I guess it's so you don't just hide forever in the water, but with how tall grass works I'm not sure there's much of a point.

I do like it lowers your model though- managed to loot the corpse of a goose that fell in the water with it.

no. iirc Nil highlights that "rules are important. a structure. a cage" that's how he puts it. he wouldn't hunt innocent people. at worst he would challenge willing hunters to death duels like he did with Aloy. anyways, not fighting him is the best course of action because he comes back later on to help with the final fight.

you guys killed the best npc in the game. you monsters

Did you see how
sad he was when you choose to refuse? It had to go down

in the Cauldron. God, I love my purple rope caster and tearblast arrows. The thing did not stand a chance.

I did my first cauldron today easily my favourite part of the game so far. I loved the setting kind of like aliens crossed with the matrix. I wasn't expecting it and loved the change of game play and setting. I would have totally missed the errand mission if I didn't look it up, which is a shame as the cauldron is so different to everything else in the game

Hmm, apparently I went somewhere I wasn't supposed to, I got a message saying I was leaving the area and that I would be reset back to my last save if I kept going.

The stealth feels half-baked a lot of times. Like they had ideas of what they wanted to do with it and maybe didn't fully develop it because the bulk of combat ended up being better without stealth.

I never saw a use for diving underwater for stealth.

What a journey! I beat the game after 65 hours. Going in I thought it was a 30 hour adventure, hell I still left some quests on the table and unfinished business with Nil.

One of my favourite new IPs ever, I'll let it soak in before doing any serious review but I think they nailed so many aspects, some a little surprisingly like the narrative!

As a media blackout whore I went back and watched the E3 reveals since I didn't really watch them the first time. It sure came along way, so many little changes. I think graphically it surpassed those early stuff, it just looks way cleaner and more cohesive. Even animations and voice overs are better.

You can see in the 2015 trailer I don't think they had scanning enemies at that point, Aloy fights a Thunderjaw without scanning. I actually dont mind that, wouldn't mind the sequel having the weak points a little more visible to the player and just relying on player instinct instead. I like how the TJ was more properly introduced in the demo, they played it pretty nonchalant in the actual game. I'd like to see the sequel make a bigger deal out of the bigger enemies. Proper intros, boss fight settings, etc.

2016 they had multi hud based scanning ability. The quest in the demo also occurred naturally by Aloy helping that civilian. That was kinda cool. Corrupters were less complex, only the one thing on its head instead of two weapons. Shellwalkers were pretty much the same. Lots of little details were different but overall closer to the final game. It was pretty cool seeing those changes now. Since I always avoid media its become like a staple for me to go back and watch these live demos. Truthfully live staged demos are a guilty pleasure, I love seeing games being played "properly" and at their best. Makes me happy for some reason lol.

Back to the actual game, I missed a few side quests so I think I missed out on some ending cutscenes? I may go back and replay where they leave you off, I really wanted to see the Nil stuff to completion, he was one of the more intriguing characters in the game. Might just youtube it.

On to Zelda!....I guess...:(

Zelda and horizon really complements each other well, zelda has virtually no story but a very gamey world, horizon has the best story ever but the world itself is not as explorable and interactive.

Weird. There's a bunch of really nice, lore important holo vids in the
Zero Dawn
Project Facility that aren't part of the Hologram Datapoint collection. Seems like an bad design choice.

Just got my Platinum at exactly 40:00:00 with 89.81% completion. That timing gave me a good laugh!

All in all, I can't remember any (exclusive) game in recent history that comes somewhat close to this. Horizon surely has a rightful place in PlayStation's top 3 games of all time.

Just got done with the part where
Sylens rescues me from helis or whatever he is called, should go rescue the Nora now and I'm guessing it's the last main quest :( , don't want it to end so I'm just gonna do the Vanesha quest before that. Also riding the mount after sylens leaves with the epic music was a red dead arriving in mexico/ TW3 arriving in Skellige moment.

Quick Q

I heard there is at least one side mission you should definitely do before the clearly advertised point of no return (
About to start Deep Secrets of the Earth, Sylens warned me to complete outstanding errands
).

I've heard that you will get locked into this mission for a little while, but will still be able to complete other stuff once you'e done with it. But I also remember someone at some point saying there's something that's a lot better to do beforehand ...

There are
two
points of no return. First one
is the one you mentioned, which is more of a pseudo point of new return because you'll be doing the mission for a while and you can't leave during it. Once you finish it, you can do any side quest you still need, you're not locked out of any of them. The last (and actual) point of no return is at the end of the Looming Shadow quest, before the final mission starts.

There talking about one specific side quest where you go and meet the woman who was talking to you in the palace. I would highly recommend doing that quest and the other side quest available at Sunfall before doing proceeding

Beat the game this morning. Posted some thoughts in the spoiler thread. Think it took me about 65 hours, forgot to check the completion percentage. Still have more to do though, couldn't quit the main story quests once I got going on them.

I hope they add a NG+, I really wanna play again but don't wish to grind out the carrying capacity stuff again. Also I'm sure they will change some more stuff with patches so I wanna come back when maybe some stuff improves. Oh yeah, hope it's full of content like the Witcher's were.

Can't wait to see what they do with the DLC. Hope it features Aloy. Don't care if it's stand alone like the Witcher or continues the story. Also hope it cleans up some of the minor flaws the game has.

I love ripping off the disc launchers and using them against him. Shooting with those weapons makes me feel like a total badass!

I realllly wanted to get that Stalker outfit, I just couldn't get a Stalker heart. Honestly unless I'm going crazy, I never had access to buy it until late game? I never knew it existed until I was about to start the last mission and randomly checked the merchant in Meridian.

This lead to an awesome sequence of me hunting stalkers and lancers when I was OP, it was neat to see the progression of my weapons now that I'm like one shotting them.

Also I only fought ONE Behemoth in the game! During the main quest. I need to go back and fight more they are a blast.

After a few more hours with the Rattler I can happily say it's the most underrated weapon in the whole game.

With freeze and damage mods you can freeze something in a split second, and then switch to normal bolts for massive DPS.

Sometimes I shoot a few tearblast arrows to help knock armour off before going to town.

Against charging enemies like Tramplers it makes no sense to be shooting arrows when the enemy is right in front of you and presents such a huge target.

The only downside is that it chews through ridge wood like nothing else, but that's easy to buy from merchants.

I'm listening to the soundtrack right now. It's really good. Funny I never noticed it while I was playing.

It kind of sounds like Deus Ex mixed with an orchestra with a hint of tribal-like music at times.

Just finished the game.

What a
fucking amazing ending. I was hoping to stumble upon Elisabet's remains somehow, and it was such a bittersweet thing to finally come upon them in the last few minutes, sitting on a bench surrounded by flowers. Seeing Aloy caress her face as a voice log plays of Elisabet speaking about her hypothetical child to GAIA just hit me right in the feels. This fucking game, guys.

... I feel so empty now lol. But damn great job on this game, Guerilla! I admit even I had my own reservations, but every single preview of the game had been so positive that I couldn't help but be hyped. It was fucking worth it.

Where can you get more power cells? Only have 1. 15 hours in. Also, please tell me more side quests open up? Same thing with Cauldrons, only found 1, is there more? The map is somewhat filled out. I haven't got to Meridian yet in the story.

Bought this last night with that 20% off psn offer and damn..... Besides being gorgeous the game plays and controls so damn smooth. Its a joy to play. Just got inside the mountain and I've enjoyed everything so far. Feels bad knowing I slept on this game thinking Id be busy with Mass Defect 😂

Quick question: do the dialogue choices matter?

This game... Oh my God...

Just finished the main story, 100%, Platinum.... Probably the best open-world RPG I've played. The only other game I completed so thoroughly was Assassin's Creed 2.

I don't know what to say, from gorgeous graphics, to tense fights (on very hard), to an amazing protagonist and a coherent strong narrative this is truly a singular achievement. I did not expect this at all coming from Killzone studio. I expected it to be good, but not THIS good. Aloy is wonderful, truly a next Playstation mascot. Her story is not only full of twists but also emotional and has a very strong pognant ending. Loved every second of it.

However, one thing that I appreciate most is how this game respects the player and especially the time you spend playing it. This is not a 300+ hours open world and that's GREAT. It never drags on, it never gets dull and repetitive. More precisely: there are not a lot of collectibles and they are all marked on the map, there are no bullshit achievements which require you to play the game several times, the machines you fight gradually increase in difficulty and do not become repetitive, the world is just big enough to fit in all the quests and not empty space, the story doesn't dangle "sequel-bait" in front of you, and 100% completion doesn't mean hunting every text log (the only hidden collectible) or even get all the upgrades. All the sidequests were more or less meaningful , there are no "procedurally-generated" errands or Hinterlands bloat.

I do genuinely want to thank Guerilla for showing such restraint and respect to players. This is how you do collectibles and progression in an open-world game.
Do yourself a favour, find all the observer spots and read the story.
Enough with 80% completion BS because I didn't open all the chests or found all the hidden flags, it's not fun, it's not good gameplay.

Definitely GOTY for now, and I don't know what else can beat this. Next: Nier Automata.

I completed the game earlier today. I've now just unlocked the final trophy and earned my Platinum.

Time to overload the Screenshot Thread (I spent 50% of my time in photo mode) and find the spoiler thread (if there is one?).

What a game. Absolutely loved it. The world and the story really grabbed me, I'm sad to leave :(

Does his best thinking in the flying car
So, when I beat this final mission, will I have a chance to get collectibles and do hunting missions and shit later or should I do it all now?

You revert to right before the last mission, only with any XP or whatever you gained in the process. Nothing is missable afaik

Quick question: do the dialogue choices matter?

There are some very minor changes to how some events play out (with one or two exceptions, but those will be self-evident), but nothing that changes the story. They're mostly there so you can play out your version of Aloy, but they're all conceived in a way that's character appropriate, IMO.
