Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Launched to “Very Positive” reviews on Steam

If a game as good as this doesnt sell, or drive serious numbers on gamepass and they are Pirating like you are saying. Then fuck all those people and anyone who doesn't have good taste in games, because this is one of the most original IP games we have had in recent memory.

I am hoping that the positive word of mouth drives a considerable amount of sales for this great game.
I'm sure it'll get some healthy sales on PS next year where GPU isnt an option. Xbox cant have it both ways - they push GP to the point where by a large chunk of their audience dont expect to pay for individual games anymore. So dont be surprised when it doesn't sell well. Having it constrained during release weekend too. By forcing paid early access, limiting its main stream release to a Monday is an interesting strategy too.

We’ve seen time and time again that big releases don’t equate to subscriber growth for Game Pass. They have a user base of 25-30m and it remains consistent regardless.

Why downplay? Its last reported numbers where 34 million and it’s gone up constantly each year just not at the adaption they hoped for it’s never been constant.

We haven’t had the new numbers since Stalker, CoD, Indy, FlightSim.

I’m expecting next reported numbers to be nearing 40 million.

If true. I assume any growth is primarily PC side? As consoles certainly aren't flying off the shelves.

Yeah, I'm not someone who cares about sales for my enjoyment of a game. I just think this game deserves success. So, hopefully whatever way it works I hope it makes enough money to be seen as a success by the Studio and Xbox. Its a really, really good game to me.

Because I’m not naive and when they rolled 12m Gold users in to Game Pass Core I don’t equate those to proper ‘Game Pass’ users.

Phil Spencer under oath, confidentially, confirmed that numbers are stagnant and had been for a long time. The only reason we know that is that Microsoft’s own lawyer accidentally uploaded it online.

Game sounds good. Just a shame nobody cares about this IP anymore thanks to Disney.

I expect it will underperform on PS5 as well. Will probably sell a little bit better than Hi-Fi Rush did.

Which is why MS “strategy” for marketing and release is asinine. They should have had EA middle of last week with the game going in full sale Friday.

Overall marketing efforts have been super lackluster. It’s like MS is trying to kill this game.

Oh, you should. Because with sales trajectory this abysmal this will be the only Indy game of this caliber from MachineGames, if ever.

I'm just going to enjoy the incredible game that has launched today and I'm happy it exists. If this is all we get then I can't complain because at least Indy has been given the love and care the franchise deserves from a studio that clearly cares.

Now, now. Let's at least wait until it comes out on PS5!

Edit: admittedly, it was probably a bad move to delay the game away from launch on the platform with the most sales potential. By the time it comes out, it'll be yesterday's game and will miss out on hype/impulse/holiday sales it could have had.

The 34 million figure was a last ditch effort to save face and I don't think they will disclose it ever again. Last known number before that was 25 million but they merged Live Gold that had 11.7 million that year so they lost +2 million subscribers.

Had the £1 for 2 weeks Game Pass PC offer in my inbox last week. Might have taken it for this if I still bothered with PC gaming, but then again PoEII and infinity Nikki (what a combo! One's a brutal masterpiece testing the limits of my skills and the other's a pretty good modern reimagining of Diablo 2).

I’m one of the weirdos that bought it on steam 🤷‍♂️

Doesn’t make sense with cost of gamepass and the length of the game be so be it, it’s an immersive sim so I’ll likely play it often as it’s my favourite genre

Which again comes to this, if players didn’t bite on Indians jones on gamepass either, why in the hell are immersive sims always so adored and reviewing well, but sales are never there?

Game does look like a good time but Path of Exile 2 had all my attention right now, so I’d probably pick it up next year. The early access and the full launch on Sunday is dumb as hell though, amazing way to kill any momentum right off the bat.

Path Tracing looks insane on this game . The normal graphics look fucking terrible at times.

The problem with Indiana Jones is that the IP hasn't been hot for a long time as the last two movies had 15+ year gap each after The Last Cruser, with the last one been released last year to mediocre reception and becoming a major box office bomb. Then you have The Great Circle stealth genre being too niche to do hot figures with only Metal Gear and Hitman as the big active hits.

So what caused this?

The modern audience? Game Pass? The old IP (dead thanks to the last movie by Woke Disney)? The gameplay?
It seems to me that there are 2 factors:
1) Gamepass killed the sales of the game and this was expected from the very beginning, there is no point in buying this game on steam from a financial point of view.
2) Honestly, I don't know who the target audience of this game is. I'm 40+ and I don't care about Indiana Jones anymore (especially after the latest films), that's why I skip this game. If I want to remember the past, I'll just watch the films. I'm more than sure that if you poll teenagers aged 14-18 now, most won't even be able to say who this is.

First, launches on a sunday night, for steam CCU I would wait a bit for a clearer picture. I'm thinking a bit of downwind with other games, word of mouth and a couple of friday night peaks should boost this, but no, it won't ever reach the GAAS monsters.

Second, gamepass. I bought the game yesterday on Steam and I'm still not entirely sure why I spent $90 Canadian on it when I could have spent $14 on gamepass. Not really rational. I'm sure a ton of peoples would gamepass it.

For IP I don't know. Too young to know Indiana Jones maybe?

Anyway, don't care, I'm enjoying it, I'll let $3T corporation pound on the calculator with the data we don't have on gamepass to see if it's a success.

I could play this for "free" on Gamepass right now but even that does no lure me in. It just seems so generic and uninteresting to me.

I have to say that my love for Indy never went beyond absolutely loving Fate of Atlantis and I am not a fan of these interactive movie style third-person games so I am just not the audience for this.

Hitman is not really a good comparison as the game kinda took on a service-y angle with its latest releases.

I honestly think Metal Gear Solid Delta will have largely similar numbers. PC gamers generally tend to flock to service-type games more than other gamers imo.

$70 for 12 hours?
Game is 12 hours for mainline only, with sidequests it gets to 25-30 hours.

It's not a stealth game. That's BS FUD being spread by console warriors too stupid to realize their favorite plastic box will have the best version of the game in the Spring.

The numbers on PC are typically the same as what you'd find on other platforms.

The only exception being that there's more breadth of genres on the platform due to the variety of input devices available.

No need to be upset. There's a reason why they decided to announce the PS5 version as early as they did, they would have been able to see the pre-order numbers and interest metrics.

12 hours wouldn't be bad if it had good replay value. Indy looks to me like its a one and done interactive movie.
Its 12 hours long? Ive spent 12 hours and I'm in the second area.

This is not a third person interactive movie...It's more a first person adventure game.

I'm buying the PS5 CE if they offer it, if not I'm pre-ordering the $100 edition the second it's available on PSN. Fuck that console war bullshit. This is one of the best games of the generation and far too many people are being idiots over it because it's not on one console at the moment.

I've been waiting for the F2P option, but I keep hearing so many good things about PoE2 that I might just pull the plug.

The only reason I've been able not to as of now is because I have never been an avid player of PoE or Diablo.

I think that's a big exaggeration.

Maybe it's the recency bias or perhaps you're a bigger fan of the Indiana Jones IP than most, but it's not even the best game this year, or even this quarter, let alone the generation.

So that's the reason you think the player count numbers are as low as they are on Steam?

This conspiracy goes deep for some of you.

Metal Gear V had 90k concurrent players at launch on Steam.

the game is out for normies now, right? the peak ccu should steady increase until it's max number on the weekend.

we should also have a broader understanding of the reception of the game. naturally, the positive percentage should drop a bit too (mid to high 80s)

it also seems there is this feeling that MS didn't market this game as hard as they should've. Still, this game should easily surpass the peak numbers of previous Machine Games releases

i think around 30k would be good. below that would mean that the Game Pass effect is taking place and above that would also mean the Game Pass effect is taking place. 🥴

Game Pass isn't on Steam.

That's like trying to use Steam numbers to judge Diablo IV or Overwatch, when most of those players are on Bnet.

The only thing using Steam numbers for a Game Pass or Bnet game does is fuel confirmation bias.

Not this bullshit again.

Palworld, manor lords and stalker 2 all also launched on gamepass this year but yet still also managed to do very well on Steam. If Diablo 4 had launched day one on Steam it also would have done silly numbers.

What's different here and why?

Not many people who had access to both played the GP version of Palworld (other than to try it out), but bought the Steam version because the Steam version was several patches ahead of the GP version with more features. STALKER is a series that has a long history on Steam.

Anyways, enjoy your warring over Indy now. I'm done arguing over it. I'll enjoy you all gushing over it when the Pro version drops in a few months.
