I apologize PC brothers: Pc games is much cheaper than consoles in the long run.

As long as you're not chasing Nvidia's latest and greatest every year, yeah. It's cheaper.
How do you gloat if you don't have the newest rtx card? Rumor has it that each year you don't upgrade your graphic card, your master peen shrinks. Two years in and you have nothing left UNLESS you have a voodoo 5 card in sli mode which gives you the legendary Chrono Cross of shafts.

After the super bundles and flash sales ended, I don't buy as much. Still overall good sales. Bundles on Fanatical are still pretty solid. When I get the urge to buy a game I usually check isthereanydeal or straight to GreenManGaming. Sometimes the price difference from Steam is only like $5 and sometimes it's major

If you focus on buying games only when they go on sale you'll find the prices are pretty much the same across both PC and console and go on sale, if not at the same time, with the same frequency. To pull one game from your list, Doom Eternal is the same price on Steam and PS Store right now, $10.

If you're uswed to buying new console games full price, then buying old ass PC games during a Steam sale will look like a bargain, but they're not comparable tendencies at all.
I paid 67¢ for doon eternal. I got it less than a buck

Nah keysitrs are much cheaper.

When you have a lot of time to game, the savings per hour of gaming are huge on PC. There are just so many Indy games that will never come to console. Then you have Mods that can give you hundreds of hours of gaming for $0. The Convergence mod for Dark Souls 3 for example. There is no comparison for me.

Buying and keeping? Yes, absolutely. But reselling/renting is still a thing with consoles. Gotta factor in the returns on that as well. If you only want digital then PC is cheaper, no doubt.

This is why I'm purely physical on playstation. The cost to entry for their games.

To the op. I think once people do the initial jump like you have, they would see the benefits.

People are stubborn though and can't see a deal due to their brand loyalty.

PC is the best place to play. It's just a fact. You can design the system to exactly what you are looking for. Lose all the expensive walled garden shit and 99 percent of the time have the best experience.

So, I thought this was actually the case as well, but when I look at Monster Hunter Wilds on Steam it will cost me €69, while I could probably pick up a physical PS5 copy for €59…
You can get a Steam key for 59€ on PC as well.

I love Steam, but when you game on PC you don't have to buy a game from Steam directly, you can buy games from multiple store fronts. There is ALWAYS a sale somewhere... and then there are grey market key sellers on top of that where you can get Wilds for 45€. You do lose Steam's impeccable refund policy, though.

You still have the benefit of having a physical copy on console, though.

It depends entirely on your individual situation wheather PC gaming or console gaming is cheaper. That being said, I think among the "enthusiasts" here on this forum, generally PC gaming can be assumed to be cheaper in most cases as we tend to buy a lot of games. The more games you buy and the less frequently you upgrade your hardware, the "cheaper" PC gaming becomes in relation to console gaming (again, making a lot of assumptions here: you subscribe to PS plus for example, or buy games day one for 80 a pop etc.). The open platform aspect is and remains the true reason people should consider PC gaming. Not because it might come cheaper.

I dont play a ton of PC games, but I got a new laptop a year or so ago with a 4070. My older laptop was ok and the keyboard was failing, and I'd get weird BIOS blue screen errors once in a while so I decided just to buy a new one. Gave my old one to my niece.

4070 is overkill for the small amounts of gaming I do on PC, but you also got to remember that a new PC/laptop is also dual function. Anything I do not gaming related is much faster than old laptop too.

Cheap as chips in the UK. Really competitive pre-builds always £200+ off at Costco available for £599-£699.

Steam Deck from as low as £260.

The value proposition isn’t there for consoles anymore (Switch aside).

Now let's calculate with new games bought on release only. My PC cost me 5k+, I mostly buy new games.

PS5 is 500bux, controller 70bux (x4 for estimate) so that's almost 800 bux. I will have to buy like 50 games, which I never do, at full price to match my PC rig (and I didn't count any cost for games purchase for PC).

If we talk about "master race" we talk about top end PCs which "in the long run" (lifetime of console) are still more expensive than consoles.

I'll fix the title for you.

I apologize PC brothers: it's cheaper to build an extensive backlog of games I'll never play on PC, than it is on consoles.

I end up spending more money with PC even hardware aside. I've been able to get deals on new games through deals on EGS or GMG or elsewhere, but what I save there on new releases I spend on PC only titles like Satisfactory, Lethal Company, The Classrooms, Pummel Party, etc.

I buy so many co-op $5-30 smaller dev games to play with my kids or with my friends where as most my friends who play console almost only play AAA $70 titles. I buy those too, but I buy so much beyond that.

Enjoy the fun, OP.
PC has many advatages over consoles, consoles have some too tho, and its ok.
As long as every1 makes concious informed choice its all good :)

For ppl claiming pc route is super expensive- they are right too, pc is all about choice, if u choose gaming on the bleeding edge u can spend 3k+ usd on hardware every 3years on top of spending similar amount on software, but its called bleeding edge after all- to stay on that edge u gotta bleed money :messenger_heart:

I mean, if you going digital. I suppose. But if you’re into physical. Then no. Also u don’t need to sub to anything with ps and Xbox and still can buy the game. Unless it a mp game and all the game you just show was pretty much all single player. So why you subbing for anything? But now you gonna be like a master race and just complain how everything not running as good as it should and blah blah blah

I will say, for someone who does both, 30fps sux on pc. It has to be cause of the mouse and monitor or something. Cause on my console and tv, 30fps doesn’t really bother me as much.

It's basic math, you pay more at the beginning but games cost half the price or close to that you don't have to pay for plus to play online and discounts and gifts are much much better than what you find on console.

Pc is only more costly if you change gpu\build every 2 years or less but almost no one does that (probably a lot of people on gaf but this is an hardcore forum).

Or you can buy a key for 45 dollars, mine was 40 because on pc usually the sooner you preorder, the less you pay.

Why 4 controllers though?
I’ve not paid 70 for a console game often too. Physical is usually a bit cheaper and the of course even more so after a but of time. Like I’ve just for Callisto for 10$ looking like brand new because ps4 and ps5 discs only spin during setup

Of course. And that’s exactly the reason we can’t allow physical to die on consoles.
Physical performs exactly this task on consoles as key sites on pc.

That's not true at all. There are literal subreddits that track historical lows for games across different platforms. The difference between steam and other stores like xbl and psn is like sub 5% when tracking historical lows. You can keep telling yourself that to feel better about wasting money.

Maybe it's not always the case, but it is definitely the case.

Wilds is 80 euros on ps5 and you can find a key now for 45 dollars, i payed less than that so almost half.

A couple of years ago was much better because keys were even cheaper (i payed 18 euros for witcher 3 key) but keys are always gonna be more cheap than buying on a physical shop if you want to play the game at day one.

I can probably get 10 euros less if i buy from amazon or ebay but you can forget to play the game at day one most of the times, with keys you don't have this problem, you always pay less and play when the game unlock for everyone at day one.

But good luck trying to convince people that have both a console and a pc like me that you pay the same money on console for games at day one, you are gonna need it dude :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

Of fucking course if you wait to get a special discount you can have similar prices, but hardcore gamers like to play their games at day one, not to wait for months until the price is similar to a pc key, to get a similar price you are renouncing to something, it is not the same thing, but keep dreaming dude, maybe one day you are gonna be able to play something at day one and pay as much as i pay for a steam key, one day...

Lol at the salty people.

Enjoy OP. Be aware of key sites once you are interested in getting a game day 1 for cheap. Can't remember the last time I paid full price.

I paid good money for this Dynex!
This is silly. The upfront cost, if you want to do it right, is massively more than any console, and it's not like PSN and Xbox don't constantly put games on sale at a steep discount. I don't think there's much of a price differential between PC and console depending on what your focus is... certainly not enough of one that I'd call PC gaming "much cheaper" than consoles.

Just have your PC and play games on it and enjoy it and stop worrying about asinine comparisons.

Apparently since they introduced the tier system. I looked online and cannot find cards either. Some places like cdkeys still has them, but they’re more expensive than the plans on the website.

It depends a lot on how you plan to make your purchases. If you use the services of eBay, Local stores (Trade-In, etc.), then consoles are much cheaper. Especially if you are ready to spend your time on it. If you just go to the digital store Steam or the same PSN, at the start the PC wins in prices, but if you wait for the sale, then in principle it turns out the same. Too many factors, because if you go deeper, then the country also matters, the store as a whole, many have discounts for regular customers, cumulative points, etc, also we do not take into account the moments when large chain stores need to update the goods and they reduce the discs to ridiculous prices in order to sell them quickly. Too many factors.

If you are too lazy to tear your butt off the couch and all you can do is go to the digital store PSN, Steam, etc. - then in most cases the PC will be cheaper for you. If you are a keen enthusiast and collector and you have time, in 90% of cases you will find a cheaper option =)

Steam used to have the most epic sales but as of late they've so shit. Ghost of Tsushima £39.99 - really?

But yes the upfront cost of PC gaming is high.

I've just spent £1500 upgrading to a 9800X3D based PC. And that is despite using my old graphics card (RTX 4080), case and power supply! If this was a new build this would set me apart £2500.

Funny, I have both all consoles except switch, pc, and steam deck. I don't live in europe but I have heard physical is cheaper than digital. As for TW3 complete for less than $20 bucks on PSN and XBL like a year ago or so. As for North America, it's definitely not the case at all. I don't buy from 3rd party sites because I want all my games to be backed by steam's refund policy. After purchasing some stinkers in the past, I retired from 3rd party sites.

Pc digital vs console physical? Not a chance, digital on pc if you want to play day one is always gonna be much cheaper than console, full stop.

I get that you want steam refund, but i watch a lot of footage before buying a game, so usually the type of problems that bothers me usually come out way after the 2 hours you have before asking for a refund, many games don't even really start after 2 hours (and i play a shitload of big games and open worlds.)

Some PC dudes are delusional. I was thinking of upgrading from a 7800x3d to a 9800x3d. Price is basically $700 after taxes over here for the 9800x3d. PC gaming is not cheaper than console. To get a machine that is as powerful as a console costs notably more than a console. The PS5 digital is on sale here for $479. A 7600xt which is slightly worse than the ps5's GPU is $400 after taxes. Even a ps5 level pc will cost almost 2x more and that's if you get rubbish parts. If you get actual parts that'll last you a while, the price sky rockets.

Also it's remarkable how quickly pc hardware falls off. With 2 years, the performance starts to fall off big time. My 3080 10gb purchased at covid inflation prices still haunts me to this day. I had to end up upgrading to 4080 super just because of ram constraints. Never again will I buy a ram/bandwidth starved card. I owned a 4090 for a bit and I ended up selling it. I couldn't justify paying that much money just to turn down settings. Ridiculous.

PC = cheap ass games, overpriced hardware, horrible UI, necessity to mod everything to reach half the graphics or gameplay quality you see on youtube vids.
Consoles = relatively cheap hardware, expensive games, great UI, what you see is what you get, everything you spend goes into Phil Spencer and Hermen Hulst 401(k)

that's what we call being stuck between a cock and a hard dick

Lets just say I don't believe you. All I know is that neither CD Keys nor Kinguin had those deals at launch.

Pc digital is not noticeable cheaper than console digital where I live, talk less of console physical where you can find used copies. Like I said, I don't use 3rd party key sites.

That's fair, however a refund policy is better than no refund policy. Like I bought Balatro recently because the clowns on here where hyping the game up. Played it, decided it wasn't for me, refunded. If I bought it on PSN or XBL or a 3rd party key site, I'd be stuck with a game I don't want. Developers could release demos but, on the balance of things, it'll actually hurt your sales more times than it would help.

It depends more on knowledge of the market, acquaintance with sellers, your bonus points, etc. For example, when metaphor refantazio started at $70, my price with my discounts and taking into account my acquaintance with the seller and the fact that I am a regular customer, in my local store for PS5 was $59.99. :messenger_grinning_smiling:

Dude in 2015 the prices of key were super low, maybe you don't remember well, i was as surprised as you because i was coming from a long period of console only playing but prices of key on pc were absurd, back in the days i was still buying from suspect sites like kinguin or g2a that had the lowest prices, nowadays i only buy from cdkeys, instant gaming and eneba, they have slightly higher prices but they are more secure.

I'm not sure how digital on console at launch is similar to pc digital where you live unless sony and M make super offers just for your zone.

Digital games on console at launch are full price, so 79.99 and key are always around 35 to 45 range, really not sure how you have it different but ok...

Or i can just buy a steam key at a sensibly lower price than 60 dollars and with none of the fuss...

Even with all the knowledge, bonus and acquaintance, you are not gonna find games on console that you can play at day one in a range between 35-45 euros\dollars.

I would love if that was the case because i have 2 console at home (3 if you count the xone i use as doorblocker) but it is not, especially on switch.

Keys to games through third-party sites yes, but this is rather the fault of Steam itself and the lack of control over the distribution of keys, this is a very dark market and the origin of these keys is very foggy. If we talk about prices in the stores themselves directly, then options can always be found. Switch yes there are certain problems, but you can find options although it is difficult and the discounts will not be very big, from the advantages of Nintendo games very well retain their price and practically do not get cheaper, and often even become more expensive. :messenger_grinning:
