I don't anticipate directs going away.

I think Nintendo was in a scenario where release plans got shuffled around and they wanted to be flexible to releases. Similarly third parties were making their own release decisions. I anticipate a return to more a regular announcement cycle in 2021. I don't think the Twitter reveals had nearly the same impact or reach as the direct format.
I mean, Paper Mario, Pikmin and Hyrule Warriors were quite successful.

Honestly ever since the Switch reveal and success my opinion of Directs has been that they're unnecessary, sure they're fun but Nintendo can just drop a video one day and the word will get out about it just fine, if that's the case why bother with Directs? this year, to me, has shown that they truly don't need them and think Nintendo's starting to think the same.

Yes-they sold well. I meant from more of a generating conversation point of view. I think the directs tend to generate a little more buzz and get people talking about even some of the smaller announcements. I thought Paper Mario and Age of Calamity got decent exposure but it felt like Pikmin got a little lost in the noise. Maybe they can stick with the Twitter reveals but I hope they can do a little more to make sure even the smaller projects get a little more exposure.

Been playing Doom Eternal on gyro controls all day.

Max sensitivity + no auto aim on tabletop (detached joycons) is god-tier. Why every console FPS doesn't have gyro aim I'll never know - especially since the ps4 controller has gyros built in!!

I'll definitely be getting some more switch FPS that use Gyro - sucks that the BioShock collection doesn't. But Metro and Wolfenstein do, should be amazing to play those games this way

Yeah, I've been preaching this since BOTW gyro aiming and Splatoon full gyro movement. Then Doom 2016 came and perfected the playstyle.
Basically because of how gyro is graphics blur just doesn't matter much.

Looks like they pushed a small system update last night.

Ver. 11.0.1 (Released December 10, 2020)
Corrections for the following problems that occurred with system update version 11.0.0:

  • Corrected a problem where some games couldn't be played correctly.
  • Corrected a problem where, in combination with some TVs, the image would not be displayed in TV mode and an error occurred.
  • Corrected a problem which changed how the Control Stick and the C Stick on the Nintendo GameCube controller responded.

That's an excellent point. I know most of mine just sit on a shelf so I can look at them occasionally.

I buy them religiously, but barely use them. Age of Calamity is the most I've used them in years. Most of them I get just because I've enjoyed collecting them so far

Did we get any further info on Bowser's Fury? I'm happy to have a 3D World port, but I'm really curious about whatever the extras are in Bowser's Fury.

Not that I've seen yet. I'm pretty excited for it and the snippet from the original trailer makes it look interesting, but literally nothing even hinting at what it plays like yet. I did already preorder the Amiibo though lol

No solid information on Samus but I expect a 2D Metroid next year (hoping for Metroid 5 rather than a remake).

I hope its a new one as well. Honestly the only two Metroids that needed to be remade have already been done and both really well. I honestly think Zero Mission might be one of my favorite games in the series and I really enjoyed Samus Returns. Super Metroid I think stands up pretty well and I don't think it has anything to gain from a remake. I would love to see Samus head into a universe post Metroid Fusion cause I really would like to see how they deal with the story ramifications of that game like her pissing off the federation.

Next year is also Metroid's 35th anniversary and while I'd be surprised if they made an effort to make a big celebration for it it seems the cards might be lined up for it. We know Metroid Prime 4 is in development, but who knows how far along it is and if the rumors are to be believed you also have that 2D Metroid and then the Metroid Prime Trilogy has been supposedly sitting around just waiting to be released.
