Exodus is a perfect song + video. I go on about it every time it comes up in conversation, but every line is dope in it's own right and then you hit rapgenius and realize that even the basic lines are double entendres that suddenly make it make even more sense in the context of the verse and slowly over the years more and more of the fuck ups in Wayne's camp have been vetted by the details in that song. Song is just too ill.

Jeremy Scott's all camouflaged
You can't hide it from yourselves, career sabotaged

3 million can't hide that
It shows in them homes, I done tried that

At Sean P's wake though

come the fuck on

Yeah man that's way out of line.

Yeah like you said before would've been a great way to end MNIMN.

I was shocked when I learned how many people not only love Pusha but see him as the current GOAT. I mean dude kicked a cool bar here and there but I think overall he's not a good solo artist; MNIMN has some cool tracks on it and yet these are not enough to warrant a solo album tbh

And fuck they should rename GOOD Music to Seinfeld Music Group because from Sean to Pusha these cats make music about nothing. Pusha is an adult with a stable financial situation and still talks about as often about selling drugs as Meek does about his platinum rolie.

BTW I think Pharrell is hit or miss. Some of the old NERD stuff just slaps

I hadn't heard of anyone saying that people considered Pusha GOAT of anything until I read this discussion.

I'm not disagreeing about the kind of lifeless production from Pharrell back in the day.

Yea don't get me wrong I don't think Push is an all-time great or anything but he has some songs, this one in particular, that just make you pause and go damn because he spit absolute venom

Bronson seems unfazed to me; more like "I kinda feel uncomfortable but holy shit dude what the fuck are you doing right now"

i hate pharrell's playskool percussion kit male twerk music

i hate the clipse discount ghostrae raps

i hate this britney spears steel drum by the numbers no lyrical flair drug raps

i hate that people front like turdpusher t is a GOAT

fuck em wamp wamp wamp

Don't really understand GAF-Hop's weird opinions on Pharrell productions in general. Like fawning over Alright (especially his feature) but calling him garbage otherwise was one of those bizarro moments in time when TPAB dropped.

First of all, I don't think their albums with The Neptunes are awful by any means. They're underwhelming for the most part. I can't hate on a track like Grindin', plus it's a pretty iconic beat. The Neptunes lose me with their percussion and some of the effects, which can become unbearable a lot of the time. Take a track like Wamp Wamp for example. A track with the usual braggadocio, drug dealing content Clipse tend to serve, but you got some tacky tropical shit going on in the background, along with the wack drums and he throws in a bagpipe because fuck it why not. It doesn't mesh to me. And a lot of the time that's their production in a nutshell. 'Tribal' percussion with overbearing effects and samples that feel disjointed. It doesn't even matter if it varies stylistically when I can't get over that trademark Neptunes sound, especially when some dudes are trying to sound hard over it. Occasionally they'll make something sound eerie, but more often than not it sounds corny.

Plus Pharrell's hooks are fucking awful.

And fuck Pharrell too. Dude's beats are like audio ambien. There's no life or energy in that shit. Seriously listen to this and tell me it's not like some Bossa nova Bubsy 3D music. Seriously I'm telling you Pharrell was one day playing videogames in his suburban home when he heard this and said "you know what, if I add some drums to this it's gonna be shway."

Well, I did manage to get a Neptunes discussion started, I guess.

You know, that playful, cheesy and videogame-y sound is exactly what I loved so much back then. I was 7 or 8 when I heard the first Neptunes-produced songs on TV/radio. It felt like someone took my favorite SNES/PS1 music and made pop and rap songs out of it. I've been the biggest Neptunes stan for most of my youth. Spent hours on TheNeptunes.org. Used the Neptunes drum kits when I started making beats with Fruity for years, haha.

I totally get why most don't like Pharrell's beats from 2006 onwards and his recent solo stuff, though. He had at least one or two beats on nearly every big Rap release of the last 10 years and they were trash 95% of the time. Still you have to give props where props are due. Neptunes changed the game sonically. So many hits and smooth R&B joints.

My favorite kind of Neptunes beats are those dreamy, flanged-and-reversed-strings ones:

Sean P took over the HipHopDX twitter account for a day a few years back. Got some good stuff: http://www.miketrampe.com/sean-price-took-over-my-job-for-a-day-it-was-amazing/#more-6610

"If I was a cop I would watch worldstar and then pick y'all motherfuckers up"

"Do u make money taping ya friend committing a felony and posting it"

"So u ain't making money you just a private investigator aiding the cops"

"Don't be bitch ass Chauncey in menace 2society get rid of the tape fam"

Man I can't get down with this, 2013 was one of the best Neptunes years yet and it was primarily P solo:

Love is the Answer by Aloe Blacc
Blow (with Timbo!) and Superpower by Bey
Twerk It by Busta was on the old futuristic vibe
Look Up by Daley
Burgundy for Earl was him and Chad together finally and was amazing (Chad did the jazzy outro to Chum too)
Oceans and BBC by Jay
Aim High by John Legend is incredible
Objects in the Mirror by Mac Miller is on the same vibe
the 4 tracks on the Mayer Hawthorne album(!)
4 tracks on Miley including Rooting for My Baby which was great
5 tracks on Nelly album (including Shake Whatever which has that old school SNES sound)
Doing the Most by RDGLDGRN was great
Feds Watching
The Problem by Nore
Cookieman by Maxine Ashley
3 on Kelly Rowland (Stand in Front of Me is great)
new Kenna
the Spiderman soundtrack with Hans
Chad doing the MSSL CMMND tape
The Internet track
Happy + the Daft Punk songs + Blurred Lines
World of Red Bull is one of the best P beats ever
SNITCH and Suicide by Pusha (Revolution too)
Fall Back by Gucci
Scream by Cee-Lo
Destiny's Child + Jennifer Hudson + features on Bruno Mars and Tyler + remixes of The Weeknd and Woodkid...

If 95% of that is trash then I don't see how you ever liked The Neptunes tbh.

it's not 95% trash but it's a large amount...

glad to see i don't have to defend pusha in here anymore lmao hhnf is a classic, to me, but there is only so much clipse you need in your life and no one needs 40 year old pusha still rapping

Shout outs to only counting Pusha's pockets and having no care for recounting experience.

Pusha has been rapping for 17 years now.
Name me some rappers going for over a decade whose subject matter hasn't become repetitive...?
Or name me some rappers who have consistently improved over such a long span of time...?
