Going back through Jon Connor's mixtapes and music. Damn, I forgot how good he is. I'm looking forward to
never
hearing his next album with Dre.
Never been too impressed with him. He can rappity rappity with the best, but is a low tier song maker and would need an overbearing producer and executive producer to make a worthwhile full project.

Oh my god, I somehow just saw that Sean Price died a few days ago...I'm unbelievably depressed right now. One of the best rappers ever and in my top five. Will do nothing but listen to every Heltah Skeltah and Sean Price solo album today...

Man I can't get down with this, 2013 was one of the best Neptunes years yet and it was primarily P solo:

Love is the Answer by Aloe Blacc
Blow (with Timbo!) and Superpower by Bey
Twerk It by Busta was on the old futuristic vibe
Look Up by Daley
Burgundy for Earl was him and Chad together finally and was amazing (Chad did the jazzy outro to Chum too)
Oceans and BBC by Jay
Aim High by John Legend is incredible
Objects in the Mirror by Mac Miller is on the same vibe
the 4 tracks on the Mayer Hawthorne album(!)
4 tracks on Miley including Rooting for My Baby which was great
5 tracks on Nelly album (including Shake Whatever which has that old school SNES sound)
Doing the Most by RDGLDGRN was great
Feds Watching
The Problem by Nore
Cookieman by Maxine Ashley
3 on Kelly Rowland (Stand in Front of Me is great)
new Kenna
the Spiderman soundtrack with Hans
Chad doing the MSSL CMMND tape
The Internet track
Happy + the Daft Punk songs + Blurred Lines
World of Red Bull is one of the best P beats ever
SNITCH and Suicide by Pusha (Revolution too)
Fall Back by Gucci
Scream by Cee-Lo
Destiny's Child + Jennifer Hudson + features on Bruno Mars and Tyler + remixes of The Weeknd and Woodkid...

If 95% of that is trash then I don't see how you ever liked The Neptunes tbh.

I was mostly talking about the beats on rap releases in '06-'12. The Pop production was on point most of the time. But even from what you listed from '13 not much stuck with me. BBC is the type of Pharrell beat I absolutly can't stand anymore f.e., and many of his Rap production sounded like that for years. I'm not going to pretend I haven't hummed Happy, Blurred Lines, and the Daft Punk songs all day, though. I listened to G.I.R.L.S. for maybe two weeks and never felt the urge to go back (Gust of Wind and Gush are great). I was really happy to see him finally getting mainstream success as a solo artist too but maybe I felt oversaturated after the Happy/Daft Punk craze.

And yo, just because I don't like his recent work as much anymore doesn't mean I've never been a fan. Neptunes were one of the most important influence on my taste in music next to Dilla, OutKast, Madlib, etc. and a huge part of my childhood/youth. In Search of... is one of my all-time faves and I'm still blasting my pre-2006 Neptunes mega-playlist with the Kelis, Clipse and Timberlake albums, hundreds of unfinished/unreleased tracks and demos.

Well a lot of the stuff I listed is rooted in the past and seems almost made for the old fans in some instances.
The RDGDGRN and Meyer tracks are pure N*E*R*D, one of the Miley tracks is from the In Search Of sessions, one of the Nelly tracks is an unused beat from the scrapped N*E*R*D album, the John Legend track is originally a Jamie Cullum track from 2005, etc...

So when somebody loved the old stuff, I can't see how you couldn't get anything out of the new work (or think it's trash). Some of this stuff is really consistent with the 'golden age' shit.

Anyway respect on being an ISO fan, I got a framed, still sealed vinyl next to me as I'm writing this :lol

“I had between 20 and 40 songs for Detox, and I just couldn’t feel it. Usually I can hear the sequence of an album as I’m going, but I wasn’t able to do that. I wasn’t feeling it in my gut. So I really thought I was done being an artist.”

Pusha has been rapping for 17 years now.
Name me some rappers going for over a decade whose subject matter hasn't become repetitive...?
Or name me some rappers who have consistently improved over such a long span of time...?

Agree to a point. I think most older rappers, especially those 10 + years in the game, face the same reality. Cover new subjects and fans want the old stuff. Cover old material and wow he never evolved.

That is why largely each great artist's best work is their first 2-3 albums. They run out "new" things to talk about unless they are growing outside of rap as people as well.

That said Pusha T is more repetitive to me because that's seemingly he ever talked about. Jay, Nas, and others always had more varied material to begin with so even if they go back to the well it doesn't seem as boring.

Plus they are better artists overall all day any day.

Apparently CyHi admitted he just did Elephant in the Room for buzz and was given the beat from Kanye, Ye helped with fleshing out the idea, got Pusha's permission, etc.

that chance track wasn't terrible

It was a love/meh thing from what I remember. Also it was released early in the year so.. you know how that shit goes.

yup
its a two-edged sword though; watch OT lupe stans say that's why T&Y doesn't rank higher on AOTY lists

And fuck Pharrell too. Dude's beats are like audio ambien. There's no life or energy in that shit. Seriously listen to this and tell me it's not like some Bossa nova Bubsy 3D music. Seriously I'm telling you Pharrell was one day playing videogames in his suburban home when he heard this and said "you know what, if I add some drums to this it's gonna be shway."

soon as my dude cited bubsy 3d im like "this man bout to link to an uli video"

Apparently Sean Price's brother is calling Poppa Wu out for that bullshit on instagram and say he needs to apologize for bringing that bullshit to a wake.

good, shit really was outta line...not the time nor the place and poppa wu knew that

Everyone around Ghostface needs to grow THE FUCK up. Incredibly disrespectful, disgusting

who else around ghost is pulling this fuckery though?

Sean P took over the HipHopDX twitter account for a day a few years back. Got some good stuff: http://www.miketrampe.com/sean-price-took-over-my-job-for-a-day-it-was-amazing/#more-6610

"If I was a cop I would watch worldstar and then pick y'all motherfuckers up"

"Do u make money taping ya friend committing a felony and posting it"

"So u ain't making money you just a private investigator aiding the cops"

"Don't be bitch ass Chauncey in menace 2society get rid of the tape fam"

hate that im learning so much of this type shit he did after he's gone...RIP

That's what's hot in the GOOD music kitchens?

Fake 'concept' diss tracks?

GOOD and all associated affiliates are in the midst of the slowest shark jump in rap history. They couldn't even flame out properly, which is ironic.

The only thing lamer than wack diss tracks are label-sanctioned fake wack diss tracks.

Go work with Meek at Applebees if that GOOD Music ghostwriting check ain't good enough, Cyhi

Anderson .Paak's performance on Compton is incredible, most surprising thing about the album to me.

Eminem deliveries his expected awful verse.

Kenny going in.

Overproduced in places.

Some songs are meh, usually due to a shit feature or the overproduced thing.

Overall it's great.

It's groundbreaking. I can imagine small minded people not understanding it, but free and artistic minds will fuck with it. It's all about product. The product here is beef. They cooked it together, sliced it up Chef Ramsay style, and served it to the masses. This is arguably the greatest beef of all time when you consider how much thought and art went into it. There was no art to be found in Takeover or Ether or Hit Em Up. Steve Jobs wouldn't fuck with Takeover, David Stern wouldn't fuck with Ether. But people who understand product can look at Elephants and see it for what it is: the iPhone of beef.

diss tracks are almost always manufactured marketing. GOOD Music just taking it to the next level

Can you imagine the fucking wankery in that songwriting session?

Cyhi : "So like this new Elephant... It's like i'm coming at you.... but i'm not really coming AT you, namsayin. It's like a metaphor, nahmean. For my progression from like behind the scenes to the forefront of Good music. I'm trying to step my career up to the next level"

Pusha:
YN2skak.png

Kanye: "That's genius man. It's that type of you know, metaphor, that I know you're so gifted at, like on New Slaves. You like, show the people how good you are with that and the rewards will come man.So you still want that flat two color album art? One color background, one color lettering? All caps? Same font?"

^ lol this is so forced. Rappers venting frustration coming at everyone in close proximity is hardly anything new/novel. And I mean it was tweeted by Pusha when it came out too. Creatively there's nothing wrong with it, it's only corny because dude admit to it so quickly and killed his own buzz, before he hit the press circuit so it's a null proposition.

Yo gonna be in Columbus tonight at Double Happiness if you're out and about we could meet up.

Haven't heard about this place before, seems pretty cool. What type of venue is it? Bar, restaurant, club? Are you up here by yourself?

edit: I should mention it's my friends birthday today so I'm not entirely sure if I could swing a meetup tonight, it's up in there air atm. I'm not sure why we haven't swung something yet, at least beer tasting or something.

Yeah, it seems like every other week somebody is releasing a new boss approved, in house diss track with the frustrated rapper seeking approval like the lone white dude at a ghetto block party.

EDIT: A belly ring? Meek needs an intervention. Dude is clearly depressed.

It's Papoose responding to Control tier "look at me!" tactics.
