Master Chief
Each console gen launch has been bigger than the previous for Sony I believe. PS2 had monster sale numbers but launch was a fraction of what PS3, 4, and 5 were. It just isn't the same market anymore. The demand up front really is that crazy.Based on what? Market hasn't grown 2x from PS3 to PS4, why is it so from PS4 to PS5? Especially considering how strong Nintendo has been and how Microsoft has at least a hail mary for now.
It's the elasticity of demand over time. Each console launch has seen more inelastic demand in the first few months. Wait it out for two quarters or so, we'll see what the PS5 sells vs PS4.
If Sony could snap their fingers and meet demand as it stands today they would outsell Switch in Nov and Dec easily but come Feb, Mar, Apr Switch would be back on top. Switch has a lot of momentum and a ton of appeal beyond the PS/Xbox market. It'll put up the numbers over time.
This is a decent visualization. Sales and not demand, mind you but it tells part of the story. You see the initial sales in the first two months, and then things level out with big spikes for Christmas and the big November launches each year.
