malius you get that one by completing all the challenge stone tablets that are out in the field, fhe ones that resemble the training room

The other one I couldnt figure out is the medicine chest, you have to go back to the infirmary and speak to Tarja again after doing the quest to help her mentor die.

Leviathan is not in the game.

Just completed the game.

What a sad ending Clive deserved to live his life with Jill after everything he went through, I didn't quite understand Ultima and it's race was there only like 7 of them? With 6 sacrificing themselves to become mother crystals leading Ultima to be alone?

The ending can be interpreted as Clive surviving, specially if you do Jill's sidequest before the end.

For ultima there were 8 of them but they share 1 same mind, this is why he speaks in plural all the time. [/SPOILER]

Gotcha, did Ultima create humans and the mother crystals to absorb the world's aether to try and create a new world with said aether? It kind of went over my head 🤣

The general gyst as explained by Ultima is that long before there were humans, in a different land lived a race that could control magic, Ultima's race. But the use of Magic brought forth the blight (to use Magic you absorb aether from the land, thus killing it)

Doomed to extinction the remaining Ultima decided to leave in their spiritual form and ended up in Valisthea where they wanted to cast a big spell to "reset the land" to get rid of the blight, and so they put the crystals down on the land so they extracted all the aether possible. Then created humans, so from the humans 1 could be born that is fit enough to be their vessel (Clive). They need to possess Clive because they need a physical body to cast the spell and the body needs to be powerful enough to not fall apart doing so.

The spell wouldve reset the land killing all humans with it.

IMO eventually had they done it, they were doomed to repeat the same cycle because Ultima wasnt going to let go of Magic. Clive and Cid's solution was the only one that would allow the land to survive.

Thanks 👍 I got most of it right but I didn't clearly pay attention that Clive was the vessel to cast the spell and yeah ultimas plan was ultimately flawed, felt very "Zanza" like

Talk to Tharja for one if you haven't already. Then the other you need to do all of the trials.

Yeah I just did a really memorable one.
At the point of no return basically and for the last story beat or two I've looked forward more to the side quests than the main plot anymore. I rather like them, being they the characters and world are the best part of the plot for me these expand on that so I really enjoy a lot of them.

Story spoilers ahead somewhere around middle of the game maybe.

Cid died.. he was the best character in the game by far. As much as I hated Benedikta she had alot of depth to her too and now both are gone. And so Joshua is there but not there and Clive is now the Cid.. alot happens in bursts and they did a timejump.

But if I'm being completely honest, I hate the idea of killing Cid he was the most interesting and entertaining character in there.

Feels like the story has taken a nosedive all of a sudden as they killed off two amazing characters. Maybe I'm overreacting and hope it picks up again.

Ultima is a scary looking thing. I'm intrigued to know more about him and Joshua.

Side missions are mixed. I did two in Sanbresque and both set the tone of the universe just perfectly. Before this place most were useless sidequests but they paid so I did them.

Oh that's disappointing to hear.

Will there not be more new characters coming in?

I was looking forward to new batch of characters like the dominant of Sanbresque, more from the King of Sanbresque. The Waloed King also seems interesting. I was hoping to get more of them. If you could confirm without spoiling anything please do.

It's just an opinion. I don't think it gets worst and yes you will have more time with others characters

This game is a rollercoaster. On the one hand the visuals are often incredible and truly next gen looking. But at the same time the level design is straight from 20 years ago. It’s just Tunnel after tunnel with a cut scene in between. No exploration, repeating enemies that just wait still till you approach them etc. the world just feels empty and deprived of any soul.

The combat seams fun at the beginning but just gets boring after a while. You spam the same abilities over and over again. The skill tree is a joke and the enemies are way to spongey.

The smaller cut scenes are levels behind the main ones in terms of production value and visual quality on display. Other games like horizon forbidden west have already showed that this can be done much better.

I’m roughly 12 hours in and the only thing that keeps me going are the often beautiful level backgrounds…

I get what they tried to do with it. But as a narrative driven action adventure game, this is several levels below what all the Sony first party titles are achieving. It’s a shame. I really wanted to like this game

Personally found the top tier cutscenes and boss fights to be of higher spectacle and volume than anything I've played in a Sony 1st party game. Also unfair to expect this from a 3rd party imo.
This is a 35-60 hour game and once you get further in you'll see how the map connects and how locations or the world are bigger than first suggested.

Considering EA and Capcom get praised with games like Dead Space and Resident Evil etc.., sub 10 hour corridor games games, no NPCs, towns, no high budget cutscenes etc.. Same gameplay from start to finish, I think Square get unfair critcism and scrutinised too much despite making quite big games. They risk a lot of money for uncertain returns and don't play it safe.

Agree! People compare this to the original God of trilogy.

This game probably has a similar amount of content to all 3 of those games maybe more!

I agree. It does feel a bit too easy at times. And fans of any franchise can be touchy — Final Fantasy is definitely no exception. I mean, look at some of the Nomura diehards. They will kidnap your family for suggesting he is a poor video game designer or an average artist.

People should stop thinking Square Enix can afford that level of budget for its FF and games in general. They did a fantastic work with this game and managing it with the tight budget they’ve been given. Also you see same patterns in ff7r when it comes to side content, square Enix is not a ps studios and their games don’t break the 20-30 million copies so why we’re thinking they can have anything near to God of War, Horizon or even Last of Us. There’s an huge gap in budget at play here that should not be dismissed when reviewing the content. You are delusional if not.

I havent played the full game yet, just the demo but I felt like I was on God Mode most of the time. Plenty of potions too. I think FF15 was slightly harder. I remember fighting that giant turtle monster for 90 minutes lol.

There are three areas I found that you cannot enter at all yet. Two look very interesting. You get dialogue from Clive when you approach all of them.

I’m shocked that there’s no super boss available to fight after you complete the game. Also, locking the level cap on normal mode and trying to get people to do new game plus annoys me. I’ll probably play through the game again someday and when I do I’ll do new game plus, but I like being able to kill the final boss and then going straight into the post game content without having to play the whole 60 hour game again. The fact that new game plus doesn’t have a single exclusive boss makes me have no interest in it for now. If they do leviathan dlc, I hope new game plus isn’t required for it.

Also, as someone who likes to take screenshots,
I’m shocked that once ultima casts primogenesis, there’s no way to turn the sky back to normal for the rest of that play through

Also, is buying orchestration roles the only purpose for money once you get far in the game? I had the +25% gil accessory equipped my entire play through and now I’ve got hundreds of thousands of Gil with no purpose.

I finally scratched my grinding itch before the early G boss. . The game does seem really easy. I'm mostly basing this off of those summon battles. It also has way too many cutscenes it feels like. The game for me feels off. So far it feels like an FF14 pure campaign mission mode with less fluff and more battles which makes sense considering who made it.

So no one else here is having that high pitched chirping noise when Jill is in the party? First noticeable when on your way back to the Phoenix Gate?
It is so annoying :messenger_tears_of_joy:
I think it is some armor noise when Jill moved because it only happens when i'm moving around, and it stops immediately when you hit start.

Not at all. The story only continues to improve as characters become more developed as you learn more about them, the world, the situations they find themselves in and doing the side quests that just build, narratively, on each other until they culminate in powerful emotional moments.

I suggest trying out the Chronolith Time Trials that you unlock later in the game, to anybody complaining the combat is too repetitive and simple. You get rewards for doing this, but to complete them you're on a timer, and it forces you perform certain combos in order to gain bonus time. It forces you to step outside your comfort zone, try out different attacks/combos, and perform at your best.

Just finished the game. I enjoyed it a lot despite the flaws most people have all ready mentioned. The highs out weighed the lows though.
Wasn't satisfied with the ending, is there a secret ending to unlock?
I got to level 49 I think and there was a gap for 2 maybe 3 more Hunts but I have had my fill of the game.

Getting to level 100 is by no means necessary, but if you want to grind tha I found a prety fast place. Equip all 3 EXP accessories (Scholar Spectacles, and On Fortune and the Heavens I & II) for +55% EXP. Warp to The Shadow Coast. Chocobo to center of town with orcs, traning group 1. Get off chocobo near stairs, run and shoot 2, run back and up stairs and shoot 3. Gather them up in middle, Dancing Steel and then Zantetsuken. Sometimes they get too far and reset\run back to spawn, lowering you to744000 or 500kish but still really fast.

Can we just take a step back and admire the fact that SE has nothing but attractive women in this game? I just met the 'Dame' and my goodness, thats literally the 5th hot chick in the story already. Even lady Anna who is supposed to be in her 50s looked like a mid 30s MILF.

God bless Japanese developers. I love how men and women are all attractive in this game. No ugly people around. There is no discrimination. Cant believe this is even a point of discussion but its something we take for granted in movies and tv shows, but in games we are forced to look at fugly women for 20-40 hours nowadays. RE4 was a breath of fresh air, and FF16 is just taking it to another level.
