Having only played Super Mario 64 in the past, I've been working my way through 3D Mario games these past months. I saved Sunshine for last because of its less than stellar reputation, and yeah, it's noticeably worse than the rest of the bunch. It's janky and somewhat buggy at times, and how they expected people to find all the blue coins without a guide is beyond me. Still a pretty fun game most of the time, but it doesn't have that Mario™ polish.

Happy new year!

So, I’ve never played Smash in my life and got this strange impulse to try Ultimate out but am still heaitant because I’m not sure if it’s for me.

I love fighters, always have, my faves being SC, Mk and samsho, but I never seem to get much mileage out of the ones I already have for various reasons.

I see Smash Ultimate is packed with content but I hope that content is also fun to go through.

Tldr: Sell me on Smash guys.
The OST of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate alone is worth the full price imo. If you love fighting games, and you've never played any of the SSB games then you should to get this and give it a try. The Classic and Adventure mode will keep you busy for a long time probably 45-60 hrs if you want to fight everything with every character and aim to unlock all the content. I had to grind through Adventure mode with the sole purpose of unlocking the music tbh, wasn't a huge fan of what they did there, but I do like Classic mode a bit. The competition online is the best part about the game, there are some amazing players out there. I have a Zelda main on my friend's list who's played this game for about 2.2k hours and his/her Zelda is unbelievable. Seeing all the Nintendo characters + others and enjoying the soundtrack is the best aspect for me. I got really into it for a while and got super competitive but decided to play most single player games. If you have people around often or are competitive and like playing online the game is going to grow on you quickly, you'll get better and better. Most people play hundreds of hours with this game; think I'm at like 400 something hours. Very well made fighting game. Only two things I would have hoped for is for them to have brought back the little history or short summaries of all the collector items (in this game they're Spirits) as well as the ability to jump into spectating a match the moment you enter an arena for online play (you have to wait until the match is over)

I'm not the best at selling SSBU, but the game is excellent

Played some of the Crash Team Racing trial, my overall impression is that it's good but not beginner friendly and could be a bit grindy.

Roster is impressive with 50+ characters, a lot of them are bonus and require coins to get them it seems, non-bonus characters are gotten through other means. Their are a ton of character skins too and cart customization is also pretty good, sort of a mix between Mario Kart 8 and DS since you can change the emblem on it.

The drift mechanic is weird in this game, even compared to cart racers that aren't Mario Kart and you actually really need to understand it because the game doesn't mess around. The CPU's will easily beat people that don't understand the drifting.

Adventure mode is basically the same as Diddy Kong Racing's with a hub area to drive around in, although I don't think it has secrets or at least none that I have found but the idea of it is the same.

Tracks are decent and fun to race in, again though, since the drifting can be a bit weird, it'll take some time to get used to racing on them.

Oh and load times are pretty rough, had enough time to take a couple bites out of my poutine before races actually started.

Overall, I think it's good, but the big issue for me is the drifting, I'm wondering what others think of the racing tbh.

I have 155 hours in CTR on Switch. When I started playing I had never really touched CTR before, and I was as confused as you are about the drifting and handling of the vehicles. It seemed awfully clunky and completely unnatural. It's way more skill-based and challenging than any Mario Kart. CTR's image as a kid-friendly kart racer is mismatched with its hardcore mechanics. If you can master those mechanics though, it can be more rewarding as well.

I'm kind of done with the game since I've participated in all the events, and there's no new content coming. I unlocked all the characters I care about, as well as numerous skins, vehicles etc. The best way to grind is through online matches during the weekend, when you get multiplied coins. The rate at which you get these coins is still very low, and it feels kind of predatory since you can purchase stuff outright with real money.

I think that, if you're interested in a more hardcore kart racer, you're willing to put in the time and effort to master its mechanics and participate in the events, it's definitely worth getting for 20 bucks.

Just a few points/rant with the current state of Nintendo:

I know there are rabid fans of Animal Crossing, Pokemon and Smash Bros but I'm sick of hearing about/seeing them as if
they're the only games Nintendo works on.

I'm not a fan of those three franchises so it's especially frustrating to see the heaps of backing/work Nintendo puts into those games
while other I.Ps they own languish.

I've also grown very impatient with Nintendo. I haven't played my Switch in like 6 months. Obviously with 2020, the pandemic screwed
Nintendo good but damn they've basically stuck their heads in the sand and forgot about the millions of customers who enjoy a more
robust line up instead of AC, SB and Pokemon.

Nintendo, let's get going here. The Switch hardware is beyond dated now(IMO) and needs a powerful refresh(i'd settle for 1080p/60fps) performance
at this point. There's no excuse in today's current hardware situation for a company to be releasing games that are sub 1080p along with shoddy performance.
There refresh needs to hit 1080p/60fps per game, every game at a minimum.

F-Zero, Pilot Wings, Wave Race, Star Fox are basically dead. Yeah, Star Fox on Wii U I know but it seemed like a failed tech demo and wasn't fun to play(my opinion of course).

I mean does anyone else out there feel similar?

Nintendo doesn't put any work at all into Pokemon and Smash Bros. Those are made by Game Freak and Bandai Namco.

I share you frustration, but I don't think the cause of the situation is Nintendo only focusing on certain franchises.

Ever since the pandemic brought so much uncertainty, Nintendo had limited almost all their marketing to the very short term, the next 2 months or so. The only exceptions to this are 3D World (due to this year being Mario's anniversary) and New Pokémon Snap (as the Pokémon company run their own marketing)

Smash, Pokémon, Mario, Pikmin and Zelda were the franchises talked about be those were the ones with content released in the 2nd half of 2020.

With Nintendo now being used to working from home and having a but more certainty in their line up, I'm expecting this year to be way better and they should have given a big reveal to at least some of their 2021 plans by the end of February (the fabled return of the Directs).

Only games from EPD studios are made in house.

Back to the topic, sometimes they're just not confident to successfully resurrect buried franchises with a solid idea on the overall gameplay gimmick, like Advance Wars.

I think I'm the only man in existence that does not care about MH.
Have you tried one of those games? A year ago I didn't care for it either, but a friend forced a copy on me so I kinda had to play it with him, and I quite like it now. Looking forward to Rise.

Still, we don't know much about the rest of this year's line up. Hopefully Nintendo does an early direct in february or march that outlines things. It was so good when they just announced everything upfront when the Switch reveal event happened. I wish they'd do that more often. They probably won't though.

I tried all of them. My "friends" always forced me to try them and I hated them after a week. World is the last MH I played and I'm sooooo done with that series that handles worse than Code Vein.

Nintendo have been slow as fuck releasing games. If you didn't like animal crossing then 2020 offered nothing at all. Pokemon sword fucking sucks and is the worst RPG I've played in at least the last 5 years. The joycons feel like trash tier fisher-price knockoffs, no friends list functionality, sub native resolution games. The switch had BotW, an ok 7/10 zelda and fuck-all since.

I'm sorry but just play other games that are in your interests, Switch platform or not. Not enjoying the Switch? Sell it.

I just finished Okami (on Steam, not Switch, sorry not sorry); and while I still don't really see where it gets all its praise from, it somehow made me really want to play Sakuna.

I remember someone here got it, but I'm not going to go back Hylia knows how many pages to find who that that was, and I'm sure they were not the only one anyway, so, how is the game? Does it run well, or is the Switch version just inferior to the PS4 and Steam?

That was me. I didn't notice too many technical issues (outside enemies falling through objects for example), obviously it's not going to look as good as on the other platforms and the framerate won't be as stable as on PC of course, but it honestly never bothered me.

The game itself is...well, you can definitely tell it was made by 2 people in a way. It's impressive that they could do that but that doesn't really mean jackshit to you as a player. The enemy variety is far too low, boss battles get repeated, the rice farming is pretty tedious but not a dealbreaker, areas look a bit basic and require a fair amount of retreads. The combat is great though and it has a lot of soul, but I personally felt that they tried to stretch the game out too much and so it ended up overstaying its welcome with me.

Did finish it though, so if the setting interests you and that kind of gameplay is your thing, you could definitely do worse but at the same time I didn't feel it was all that great either. I'd probably give it around a 6.5-7/10 now that I completed it. But that's just my opinion in the end.

Not sure about this, but Kingdom Come Deliverance Royal Edition could be heading to Switch next month. Nintendo Japan lists it is an upcoming game...

One of my all time favourites but how the absolute fuck will they get this running on a Switch? My laptop used to be absolutely boiling when playing it.

I told people PS4 ports would never happen on Switch, and that it was outright comical. I told people Doom was a rare thing, and probably never happen again. I laughed at the idea of the Witcher 3 ever coming to Switch. I said Ori 2 was collapsing even One X, and was an impossibility for Switch. I said Doom Eternal would likely be a disaster. And a bunch along the way.

Learn from me.

By the way, I don’t know if there’s much time left on the Crash Team Racing NSO full game free play, but there might be enough (like a day or so?) for you to get a good taste of it. I really recommend trying it — it’s quite fun and Diddy Kong-ish, as someone who never played the PS1 version.

I got it for the wife for Christmas to add some variety given she destroys me on Mario Kart. I will eventually report findings.

Hello Nintenchads!

Whenever my friend who is a Nintendo fanboy posts a picture of food, or anything unrelated to Nintendo, he'll make sure to sneak in a picture of something Nintendo related in the corner of the picture to remind everyone of the greatness of Nintendo. It'll either be a switch, or amiibo or a Nintendo related merchandise.

This is how much he loves Nintendo and his way of promoting Nintendo products. In this case, to remind everyone to get a Switch if they haven't. And to get another switch if they already have one.

Genius level marketing.

Okami's style and art always make me want to give it another shot and those desires are quickly quashed by the celestial brush and the combat.

There's a lot of things I could complain about, but the Celestial Brush definitely isn't one. I thought it was an interesting system, and worked very well for me.
I was playing with a pad, I had to switch to the mouse a couple of times though (drawing the "kami" kanji on the kimono, and... it made drawing the lightning bolt in Gen's tower easier. Also on that goddamn Blockhead Grande, because I needed to hold the phone to watch the video I recorded of its weakpoints at the same time :messenger_pouting:).

I think I'd put the mechanic as an interesting concept that is entirely tedious (proud of myself for not using "drawn out"). It was like a precursor to most motion controls. It just felt like they replaced what could have been simple button presses with something more cumbersome. Considering the length of the game, that's a huge negative.

Not everyone can be born with impeccable taste. Maybe he missed the stunning visuals, interesting Japanese mythology, and wonderful characters. Maybe the amazing combat and unique brush mechanics were lost on him.

Jokes aside, I know Okami is a somewhat polarizing game. It's certainly not for everybody. As for Sakuna, Tekkie's thoughts pretty much mirror my own. (Since we're the same person.)
