Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Launched to “Very Positive” reviews on Steam

The most recent Indiana Jones movie lost 143M. Most people just don't care about the IP anymore.

But for people who do care (like me): it's pretty good so far.
The reason this one is good is because it's not made by Lucasfilm.

It actually feels much closer to something like Last Crusade. It's not as serious as Raiders and it has more elaborate action than that film. I like that the dialogue is lighthearted and silly which suits the comical nature of the gameplay and ragdolls.

If it were to be only on steam, no, not a lot. But again, I bought the game on steam and still wondering why the fuck I did that with gamepass being so cheap. Anyway, I stopped making financial sense a while ago.

$12 vs $70. Would not be surprised if MS sees their internal GP numbers jump fairly high for December.

True, the last 2 movies haven't drawn in many new fans and the older fans like myself likely cling to the original 3 films.

That said, there is an opportunity to market him to a new audience where he can live on in media outside the films, namely video games, but Microsoft isn't the company to do that. As long as the quality of games are good( and this game by various accounts seems to be), there's no reason it couldn't catch on in the same way an unknown IP like Uncharted did back in 2007 and appeal to the gen Z gamer. The nature of the character lends itself perfectly to a video game series, if it has the right people handling the IP.

if you go to key sites like eneba, it doesn't even make financial sense to pay full price for gamepass or to keep the active sub. I got one month for this game for $7.

Path Tracing looks insane on this game . The normal graphics look fucking terrible at times.

Performance with path tracing though is....yeah

40fps DLSS Quality Sheesh
40fps with quality? Have you tried balanced or performance? What is your gpu and resolution settings?

After the success of Spider-man, MS must have asked ( by asked I mean begged) Disney for some of their IP. Disney finally gave them a bone (Indiana Jones).
How have you not been banned from this thread yet? Beggars belief. Just in here antagonizing others with drive by posts that add absolutely nothing to discussion.

And as we can see, the fandom are struggling to cope with this transition.

Absolute chaos.
Why are you quoting yourself? lol why would you compare tears of the kingdom to starfield? Completely different games.

Absolute chaos is correct.

As the worlds biggest OG Uncharted fan, I really hope this happens. I'm having a blast so far and I only beat the first level. I explored it for at least 6 hours.

I'm not sure I've seen another game with such intricate levels such as these. Not only from a pathing standpoint but just like debris, textures and objects scattered around. It reminds me of Dishonored 2 or something.

Can't read too much into this, but still impressive that it's 3rd in bestsellers on Steam:

Had a quick play tonight on XCloud. Definitely prefer playing on Geforce Now as streaming on the XSX still has a way to go quality-wise. Couldn't be bothered to download the thing, so streaming only for me at the moment.

Can you read or not?

Games, regardless of genre, are all competing for the same thing - our time.

If someone is deciding wether or not to play something they will also consider what else they have the option to play. This is happening right now with Indiana Jones' release on PC, most people are simply opting to play other games instead.

Marvel Rivals and Infinity Nikki are juggernauts now?

I mean, they are, with both games surpassing 10 million downloads at launch. But normally F2P have not historically had an impact on traditional game releases

I meant path of exile but when you have multiple games that draw out the air from the room hard to compete (i am not saying it would do like startfield levels but maybe it could get closer to veilguard).

Honestly, I feel like there's an opportunity to have a similar relationship between Xbox and Indy as Sony does with Spider-man, where they're the game custodian of the franchise. I really don't think the fact that it's an 80s IP matters much if it's just a damn good game and it's marketed correctly. No reason it can't serve the Tomb Raider/Uncharted crowd as it's own thing.

In the interim, I hope they have DLC planned. Just as they started this game reenacting the start of Raiders, give us some other well-known playable moments from the movies, the horse chase for the Ark in Raiders, the beginning scene in Temple and the cart chase, young Indy from the beginning of the last Crusade, the boat chase, rescuing his father from the German castle, the 3 challenges for the Grail, etc etc.

I know right.!? Like I said I hope that happens. This game just proves how well the formula of serial stories work. Indy can go anywhere, do anything and the stories (at least in the original 3) don't end on cliff hangers, so this IP will live on forever.

Retiring Nathan Drake was such a poor move because he is essentially the same character. The player knows Nate will never actually die canonically. So there are countless stories that could be told about him. I hope they soft reboot at some point with some prequel stories, similar to Golden Abyss and Eye of Indra.

It seems to me that there are 2 factors:
1) Gamepass killed the sales of the game and this was expected from the very beginning, there is no point in buying this game on steam from a financial point of view.
2) Honestly, I don't know who the target audience of this game is. I'm 40+ and I don't care about Indiana Jones anymore (especially after the latest films), that's why I skip this game. If I want to remember the past, I'll just watch the films. I'm more than sure that if you poll teenagers aged 14-18 now, most won't even be able to say who this is.
Yeah, both points are probably the main factors. But whether or not Microsoft are happy with this result is still to be seen.
Also, if the latest film had been a huge success, this game would have benefited from it, kinda like how Spider-Man PS4 was riding the Spider-Man Homecoming/Avengers Infinity War hype, that had a positive impact on the game sales for sure.

It wont happen. Like Phil said sub services and licensing IP's like Indy just don't mix. When you're licensing an IP you need to get as many sales as possible and GP is always going to hurt those sales.

If anything Machine games should just take what they learned here and create their own new IP to continue doing the same thing. Doesn't have to be Indy just make someone new.

I don't know what their plan is. Do they hope people forget to unsubscribe? Like, I pay 12 EUR now, finish the game, cancel the subscription, maybe play some other games within the time frame and then move on. And they only get 12 bucks for a game with production values like that!

This doesn't soud like sustainable business to me.

Will this eat my 3080 10gb for breakfast ?
No it won't. I have the same card. Set texture pool size to medium (was the default setting for me) for 3440x1440 and you're good to go; you can set it to "high" if you play in lower res. Everything else on high or ultra, 70-90fps with DLAA.

Played about an hour or two. Really intrigued by it. I'm glad it's not third person, I think it separates itself from the Uncharted/Tomb Raider games because of it. It feels sort of like a Thief game in a sense. Clobbering people over the head with clubs, sneaking around. We'll see if the stealth stands out as good or not but yea, I think it's fitting for the series. Story seems interesting too!

The stealth and ai are terrible tbh. You ca fix it somewhat by tweaking settings bit if you just set the game to hard and leave it, it's laughably bad.

I actually find it funny because it's like the devs are saying dumb nazis with the ai it's that bad. You can improve it with some extra tweaks though lol

Presumably why they moved it to PS5 quickly. They know where the bulk of sales will be, at least on the console side.

I'll admit I did laugh out loud at times in my limited time with it. And if you watch this it has a funny as fuck bit in it. As GHG GHG rightly says - our time is always being wanted by other games too.

Anyone expecting uncharted is setting themselves up for failure right away.

Anyone oblivious to game pass nerfing steam ccu is also clueless and reaching for the sake of piling on.

It’s no Fate of Atlantis but it’s an inspired and respectful take on a beloved character.

Overall a surprisingly win.

Played a couple of hours, done with the first level - first and foremost it's a stealth game, anyone who tells you otherwise is lying to your or is shite at the game and is running around like a moron with their pants down. It's immersive-sim lite.

I'm playing on the hardest possible difficulty, and while the AI isn't going to win any awards, it's servicible for this type of game (there needs to be a reasonable margin of error afforded to the player, if not it would be obnoxious). Thumbs up for there not being any pathetic xray vision and the enemy awareness indicator being turned off, the first level genuinely felt like a nice old school stealth game in the vein of Thief at times.

The PC port is excellent. This cannot be understated. There's a great number of options available, and most importantly there is arbitrary resolution support out of the box (something that is becoming more and more rare these days for some reason). That means I'm able to play using a cinema resolution of 3840x1920 (FOV 95) with everything including path tracing maxed out on my 4080 system using DLSS balanced and I'm still getting good framerates (50-60fps) for what is on display.

The game is stunning with everything cranked, genuine photorealism on display at times. Whatever they've done to the iDtech engine to incorporate RT and path tracing, they've done a great job and it bodes really well for the next Doom game.

The sound design is excellent and that's what basically allows the stealth to work well with the lack of visual cues. Makes full use of all 9 channels in my sound system which is nice to see.

Overall I'm very impressed, far more than I expected I would be. It's a very well put together game and from what I've played so far it's doing justice to the IP. I'm looking forward to playing more and I can easily see myself finishing this while also going for most of the achievements because I'm finding it enjoyable to play. It's a shame that more people aren't playing it but that's on Xbox and their decisions in terms of the release schedule and (lack of) marketing. Hopefully they don't end up Tangoing the team that put this together but considering the boneheads calling the shots over there I wouldn't be surprised.

I'm not helping them though, negative review on Steam it is, it's tradition for Xbox releases on the platform.

Not really.

Maybe.

Yea this was honestly my concern as I get deeper into the game, but I was withholding judgment until I played more.

Didnt vets from this dev work on Chronicles of Riddick?!

Anyone who has a basic level of competence in immersive-sim/stealth games should be playing this on very hard difficulty. Honestly, there's no reason not to, you'll be familiar with the principles of play here in no time.

Does this support Xbox achievements on Steam?

No.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

If you've been paying attention, that's not something I do. I've been full of praise for stuff like the Forza horizon series, ori, gears tactics, the first flight sim (I'm yet to purchase the latest one because of the launch issues, but that's on my list for early next year) and hi-fi rush.

The biggest issue I have is that they don't release games of this standard nearly often enough given their resources. I'm not going to praise/defend the typical half baked shit they tend to serve up. People should demand better (which will result in them getting better), it's a shame that collectively you fail to realise that.

Also, I don't know what the fuck some of these reviewers were doing or were talking about (well actually, I do because they are incompetent), but you can obtain a gun and plenty of ammo in the very first level if you explore enough and find a key.
